Superintendent’s Corner
Dear Somis Students and Families,
This week you will be receiving your child’s first report
card of the year. You will notice that the report card is
very different from what you received in the past years.
The new report card was developed to represent the
changes in the Common Core Standards for California.
This new report card will begin with an assessment of your
child’s behavior and study habits. These factors play a
very important role in your child’s success and we hope
that you will find valuable information that can be used in
conversation with your child. The new report card lists a
performance grade for each subject matter, such as
Reading, Writing, Listening, Math, Science etc., and also
gives a mark for how well the student is progressing
through each standard. These marks will help you to
determine your child’s specific areas of strength and
weakness. “A Parents Guide to Student Success” will be
attached to each report card with more information about
the Common Core Standards and how you can help your
child at home. Please do not hesitate to call or stop by my
office if you have questions.

“December ‘Round the World”
and Pozole Dinner .
Dinner is sponsored by the PFO and will be from
5:30-6:30pm in the cafeteria. Dinner
tickets are $5.00 pre-sale, and $7.00 at the door.
There will be a Holiday Craft Fair
and pictures with Santa.
The sixth grade class will have a bake sale.
The Holiday Program will begin
at 7:00 pm.

Estimados Estudiantes y Familias de Somis,
Esta semana va a recibir la primera tarjeta de
calificaciones de su hijo de año. Usted se dará cuenta de que la
tarjeta de informe es muy diferente de lo que ha recibido en los
últimos años. La nueva tarjeta de informe fue desarrollado para
representar los cambios en los estándares básicos generales de
California. Esta nueva tarjeta de informe comenzará con una
evaluación del comportamiento y los hábitos de estudio de su hijo.
Estos factores juegan un papel muy importante en el éxito de su
hijo y esperamos que usted encontrará información valiosa que se
puede usar en una conversación con su hijo. Las nuevas listas de
tarjetas de informe de un grado de rendimiento para cada materia,
tales como lectura, escritura, comprensión, matemáticas, ciencias,
etc., y también le da un signo de lo bien que el estudiante está
progresando a través de cada nivel. Estas marcas ayudarán a
determinar las áreas específicas de su hijo de fortaleza y debilidad.
"Una guía a los padres que el Éxito Estudiantil" se adjuntará a
cada boleta de calificaciones con más información sobre las
normas fundamentales comunes y cómo puede ayudar a su hijo en
casa. Por favor, no dude en llamar o pasar por mi oficina es que
usted tiene preguntas.

La clase de sexto grado tendrá una venta de pasteles.
El Programa Navideño comenzará
