Corner
Hello Somis Families,
Our students are making great advances in
their academic progress! Your support is vital
for this to continue. The staff at Somis is
worried because we have noticed an unusual
number of students being taken out of school
for a week or more to visit relatives, go to
Mexico, or take a family vacation. I cannot
stress enough the importance that your child
is in school everyday. Research shows
that for every 1 day that a child is away from
school it represents a 2 day loss in learning.
This is because when the child returns to
school they not only have to catch up on the
missing lessons but at the same time they are
trying to keep up with the new instruction.
Please help your child be successful at
school by taking your extended trips during
our winter, spring or summer vacations. We
recognize that illness and emergencies do
occur but as much as possible we need to
have every child in their seat, every day.

PFO NEWS
The next PFO meeting is on Thursday,
March 6th at 6:00 pm in the Library. We will
share desserts and talk about the exciting
upcoming events: Snow Day, Jog-a-thon and
the school carnival. Come and share your ideas!
A BIG thank you goes out to all
the teachers who worked so hard
at Mc Teacher’s Night, and to
all the families who came out to
support our fundraiser!
The BOOK FAIR is coming! March 17-21.
To celebrate the joy of reading,
we will have a Family Reading
Night Wednesday, March 19th.
6:00 -7:30 pm. Books will be
available to buy that evening.
Volunteers are needed for the
Jog-a-Thon/Color Run on April 3rd. We are
also looking for sponsorships and donations
from local businesses. Please contact Nita

Hola Familias de Somis,
Nuestros estudiantes están haciendo grandes
avances en su progreso académico! Tu ayuda
es fundamental para que esto continúe. El
personal de Somis están preocupados porque
nos hemos dado cuenta de un número inusual
de estudiantes que son sacados de la escuela
por una semana o más para visitar a familiars, ir
a México, o tomar unas vacaciones familiars.
No puedo hacer suficiente hincapié en la
importancia de que sus hijos está en la escuela
todos los días. La investigación muestra que por
cada 1 día que un niño está fuera de la escuela
que representa una pérdida de 2 días en el
aprendizaje. Esto se debe a que cuando el niño
regrese a la escuela que no sólo tienen que
ponerse al día con las lecciones que faltan,
pero, al mismo tiempo que están tratando de
mantenerse al día con la nueva instrucción. Por
favor ayude a sus hijos a tener éxito en la
escuela, tomando sus viajes prolongados
durante nuestras vacaciones de invierno,
primavera o verano. Reconocemos que las
enfermedades y las situaciones de emergencia
probables pero lo más posible necesitamos
tener a todos los niños en sus asientos, todos
los días. Gracias por su apoyo en este asunto.

Noticias del PFO
La próxima reunión PFO es el jueves 6 de
marzo a las 6:00 pm en la biblioteca. Vamos a
compartir los postres y hablar sobre la excitante
Próximos eventos: Día de la nieve,
Jog-a-thon y el carnaval de la escuela. Ven y comparte tus ideas!
Un gran agradecimiento va
para todos los profesores que han
trabajado tan duro en la noche de
McTeacher, ya todas las familias que vinieron a
apoyar a nuestra recaudación de fondos!
La Feria del Libro se acerca! 17 a 21
marzo. Para celebrar el placer de leer, vamos a
tener una Noche de Lectura
Familiar Miércoles, 19 de marzo. 6:00 -7:30 pm. Los libros
estarán disponibles para comprar esa noche.
Se necesitan voluntarios para el
Jog-a-Thon/Color Ejecutar el 3 de abril.
También estamos buscando patrocinios y
