Large crowds are expected. Park off-site and use the
free shuttles to and from the Cathedral. Free parking
is available at the Sears parking lot (between Rice
Street and Marion Street). Paid parking is available at
the parking ramp of the Saint Paul College (enter from
Marshall Avenue) and at the Minnesota History Center
(enter from Kellogg Boulevard). Transportation will be
provided starting at noon from these lots to the Cathedral
and back after the Mass. Reserved handicapped parking
is located on Selby Avenue.

In honor of neighborhood women
The Visitation Sisters of Minneapolis wish to invite all to attend
their annual Women’s Retreat, on Saturday, May 21, from 8:30
a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ascension School cafeteria. Please pick
up your invitation from the table in the back of church.
Public Reception, 4 – 6 p.m. Cretin-Derham Hall High
School, 550 S Albert St., St. Paul. Parking is available in the
lots at the school, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and on
neighboring streets. Note: Randolph Avenue will be under
construction between Syndicate Street and I-35E.
Sharon LeFlore wll facilitate our retreat, centered on the
African Legend of the Sankofa Bird, which flies forward
while looking back. Healing comes through a process of
remembering, returning and reclaiming what has been lost,
stolen or strayed on life’s journey. For more information, call

Fun and faith at Catholic Youth Camp
Ascension’s session at CYC this year is June 19-24. Registration
is limited to 75-80 children entering 2nd through 10th grades.

¡La Fiesta de la Ascensión!
Y ¡El Día de las Madres!
Jesús padeció. Murió. Resucitó. El es el Mesías esperado
y enviado por el Padre para el perdón de los pecados
y la salvación del mundo. Al salir de este mundo
terrenal, les encomienda a sus discípulos (¡y a nosotros,
sus descendientes!) a ser testigos del perdón y la
salvación que Dios nos ofrece. Jesús sabe que nosotros
tendremos gran desafíos en cumplir con su querer. Por
eso, ascendió al Padre para que nos llegue el Espíritu
Santo quién nos fortalece para ser testigos apasionados
y fieles. Jesús ya está glorificado. ¿Cómo estamos
respondiendo a su llamada de ser testigos de Él?
Testigos necesitan una comunidad para ser valientes
y felices, y cada comunidad necesita un espacio que
puede decir es suyo. Aquí en la Ascensión, nuestro
espacio propio incluye la iglesia, la escuela y nuestro
campus entero. Hoy, tenemos la oportunidad de invertir
en nuestros espacios sagrados y ayudar a mantenerlos
por el presente y futuro. Favor de estar generosa hacia
la Campaña de Ascensión.
Que María, la primera testigo y modelo mundial del
amor de mamá, nos bendiga y cuide ahora y siempre.
¡Felicidades a todas las mamás de nuestra comunidad
y a las mujeres en nuestras vidas que han sido como
mamá para nosotros.

From the pastor
I
was thrilled last weekend to help celebrate the First Communion
of 40 of our beautiful children—23 boys and 17 girls. It was my first
First Communion at Ascension. This celebration always makes for
an especially happy day: more buzz than usual as our kids join us
at the Eucharistic table. There were more than a few tears among
our parents. “I’m so proud of him.” “She’s a beautiful kid.” “I’m so
happy that she’s so happy.” “This is a wonderful day for our family.”
It was a wonderful day, and another sacramental milestone, in our
127-year history.
As we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension this weekend,
and Pentecost next week (with our Unity Mass at 10:30), we’re
reminded again to thank God for the gift of the Church, for the
blessing of our own parish communion. The Paschal Mystery, the
Easter Mystery, is fulfilled in Jesus’ return to the Father. The love
between Father and Son spills over and takes the form of the Holy
Spirit, and is poured out so that we can share in it. The “something”
that makes Ascension special is that Holy Spirit.
This is also “Commitment Weekend,” making our pledge to
participate in the Ascension Campaign, restoring our campus
and buildings—AND US! It’s an exceptional opportunity for each
and every one of us. Capital campaigns are rare: we’ve not had
one at Ascension in our lifetimes. I, for one, am happy to make
a pledge as a concrete sign of my gratitude for, my esteem for,
my hope in, the Church of the Ascension: that is, YOU—and First
Communion kids and Northsiders for generations to come.
Happy Feast of the Ascension! Happy Mother’s Day! Happy
Pentecost! Happy Campaign!

e emocionó el pasado fin de semana ayudar a celebrar
la Primera Comunión de 40 de nuestros hermosos
muchachos - 23 niños y 17 niñas. Fue la primera vez que
celebré Primeras Comuniones en Ascensión. Esta celebración
hace siempre un día especialmente feliz: más ruido de lo normal
ya que nuestros hijos se unen a nosotros en la mesa Eucarística.
Había algunas lágrimas en el rostro de nuestros padres. Ellos
decían: “Estoy muy orgulloso de él”. “Es una chica hermosa”.
“Estoy tan feliz de que ella esta tan feliz “.” Este es un día
maravilloso para nuestra familia”. Fue un día maravilloso, y otra
señal de los sacramentos, en nuestros 127 años de historia.
Al celebrar la fiesta de la Ascensión este fin de semana y
Pentecostés la próxima semana (con nuestra misa de Unidad a
las 10:30), recordamos de nuevo dar gracias a Dios por el don de
la Iglesia, por la bendición de nuestra comunión en la parroquia.
El misterio pascual, se cumple cuando Jesús regresa al Padre. El
amor entre el Padre y el Hijo se derrama y toma forma del Espíritu
Santo, y se esparce para que podamos participar en ella. Esto
es “algo” que hace especial a Ascensión en el Espíritu Santo.
Este será el “Compromiso de fin de semana”, haciendo nuestra
promesa de participar
Este es también nuestro fin de semana de compromiso, por lo
que nuestro compromiso de participar en la Campaña de la
Ascensión , para l la restauración de los edificios de nuestra escuela
y la Iglesia. - Y NOSOTROS ! Esta es una oportunidad excepcional
para todos y cada uno de nosotros. La campaña para capitalizar
Ascensión es rara: no hemos tenido uno en la Ascensión por
muchísimo tiempo. Yo, por mi parte, estoy feliz de hacer una
promesa como un signo concreto de mi agradecimiento, mi
estimación y mi esperanza en la Iglesia de la Ascensión: es decir,
TÚ- los niños de Primera Comunión y los vecinos de el norte de
Minneapolis y las generaciones que están por venir.
Feliz fiesta de la Ascensión! ¡Feliz día de la madre! ¡Feliz
