GOD’S SUMMONS
If we are not able to witness concretely to the love of
Christ in our lives, then we are truly salt that has gone
tasteless. Our flavor and impact are lost. How difficult it
is to get them back again.
In the late 1940s the Christophers movement began
in the United States. The Christophers’
motto, “It is better to light one candle than
to curse the darkness,” attracted many
through the Christophers’ effective use of
the media, advertising, and the encouragement of its members to proclaim Christ in
the workplace.
Jesus calls us to be that candle and to
set ourselves in the most visible place. Jesus, who
brought eternal light to the world, tells us that we, too,
are the light of the world. Through our words and actions we must let our light shine in the sight of all so
that in seeing our good works, everyone may give
praise to God.

LUZ DEL MUNDO
Si no podemos dar testimonio concreto del amor de Cristo
en nuestras vidas, entonces, sin duda, somos sal que se ha
vuelto desabrida. Nuestro sabor y nuestra influencia se han
perdido. Qué difícil es recuperarlos de nuevo.
A fines de la década de 1940 el movimiento cristóforo
empezó en Estados Unidos. El lema de los
cristóforos: “Es mejor encender una vela que
maldecir la oscuridad”, atrajo a muchos a
través del uso eficaz de los medios de comunicación, los anuncios y la inspiración de sus
miembros para proclamar a Cristo en el lugar
de trabajo.
Jesús nos llama a ser esa vela y a ponerla
en el lugar más visible. Jesús, que trajo la vida eterna al
mundo, nos dice que nosotros también somos la luz del
mundo. Mediante nuestro mundo y nuestras acciones tenemos que dejar que nuestra luz brille ante todos para
que al ver nuestras buenas obras, todos puedan glorificar
a Dios.

host a dinner-dance in honor of Saint Valentine's day. This event will take place in Nicholson Hall, on Saturday 15 February beginning at
6:30 PM. There will be a $20 fee per person.
The evening will include:

 Beverages for sale (non-alcoholic)
 An Asado Argentino Dinner served at 7:30 PM
during which participants will be serenaded by a
roaming trio and a soloist singing love songs in
both English and Spanish
 Entertainment by professional Tango Dancers

Carmelite Seminaries Collection

The Carmelites serving in our parish and at Salpointe Catholic High School also serve in various ministries in 10 other
states of the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, El Salvador and Peru. To prepare
men for ministerial service, we have seminaries
in each of these locations. Our seminary program has four phases: Pre-novitiate (a phase
lasting from one to four years as our students
continue a discernment process while completing their philosophy studies and/or Bachelors degree); Novitiate (a year
and a day of living and learning our Carmelite charism, tradition and history); Theological studies (four years of graduate work in theology and pastoral formation) and Internship
(usually lasting 2 years) during which our students live in
one of our communities and serve in the school, parish or
retreat center ministry of that community. Our Province
funds all four levels of formation, and is currently doing this
for 25 seminarians. Each year, we ask those whom we serve
to contribute to the support of our seminaries. In parishes
this is done through a second collection. Next weekend we
will take up this annual collection in our parish. Thank you in
advance for sharing in our efforts to form Carmelites for the
future.
Los Carmelitas sirviendo en nuestra parroquia y en la Escuela Secundaria Católica también sirven en 10 otros estados de los Estados Unidos, y en Canadá, México, El Salvador y
Perú. Para preparar hombre para el servicio ministerial, tenemos seminarios en cada una de estas localidades. Nuestro programa del seminario se compone de cuatro etapas: Pre-noviciado (una fase que
dura de uno a cuatro años mientras nuestros estudiantes continúan el proceso de discernimiento hasta terminar
sus estudios de filosofía y/o su título universitario); Noviciado (un

Operation Hospitality
As a result of Veterans Administration and Salvation
Army program changes, we will no longer have the
privilege of providing meals, a safe place to rest, and
welcoming
companionship
for
homeless
guests during the first three weeks of each February.
We have enjoyed being part of Operation Hospitality for
many years, and it has provided a very personal and rewarding
way for us to put our Christian values into action. Let's be
thankful for the experience, cherish the memories, and keep
our hearts open for the opportunity to "Welcome the
Stranger".

A great big thank you to all who helped make our Super Bowl
Snack Sale a great success. Many helped by making delectable goodies and others helped by purchasing these
yummy items. Thanks,
also to “Cowboy Kettle God’s Heroes Support St. Cyril’s
Corn” for their participation and sharing a percentage of their profits with St. Cyril.
Through everyone’s efforts we were able to raise $438.00
which will benefit St. Cyril Parish.
Marian Plaza Nearing Completion: Thank you to all
who have contributed to our Marian Plaza by sponsoring the
shrine, a portion of the back wall, a bench, one of
the flower bed seats and the many pavers (bricks).
Many parishioners and visitors have commented on
what a beautiful space it is.
The final phase is the engraving of the various
items which is in process. We still have items available for sponsorship: flower bed seats ($1,000), pavers (8 x 8
special placement at $250 or general placement at $200 and 4
x 8 at $100). Once the current engraving is finished, the cost
for these items will go up so, don’t delay in sponsoring one of
the items at this price. To be a sponsor, contact Mary Ann at
the parish office.

Lent begins 5 March
This Lent, we will again offer the Lenten
program Living the Eucharist developed
by the Paulist Fathers. Weekly small
group sessions will be offered on various
days and times in English and in Spanish
for adults, teens and families. All parishioners will have the opportunity to learn more about this central sacrament of our faith, to share their faith experiences and
to pray together on the journey through Lent. Sign-up sheets

La Cuaresma empezará 5 de marzo
En esta Cuaresma, volveremos a ofrecer el programa Viviendo la Eucaristía (Living the Eucharist) desarrollado por los Padres Paulistas. Se
ofrecerán sesiones semanales con grupos pequeños en diferentes días y horarios en Inglés
y Español para adultos, adolescentes y familias.
Todos los feligreses tendrán la oportunidad de aprender más acerca
de este sacramento central de nuestra fe, compartir sus experiencias
de fe y orar juntos en su viaje a través de la Cuaresma. Hojas de
inscripción estarán disponibles en las próximas semanas.
SCOUTING AT ST. CYRIL’S
The Boy Scouts of America have been around since 1910 when Lord Robert Baden Powell,
Chief Scout of the World, had a dream to train young men in scouting. Boy Scout Troop 115
was first chartered in the early to mid-1960s (actual dates cannot be found).
In the late 1960s and into the mid-1970s, Mr. Ralph Imoehl was the Scoutmaster of the
Troop. After a period of inactivity, the Troop was revitalized in 2007 by Ellen and Vern Safford who were Advancement Chair and Scoutmaster, respectively, and very active in the Scout
Camps. In Spring 2009, Mr. Chris Bohler stepped into the role as Scoutmaster until July 2013
when Mr. Gustavo Rahmer was selected as the newest Scoutmaster for the Troop. During this
time, there have been many volunteers who have been active participants in making a difference in our young men of
Troop 115. Without their assistance, time, patience and support, these young men may not have had the memories of
the campouts and events.
From 2007 through today the Troop has been very active in the community of St Cyril, Boy Scouting, and Tucson.
There have been four Eagle Scouts since 2010 – Daniel Slaven (2010), Jacob Brazzell (2011), Sean Bohler (2012),
and Dylan Bohler (2013). Troop 115 is continuing the tradition of training our young men today as leaders of tomorrow.
Troop 115 thanks the St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish and School communities for all of the years of support.

The Cub Scouts were developed so that boys too young (7 to 11) to participate in the independent activities of Boy Scouts could take part in scouting.
Pack 115 at St. Cyril has a long history of activities, but was most recently revitalized
through the efforts of Charles Bavier and John Lehman. Each served as Cubmaster with Ryan
Barner and Bill Conant serving as Cubmaster prior to this year when Tom Meixner became the
Cubmaster.
Cub Scouting focuses on developing life skills for boys by encouraging interactions with
other boys while participating in health, education, community and athletic activities. Importantly Cub Scouts focuses on boys conducting activities with their whole families. For example, while Boys Scouts go
camping with their troop and a few parents, Cub Scouts go on camp outs, hikes and events as a whole pack with all
family members.
Pack 115 thanks St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish and our sponsoring organization, the Knights of Columbus Ave Maria
Council, for all of their support.

The Girl Scouts are sponsored by our parish’s school. We have Daisy Troop 248
and Brownie Troop 377 at St. Cyril. Girls in kindergarten and first grade are
eligible to participate in Daisies. At the end of the school year as
they promoted to second grade the Daisies bridge to Brownies and
may participate at this level for two years.
The girls will be selling Girl Scout Cookies ($4 per box) after
the 8:00 and 10:00 AM Masses this Sunday and after the 5:00
PM and 1:00 PM Masses next weekend.

El Movimiento Scout en San Cirilo
Los Boy Scouts de America han existido desde 1910, cuando Lord Robert Baden Powell, Jefe
Scout del Mundo, tuvo el sueño de entrenar a jóvenes en el Movimiento Scout. La Tropa Boy Scout
115 fue acreditada por primera vez en la primera mitad de la década de los 60’s (se desconoce las
fechas exactas).
Desde finales de 1960 hasta mediados de la década de los 70’s, el Sr. Ralph Imoehl fue el jefe
de tropa. Después de un período de inactividad, la Tropa fue revitalizada en 2007 por Ellen y Vern
Safford quienes fueron ascendidos a presidente y jefe de tropa, respectivamente, siendo muy
activos en los campamentos Scout. En la primavera de 2009, el Sr. Chris Bohler desempeño el papel de jefe de tropa hasta julio de 2013, momento en el que el Sr. Gustavo Rahmer fue electo como nuevo jefe de tropa.
Durante este tiempo, han habido muchos voluntarios que han participado activamente y han hecho la diferencia con
nuestros jóvenes de la Tropa 115. Sin su ayuda, tiempo, paciencia y apoyo, estos jóvenes no hubieran tenido los recuerdos que ahora tienen de los campamentos y eventos.
Desde 2007 hasta el día de hoy, la tropa ha estado muy activa en la comunidad de San Cirilo, en el movimiento Scout, y
Tucson. Han habido cuatro Eagle Scouts desde 2010 – Daniel Slaven (2010), Jacob Brazzell (2011), Sean Bohler (2012), y
Dylan Bohler (2013). La Tropa 115 continúa la tradición de formar a nuestros jóvenes de hoy como líderes del mañana.
