Dear Parents/Guardians:
Happy New Year! I hope the Winter break was relaxing and the New Year brings much good
health and happiness. January brings our 2nd quarter to an end on the 16th. This month also brings
ACCESS testing for our bilingual students. This test is administered from the 15th through February 13th.
Our students have been working very hard, not only academically but behaviorally as well. For
those students who have not received a referral for the 2nd quarter, we have an assembly scheduled for
January 23rd. We are very proud of how our children behave and are respectful of one another! Thank
you for your assistance and support in this area.
Also, attendance has been a high priority this year and our mentor program has shown excellent
results! We already have two bicycles, one scooter, Inwood ice rink passes, and two tablets donated for
students who qualify for the end of the year drawing. To be eligible for the drawing, a student must
have perfect attendance all year long.
We look forward to meeting with our parents for Parent/Teacher Conferences on the 29th and 30th.
This will be the last in-person Parent/Teacher Conferences for the year. On Thursday, January 29th
conferences are from 2:30 p.m-6:30 p.m. and on Friday, January 30th they are from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

Kindergarten Tiger Tales
The Kindergarten students are on top this month. They enjoy making inferences and visualizing by combining
their background knowledge and clues from the text. We are using poems and non-fiction text to figure out the
meaning of text and to make sense of new information. In math, the students were introduced to the plus and
minus sign and how they are used. They are learning how to explain different strategies to solve addition and
subtraction problems.
Tiger Tales for 2nd Grade
Welcome back! Please remember to help your child get back into the swing of things by encouraging them to
read their AR book or another book of choice every night. These first couple weeks back will be a lot of review
on skills we learned before break such as opinion writing, making inferences, and adding and subtracting 2 digit
numbers on the open number line or by decomposing. Then, with the 2nd quarter ending we will be finishing up
unit 2 in math, as well as our unit on opinion writing. We hope to see everyone at parent teacher conferences
on the 29th and 30th. Happy New Year, let's make it a great one!
4th Grade Tiger Tales
This month in 4th grade we will be learning about plants and animals. This will be an exciting unit to compare
and contrast plants and animals to humans. We will continue working with measurement in math. Please continue
to encourage your child to read 20 minutes of their AR book at home. Students may continue to go outside for
recess, so please remind your child to dress warm.

Estimados Padres / Tutores:
Feliz Año Nuevo! Espero que las vacaciones de invierno fueran muy relajantes y el Año Nuevo les
traiga mucha salud y felicidad. Enero trae nuestro segundo semestre a su fin el día 16. Este mes también
trae pruebas de acceso de nuestros estudiantes bilingües. Esta prueba se administra desde el 15 al 13 de
febrero.
Nuestros estudiantes han estado trabajando muy duro, no sólo académicamente, sino su comportamiento
también. Para aquellos estudiantes que no han recibido una recomendación para el segundo trimestre
tenemos una asamblea programada para el 23 de enero. Estamos muy orgullosos de cómo se comportan
nuestros hijos y respetuosos el uno del otro! Gracias por su ayuda y apoyo en esta área.
Además, la asistencia ha sido una prioridad de este año y nuestro programa de mentores ha mostrado
excelentes resultados! Ya tenemos dos bicicletas, una moto, pases para la pista de hielo Inwood y 2
tabletas donadas para los estudiantes que califican para el sorteo del fin del año. Para ser elegible al
sorteo, el estudiante debe tener asistencia perfecta durante todo el año.
Esperamos con interés poder reunirnos con nuestros padres para las conferencias de padres / maestros el
29 y 30 de enero. Esta será la última conferencia en persona con los padres/maestros para el año. El
jueves, 29 en enero, las conferencias son de 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. y el viernes 30 de enero, son de 8:00
a.m. hasta las 10:00 a.m.

Cuentos del Tigre de Kindergarten
Los estudiantes de kindergarten están en la parte superior este mes. Disfrutan haciendo inferencias y
visualizar mediante la combinación de sus conocimientos y pistas de fondo del texto. Estamos utilizando
poemas y textos de no ficción para averiguar el significado de un texto y de dar sentido a la nueva
información. En matemáticas, los estudiantes fueron introducidos en el signo más y menos y cómo se
utilizan. Ellos están aprendiendo cómo explicar diferentes estrategias para resolver problemas de suma
y resta.
Cuentos del Tigre de 2do grado
Bienvenidos! Por favor, recuerde que debe ayudar a su hijo de nuevo en el ritmo de las cosas,
alentándolos a leer su libro de AR u otro libro de elección cada noche. Estas primeras dos semanas de
regreso estaremos repasando bastante las habilidades que hemos aprendido antes de las vacaciones,
como opinión por escrito, hacer inferencias, y sumar y restar números de 2 dígitos en la recta numérica
abierta o por la descomposición. En el segundo trimestre final estaremos terminando la unidad 2 en
matemáticas, así como nuestra unidad en la opinión por escrito. Esperamos verlos a todos en las
conferencias de padres y maestros el 29 y 30. Feliz Año Nuevo, vamos hacerlo grandioso!
Cuentos del Tigre de 4to Grado
Este mes en el cuarto grado vamos a aprender acerca de las plantas y los animales. Esta será una
unidad emocionante para comparar y contrastar las plantas y los animales a los seres humanos.
Seguiremos trabajando con medición en matemáticas. Por favor, anime a su hijo a leer 20 minutos de
su libro de AR en casa. Los alumnos podrán continuar a salir afuera, así que por favor recuérdele a su
hijo que se vista caliente.
