Our Santa Barbara Regional Congress is right around the corner. Our speakers are preparing their presentations, the
exhibitors are deciding what to pack in their boxes and trunks and the congress team is busy planning a day for you that not
only runs smoothly but will offer you many opportunities to grow in your awareness of what it means to 'Belong to Christ'!
The challenge of this year’s theme is immense.
'Belong to Christ'...
While every family may look different we all belong to a family. When we love our family and we're proud of our roots we
want to live in a way that best represents who we are and what we stand for. Galatians 3:26-29 tells us that, because of our
faith, we are ALL God’s children and all heirs of the same promises because we belong to Christ's family. If I truly believe
this...that I 'Belong to Christ' then I am accepting responsibility to 'Live as Christ’. It's never enough to just love Christ
rather my life must bring Christ to others by the way I live my own life.
We believe that God created our community of faith as a family who need one another as we journey through this life of
ours. I will look forward to seeing you, my family, on October 11. Together we will pray, learn, listen and laugh and
strengthened by our experience, we'll return to our worlds grateful for the task of bringing Christ to others!

El Congreso Regional de Santa Bárbara ya está a la vuelta de la esquina. Los conferencistas ya están preparando sus temas, los
de los exhibidores ya están planenando qué empacar, y el equipo del congreso ya está planeando no sólo un día acogedor,
también quieren ofrecer oportunidades de crear conciencia de lo que significa el ¡'Ser de Cristo'!
El reto que presenta el tema de este año es enorme.
'Pertenece a Cristo'...
Es cierto que ninguna familia se parece a otra, pero todos somos parte de una familia. Si amamos a nuestra familia, y estamos
orgullosos de pertenecer a ella, es necesario vivir de una manera que dé testimonio a quienes somos y en qué creemos. La carta
a los Gálatas 3:26-29 nos dice que, es por nuestra fe, que TODOS somos hijos de Dios y herederos de sus promesas porque
pertenecemos a la familia de Cristo. Si en realidad creemos esto... que 'Somos de Cristo', con esto aceptamos nuestra
responsabilidad de 'Vivir como Cristo'. No es suficiente con decir que amamos a Cristo, tenemos que traer a Cristo a los
demás en la manera que vivimos nuestra propia vida.
Reconocemos que Dios creó nuestra comunidad de fe como una familia en la cual dependemos los unos de los otros en nuestro
caminar por este mundo. ¡Deseo con ansias verlos pronto, mi familia, el 11 de Octubre. Una vez juntos, rezaremos,
aprenderemos, escucharemos y nos reiremos fortalecidos a través de nuestra experiencia, y regresaremos al mundo
agradecidos por la oportunidad de traer a Cristo a los demás.

Janice Daurio is a professor of philosophy at Moorpark
College. Her philosophical work is in ethics and
philosophy of religion. She and her husband, Dr. Paul
Ford, are oblates of St. Andrew's Abbey, Valyermo, and
members of Padre Serra Parish, Camarillo.
What IS that RCIA thing?
Have you ever wondered what it means when people talk
about RCIA or "the Rite"? This workshop gives a brief
history of adult initiation and the form it takes today.
Great for beginners or those just starting.

Catechesis According to CNN, QVC, Stephen Colbert…and
Saint Augustine
Fr. Chris was born and grew up in the San Gabriel Valley.
He entered St. John's Seminary after receiving a
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. Ordained in 2003, he is
serving in the Archdiocese at the Office of Religious
Education in Adult Formation. He also serves the
Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission.
Catechists are always on the lookout for effective ways to
proclaim the Gospel message. Today they have creative
avenues available to them that were unthinkable even a
short time ago. With this in mind, what catechetical skills
might be learned from some contemporary – and
unexpected – sources: a cable news network, a
merchandising empire, a television satirist? Further, how
can these modern-day skills benefit from the wisdom of a
fifth century saint? This session will allow both veterans
and newcomers to discover creative ways to enliven their
catechetical ministry to children, youth or adults.

The secular and the spiritual sometimes unexpectedly
converge. Biblical themes are hidden where we and our
students might least expect them--in drama,

Joan Doyle is a catechetical consultant, workshop
presenter, writer and nationally certified Lay Ecclesial
Minister. She has held a variety of positions in her Los
Angeles parish, St. Paul the Apostle (junior high religion
teacher and assistant principal, parish DRE). Her
education includes a B.A. (English) and M.A. (Religious
Education) from Immaculate Heart College and she holds
a California teaching credential and certification as a
Master Catechist and a Media Literacy Educator. Joan
has served as a judge for THE HUMANITAS PRIZE,
rewarding writers of film and TV shows that both
entertain and enrich the viewing public and has written
Study Guides for two DVD series, "Film Clips for Catholic
Youth Faith Formation" and "Film Clips for Catholic
Youth Faith Formation (Elementary)." Both are coproduced by Paulist Productions and distributed by RCL
Benziger.
Timothy Crehan, M.A. Theology, worked in documentary
television production for various shows that have aired
on The History Channel, truTV, Spike TV, and G4. He
currently serves as an official reader for the HUMANITAS
Prize, honoring film & television writers who both
entertain and inspire. Timothy teaches full-time in the
Theology Department at Immaculate Heart High School
in Los Angeles, CA

There are many different answers to the question; What
is the meaning of life? Some people say that without God
life has no meaning. We will discuss these ideas.

105-Dr. Paul Ford
also served as a Parish Administrator, Youth
Minister/Confirmation Coordinator and a variety of
other ministries over the past 25 years. With his wife,
Elga and their three teen-age sons, a broader
understanding of the realities of our “domestic” church
and its unique challenges, will be fore-front in this
presentation.
In Whom Do You Hope? For What Do You Hope?—What
You've Always Wanted to Know about Heaven, Hell and
Purgatory
Many misunderstandings and myths exist about the
nature of heaven, hell and purgatory. What do the Bible
and the Church teach about life after death? How do the
expectation of rewards or threats of punishments affect
how we live our lives today?

Ministering to Millennials: Pope Francis Is Our Guide
The Millennial generation (those in their 20s and early
30s) is everywhere in the church--not just in young adult
groups. They are coming to be prepared for marriage; to
have their children baptized, prepared for sacraments or
enrolled in school; as well as serving as teachers, youth
ministers, liturgical ministers and so on. Some of these
young adults may not even identify as Catholic, but they
really like Pope Francis! "Business as usual" won't do for
them. What can Francis teach us that might help us
minister to this demographic?
Dr. Paul Ford has been a professor of theology and
liturgy at St. John’s Seminary, Camarillo, California since
February 1988. He specializes in ecclesiology,
sacramentology, and spiritual theology. In 1995 Dr. Ford
was honored by Cardinal Roger Mahony with the
Laudatus Award “for excellence in the promotion of the
liturgical life of the parishes and the people of the
Archdioceses of Los Angeles.” He is married to the
philosopher, Janice Daurio, Ph.D. They make their home
Douglas Leal is the Division Coordinator of the Division of
Adult Faith Formation and Young Adult Ministry with the
Office of Religious Education and was formerly the
Director of Ministries for St. Sebastian Church in West
LA. He is also a professional actor and director and
previously worked as a management consultant.
Douglas received his MA from the Boston College School
of Theology and Ministry. He is the author of the skillbuilding book for lectors, “Stop Reading and Start
Proclaiming!”

How to Create and Implement Adult Faith Formation for Parents and Sponsors
The new evangelization calls us to a deeper relationship
with Jesus Christ. Unique challenges are presented to
parishes with families of high school age youth preparing
for Confirmation. Family life, the turbulence of
adolescence with practical applications for creating and
implementing adult faith formation will be the focus of
this session.

Warren G. Kunkle III is presently an educational
consultant for William H. Sadlier Inc. He is a Master
Catechist and volunteers in his parish as the High School
Confirmation Parent Formation Coordinator. He has

Miracles of Jesus to Life in Your Sessions.
A mother of two wonderful children serving as the San
Fernando Regional Coordinator for the Office Of
Religious Education in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles,
Margaret earned her BA from the University of San
Diego in the area of Theological and Religious Studies
and a MA from Loyola Marymount University with a
focus in Pastoral Ministry. She Just celebrated 10 years
of ministry work in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Experience in the Archdiocese ranges from teaching in
Catholic Schools to serving in parish work, both as a DRE
and Coordinator of JH/Confirmation ministry and now in
the area of Diocesan work. Master Catechist since 2007
she is a digital immigrant who is eager to learn.
Students’ faith and spirituality are developed when they
are involved in interactive and tactile activities that have
been integrated into your sessions. The workshop will
focus on creative ideas and techniques that can be
immediately used in your learning setting with
elementary aged children. You will take an active role at
this workshop and come away with lots of practical ideas.
Marie, a Master Catechist, serves in ministry at Our Lady
of Malibu parish. Her creative ideas have been published
nationally. She believes that the faith is passed on
through tactile hands on experiences of the faith
knowledge being presented.

Always Our Children: Pastoral Care of Lesbian and Gay
Catholics and Their Parents
A VIRTUS 'RE-CERTIFICATION' SESSION!!!
Something new and different this year!
This session is for anyone who has already gone thru the
original Virtus Training and has already been certified. If
your certification is up (or nearly up) this will be a great
opportunity for you! It will take the place of one of your
sessions and is being offered ONLY to Registered Regional
Congress Attendees.
YOU MUST BE REGISTERED FOR REGIONAL CONGRESS IN
ORDER TO ATTEND.
**Please Note: If you are one of our blessed & bi-lingual
attendees you will have two choices as we are offering
this Re-Certification Session in both English (Session 111)
and in Spanish (Session 261)
This session will explain the various Church teachings on
ministering to gay and lesbian catholics with an emphasis
in counseling parents after they've learned their son or
daughter is LGBT. Structured to help catechists and
teachers better communicate with students and parents,
the session will concentrate on the U.S. Bishops'
documents "Always Our Children" (1997) and "Ministry to
Persons with a Homosexual Inclination: Guidelines for
Pastoral Care" (2006).
Frank McKown is co-chair of the L.A. Archdiocese’s
Catholic Ministry with Lesbian and Gay Persons, founded
in 1986 by Cardinal Mahoney. The ministry is the oldest
such organization in the nation and provides a safe and
welcoming environment for lesbians and gay persons
through liturgy, outreach, education and fellowship. Mr.
McKown has planned and led liturgies and retreats on a

What Am I Going to Do With These Kids?!
Father Ken Deasy has lived a life in the Church that is
anything but ordinary. After graduating from Saint Francis
High School he entered the Capuchin Franciscans and
returned to his alma mater as a teacher and fundraiser.
Discerning a call to the Priesthood, Father Deasy entered
Saint John’s Seminary and went on to serve as a parish priest
at Saint Monica, Saint Bernardine of Siena and Saint Agatha,
where he was pastor for 11 years. Outside of parish ministry
Father Deasy became more involved in global missionary
work and detention ministry as he spent many years
volunteering at the Central Jail and Juvenile Detention
Facilities. More recently he has served as director of the
Archdiocesan Holy Childhood Association. That involvement
led him to travel to impoverished areas of the world, most
notably, Haiti and South Sudan, Africa.
This workshop is for those who do RCIA for children. We
will explore common issues and problems with
unbaptized, older children and adolescents, as well as
family dynamics and catechesis. We will discuss problems
and best practices. Come ready to contribute and work!

Joy! The Echo of God’s Life in Us (Bloy)
Pope Francis is convinced of the joy that is available to us
24/7 no matter what the circumstances or difficulties of
our lives. He even wrote a letter on it! What sustains our
joy? How can we cultivate a deep sense of joy that no “to
do” list, pressures or conflicts can destroy it?
Sr. Kathleen is a Religious Sister of Charity, a workshop
presenter and retreat facilitator. Sr. Kathleen has a
Masters Degree in Spirituality from USF and a Doctor of
Ministry Degree from Graduate Theological Foundation.

How We Catechize and What We Catechize
Jesus WITNESSED the existence of Father. He came to
witness what is "of the Father.” The Holy Spirit empowers
us more so today to be loving Christs to the world, to find
meaning in all the nonsense! Christ's Catholic catechists
are being asked to Show me YOUR experience of God!
Show me YOUR experience of the Joy, Love and
Happiness that come with FAITH! Show me where you've
found the Peace of Christ! Where's the Joy, YOUR Joy!
Where is your excitement? Where is your Zeal? How is it
Throughout his priestly ministry Father Ken has been an
impassioned advocate for youth and young adults and
participated in and/or directed over 50 retreats for that age
group. He is an engaging speaker and a great raconteur,
having delivered speeches at the Hollywood Bowl and
provided direction for international philanthropist. He has
spoken continuously at the Religious Education Congress. He
is also a published author, most recently of the provocatively
named title: “Get Off the Cross, Someone Else Needs the
Wood.”

The Sacramental Marriage: Reconnecting Amidst the Chaos
of Life Changes
Navigating the day-to-day of marriage is challenge enough,
but when substantial life changes happen, it can feel like
drowning. Part witness and part practice, the Durands share
reminders of how to reconnect with one another in the
sacrament of marriage amidst the chaos life can bring.

Kristine Durand is a reformed business marketing
professional who now works full time in youth ministry
as Director of Campus Ministry for La Reina High School.
A transplant to the region, she has served in various
capacities of ministry and is currently active as a
Liturgical Minister at her parish, Padre Serra in
Camarillo. Kristine and husband Howard, a youth
minister who moonlights as a sound engineer, live in
Camarillo with their two girls, ages 2 and 4.
Howard has been working in Youth Ministry for over 15
years, leading hands-on youth group and confirmation
sessions. He has been a leader on over fifty retreats
including confirmation, Camp Big Deal and S.A.W.,
leadership retreats and a variety of others. Howard is
the very proud husband of a fellow youth leader,
Kristine Durand and daddy of 2 beautiful little girls.

The Joy of Small Groups!
Parish life is full of opportunities to gather with others in
small groups: Parish Council meetings, small faith sharing
groups, pastoral support gatherings and the annual
festival planning team, just to name a few. Working
together in small groups can be a great way to build
church, but can also present particular challenges. We’ll
be covering active listening, group facilitation techniques
(especially how to gracefully manage group members
who may be sharing too much or too little) and looking at
hints from the Scriptures about working with others. So
come learn, practice or refine your small group skills in
this fun and interactive workshop!

Do You Feel Like a “Flintstone” Teaching to a “Jetson”
Audience?
Relax…it is true that technology is changing quickly these
days….but the message of Jesus Christ stays the same. There
are so many great resources on the internet (and many not so
great). How do we find good “FREE” resources on the
internet? Bring your tablet, laptop or cellphone and we will go
on a treasure hunt to find good Catholic websites for
inspirational videos, lesson plans and other creative ideas for
teaching children, teens and adults who are living in the
“Jetson” age. Let’s think outside the box – getting our head in
the “Cloud”. We can use today’s social media and other
computer tools to empower our students to be Disciples of
Christ. I will share my top 10.
Nancy Longo is the DRE at St. Joseph Parish in Long Beach.
She was the Youth Director for 18 years at St. Bernard’s in
Bellflower. She is a Master Catechist, has her Advanced Bible
Institute Certificate and the National Youth Ministry
Certificate. Nancy loves her family – who are spread across
the United States, 7 grown children (his, mine and ours) 14
grandchildren and now her 1st great-grand daughter. She
loves Jesus more than anything and is a technology geek in
her spare time.
Dr. Christine Gerety currently serves as the Associate
Director of Outreach and Pastoral Care at St. Monica
Catholic Community in Santa Monica. She coordinates
several parish ministries and programs and trains
volunteer leaders in a variety of areas, including retreat
& event planning and small group facilitation skills. Dr.
Gerety, a clinical psychologist, truly enjoys working with

“Song of Songs”
Mary is the model for our ministry, living according to the
Spirit, listening and pondering on the Word of God and
allowing it to transform the everyday circumstances of
our lives. Mary leads us to discover the secret of Christian
joy, reminding us that Christianity is, first and foremost,
evangelization, "good news", which has as its heart and
its whole content the person of Jesus Christ, the Word
made flesh, the one Savior of the world. - Pope John Paul
II.
This workshop is an introduction to the “Song of Songs”, an
exquisite love poem that speaks to human sexuality, theology,
and spirituality.
Kay Murdy has a Master's Degree in Religious Studies
from Mount St. Mary's College and is a Master Catechist
for the Los Angeles Archdiocese. Kay is a member of the
teaching and coordinating team of the Catholic Bible
Institute co-sponsored by the Archdiocese Office of
Religious Education and Loyola Marymount University.
Kay has written five books on scripture and spirituality
for Resource Publications and Ligouri Publications. Her
novel, Song of the Dove, a story of Mary of Nazareth,
was published by ACTA, 2014.

From Darkness to Light
Looking at our own interior darkness and calling on Jesus,
the light of all life, to walk with us, we will be looking at
our past selves, our present selves and our future selves.
Be ready for transformation!
Judy a national speaker on spirituality, relationships and
personal growth is currently involved in baptism
ministry at her home parish and in retreat ministry. She
has worked for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as
Confirmation Coordinator and as Pastoral Associate at
UCSB. She has also worked for the Diocese of Phoenix as
Associate Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry
and as Pastoral Associate at St. Thomas More Church in
Glendale, Arizona where she is currently employed.
William Shaules has a Ph.D. in New Testament from Fuller
Theological Seminary. He teaches Scripture at Loyola
Marymount Universityand serves as an Associate
Coordinator of Diaconate Formation for the Archdiocese of
Los Angeles.

Has someone ever invited you to do something for the young

Katie Zeigler serves the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as
Consultant for Youth Ministry & Confirmation in the Office of
Religious Education. For over 15 years she has served as
Youth Ministry/Confirmation coordinator, volunteer team
member and retreat facilitator in several parishes
throughout the Los Angeles area. Katie is pursuing an M.A.
in Pastoral Theology at LMU and is a member of the
National Association of Catholic Youth Ministry Leaders.

John Vianney in Hacienda Heights. Her prior work as an
elementary school teacher as well as a catechist for the
past 15 years have helped her develop a successful
Family Catechesis program at the parish. She is also
currently involved in the Advanced Catechetical
Ministries through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles
Anita Herrera is currently a junior high teacher in the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles and a graduate of Loyola
Marymount University. She is a parent, former 12-year DRE
and a member of the Los Angeles Early Childhood Board.
Anita has conducted numerous workshops and is a regular
speaker at Regional Congress as well as the Los Angeles
Congress. Humor is her favorite teaching tool.

Pope Francis: Is He Speaking to our Hearts and Our
Parishes?
Pope Francis calls on us to go out to the periphery and
share Christ with others. This is our call to live the active
life of Jesus. This is a call to show Jesus to others by
reaching out to those who need the love of Christ in their
lives. When we reach out we discover who we are, we
discover who God is, we have a deeper relationship with
God as sons and daughters of Christ and we admire and
imitate Jesus and his great love. We, as children of God,
are constantly called and stretched to live like Christ. In
this workshop we will discuss how we are being called,
blessed, broken and shared to live the active Christian
life.
Dr. Joy Jones holds a Master’s Degree in Religious
Studies and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Catholic
University of America. With her extensive academic
background in the fields of Adult Spiritual Formation,
Adult Education, Ministry and Christian Initiation, she is
currently serving as Pastoral Associate at Holy Trinity
Church, San Pedro. Joy also serves in the LA-Archdiocese
as a workshop presenter, retreat facilitator and spiritual
director. She has written and published a treatise titled
“The Inclusion of Uncatechized Teens in the Rite of
Christian Initiation of Adults.” Dr Joy works, volunteers,
ministers and writes, yet still finds time and enjoyment
sharing her Catholic Faith with youth, adults and the
mentally challenged.

“Once upon a time…" We Began Our Journey to God
Fairy Tales are stories of the human spirit. The heroes and
heroines face challenges, experience transformations and
sometimes live "happily ever after." These oral tales are the
purest and simplest expression of the collective
unconscious. This session will explore our fascination with
Fairy Tales and how these deceptively simple tales provide
deep insights into our own spiritual journey. Examples of the
basic motifs found throughout the world illustrate not only
the power of story to capture our imagination but also how
pop culture utilizes these powerful tales.
Sister Carol Quinlivan, CSJ, is a member of the Sisters of St.
Joseph of Carondelet. She is a Spiritual Director and Retreat
Facilitator with extensive experience in spiritual formation
within the parish, schools and at the Archdiocesan level.
Presently she ministers at Serra Retreat Center in Malibu and
other Retreat Centers as she completes her Ph.D.

Carmen J. Vadillo is an enthusiastic educator who served
fourteen years as an extremely busy principal at an
ethnically diverse elementary school serving many low12
income families. Ms. Vadillo holds a Master Degree in
Curriculum and Instruction and is currently Assistant
Superintendent who supervises 31 out of 209
elementary schools for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Additionally she serves as the faith leader for the
elementary schools working with the Elementary
Schools Leadership Council. Assisting and inspiring hardworking, dedicated school leaders is her passion and
mission.

Bloom Where You Are Planted-Saint Therese of Lisieux
So many times we find ourselves not where we want to
be and wondering what we did to get there and what we
can do to get out of it. Based on the book of Jonah and
the wisdom of Saint Therese of Lisieux this workshop will
teach us not only to accept the conditions that God sends
us, but to embrace them and thrive in them. We will talk
about forgiveness, discernment, patience and the
rewards that come with it.
Luella Wagner has taught in Catholic schools for 19
years at both the elementary and high school level. She
has taught in Los Angeles, CA, Sao Paulo, Brazil,
American Samoa and most recently the Northern
Cheyenne Indian Reservation in southeastern Montana.
She recently finished her memoir about her experiences
in Catholic education. She has a teaching credential
from UCLA and an MA in Educational Theatre from New
York University.

Esta es una historia inspiradora de Colin Goddard, quien es un sobreviviente de la Masacre del 2007 en Virginia
Tech. La pasión de Colin, el carisma y su optimismo han cautivado la atención del pueblo Americano y los medios
de comunicación desde aquel día trágico, en que murieron 32 y 17 salieron lesionados. Viviendo por los 32 que no
pudieron es un autoretrato muy fuerte en contenido al relatar el terror que Colin y sus compañeros tuvieron que
soportar, y la valentía en su recuperación al elegir el camino de la esperanza.
¿Qué enseña nuestra iglesia en relación al control de armas?
Ahora más que nunca, la igelsia y todas las personas de buena voluntad deberán trabajar en conjunto para
enfrentar la cultura de la violencia, y en su lugar, construir una cultura que valore la paz y la dignidad inherente de
todo ser humano. Nos unimos al Papa Emérito Benedicto XVI quien comunicó en su Mensaje por el Día Mundial
de la Paz del 2013: "La vida en su plenitud es la cima de la paz. Aquellos quienes aman la paz no pueden tolerar los
ataques y crímenes en contra de la vida." Hoy, de una manera particular le suplicamos al Congreso que instituyan
normas que colaboren a minimizar la violencia con armas en nuestra sociedad y ayuden así a salvar vidas.

Las 5 Necesidades Vitales de los Niños
Para que la catequesis sea más efectiva, es importante
que los niños se sientan respetados, importantes,
aceptados, incluidos y seguros. En este taller aprenderás
estas 5 necesidades vitales de los niños según el Doctor
Gerald Newmark.
Un Plan Semanal. Compartiremos ideas de cómo
enriquecer nuestras sesiones catequéticas dándoles ese
enfoque que energice nuestro espíritu. Usaremos
recursos que pueden embellecer estas reuniones: música,
videos, arte, y medios de comunicación en internet. Los
catequistas pueden poner en práctica inmediatamente
estas ideas y actividades en su salón de clase porque son
fáciles de hacer y recordar.
Antes de trabajar como Coordinador Regional en la
Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles, David trabajó por más de
veinte años en tres parroquias. David, estudió en la

En la vida cotidiana nos abrumamos de las cosas que
TENEMOS QUE HACER, que facilmente se nos va el día tan
ocupados que nuestra vida Espiritual de Oración llega a
ocupar un segundo lugar. ¿Te ha pasado algo así? En este
tiempo juntos, los invito a reflexionar en cómo vivimos
nuestra vida diaria, de qué personas nos rodeamos, de
qué cosas nos saturamos, y cómo podemos vivir
despojados de todo aquello que nos impide estar más
cerca de Jesús caminando en sus sandalias, es decir con
humildad y simplicidad. Habrá imágenes y reflexiones
desde los lugares santos en mi reciente visita a la tierra
santa.

comunidades. En este taller hablaremos sobre lo que es

a expresar lo que es ser católico en el mundo de hoy.
Padre César Magallón-Bernal. Nació el 16 de Enero de
1977. Originario de Uruapan, Michoacán - México. Inició
sus estudios en el seminario a los 15 años en Michoacán
y Jalisco, de 1992-1998. Emigró a los U.S.A. para
continuar su formación teológica en el Seminario de San
Juan en Camarillo, CA en 1999.Después de un arduo
discernimiento en su vocación y experiencia ministerial
en la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles, fue ordenado como
Diácono Transicional en Noviembre del 2012 y
consecutivamente al Orden Sagrado Sacerdotal el 1 de
Junio del 2013 Su primer asignación como Pastor
Asociado es en la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de
Guadalupe y Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores
en Santa Barbara, CA donde radica actualmente.
Ida Miranda es autora y, conferencista nacional y
regional en el campo de la catequesis. Obtuvo su
Maestría en Educación Religiosa, Mount St. Mary’s
College, Los Ángeles, y su certificado en el Estudio
Pastoral Hispano, Loyola Marymount University. Es
Maestra Catequista para la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles.
Colaboró con la Universidad de Dayton, Ohio y la
Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles diseñando y facilitando
cursos virtuales de aprendizaje en la formación de la fe
en español. Ida fue Directora de Educación Religiosa por

Father Vega is currently the pastor of St. Frances of
Rome in Azusa. He has been a presenter for the
Archdioceses of Los Angeles and Chicago in Liturgy and
Catechesis. Fr. Vega in addition to his service at the
archdiocesan and parish level, he has also served the
Church at the national level with service to North
American FORUM on the Catechumenate and National
Federation of Priests' Councils.

El ciclo de planificación ministerial
Este taller te ofrece un entendimiento teórico y práctico
del ciclo de planificación ministerial. Es un método
sistemático de organizar la pastoral a través de nueve
pasos. Esto te ayudara a administrar con acción y
contemplación eventos como vigilias, retiros, congresos,
asambleas, y mucho más. Este taller puede servir de
mucho a los equipos de liderazgo y servicio de los
diferentes ministerios para adultos y jóvenes adultos.
Memo Rodriguez es un Diácono Permanente en la
Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. El está actualmente
involucrado en el Ministerio Hispano en la parroquia de
San Pascual Baylon en Thousand Oaks. Ha participado
en ministerios como Justicia Restaurativa, Grupos
Juveniles, RICA, Educación Religiosa, la Renovación
Carismática y el Consejo Interreligioso. Memo y su
esposa Liliana son Facilitadores del Tercer Año de
Candidatura para el Programa de Formación para el
Diaconado Permanente en la Arquidiócesis de Los
Angeles. Memo trabaja como Arquitecto de
Aplicaciones de Software en Westlake Village. El vive en
Thousand Oaks con su esposa y sus tres hijos

de San Juan. Ernesto escribió su tesina de licenciatura
sobre la Lectura simbólica de la imagen de la Virgen de
Guadalupe. Fue maestro de una escuela preparatoria en
Los Angeles y estudio pedagogía en CSULA. Ernesto
también obtuvo una maestría en Psicoterapia Familiar y
de Parejas de la Universidad de Loyola Marymount

¿Quién Soy?
En nuestro llamado del Señor, a ser Catequistas somos
llamados a servir a todos los niños. ¿Que sucede cuando
llega a nuestra clase un niño/a excepcional, aquel que
tiene necesidades especiales? Esta situación nos
convierte automáticamente en catequistas
excepcionales. Este taller le mostrara como usted puede
ser una catequista excepcional y recibir ese llamado de
Nuestro Señor.
¿Cuántas veces nos hemos hecho esa pregunta? En
nuestra juventud, particularmente en nuestra
adolescencia. Y entiendo que como líderes y servidores
tendríamos que tener la respuesta a esa pregunta bien
clara. En este taller hablaremos de eso, contestaremos
esa pregunta y concretamente de los distintos
temperamentos que tiene el ser humano. Esto me
ayudará a mejorar mis relaciones especialmente con mi
esposo (a) y me ayudará a ser mejor líder o servidor en mi
comunidad. Al final seremos capaces de identificar cual es
mi temperamento y de las personas que dirijo.
Jennifer Ayon ha servido como Catequista de Educación
Religiosa por 10 años primero con niños y despues como
instructora de Confirmación. Jennifer recibió una
Maestría de Ciencias en Consejería y un Bachillerato de
Ciencias en Servicios de Rehabilitación; su énfasis es en
ayudar a personas con discapacidades a lograr sus
metas personales, sociales y vocacionales. Actualmente
ella es una Maestra Catequista para la Arquidiócesis de
Los Ángeles.
Luis Díaz es creador del programa social “Emoción
Activa” el cual ofrece una serie de talleres informativos a
cerca de problemas sociales como la violencia en las
pandillas, la drogadicción y la violencia doméstica entre
otros. Nacido en Puerto Rico posee un bachillerato en
Comunicación de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en
Arecibo. Fue coordinador del grupo de jóvenes Génesis
en Puerto Rico y ha trabajado con jóvenes con
problemas relacionados a las drogas. Fue redactor y
reportero interno de Univisión Radio en Puerto Rico y
productor del segmento Conocedores del programa
radial Frecuencia Alterna. Es conferencista de la
arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles en los distintos congresos
de educación religiosa.

En el proceso del perdón, muchas personas descubren
que perdonarse a sí mismos es algo difícil, por lo tanto
seguiremos unos pasos que nos guiaran hacia el autoperdón, ya que el perdón no es un sentimiento, es una

centros bíblicos para la Arquidiócesis de LA. Sirvió en el
programa RICA en la Igl. St. F.X. Cabrini en LA.
Actualmente colabora en la coordinación de Asambleas
de Fe y Vida, clases Pre-bautismales en San A. de
Padua, en Gardena, fue subcoordinadora del Instituto
de Pastoral y Evangelización de la Región de Nuestra
Sra. de LA.

La encarnación y personificación como pedagogía. En este
taller haremos una reflexión que nos invite a reconocer
que el cuerpo humano es la materia prima y el locus por
medio del cual compartimos el mensaje de la buena
nueva de Jesucristo, y con el cual Dios alcanza, toca y
recrea al mundo y su pueblo.

Giovanni O. Perez es el Consultor de la Catequesis
Primaria para la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. Tiene
una Maestría en Estudios Religiosos y un Bachillerato en
Psicología, además de ser un Maestro de Catequistas.
Ha sido Director de Educación Religiosa por más de
veinte años en dos parroquias distintas de la
Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. Su experiencia ministerial
incluye trabajo con jóvenes, encarcelados,
evangelización y catequesis. Giovanni y su esposa han
criado una familia de cuatro jóvenes adultos llenos de
vida y energía.
El Espíritu Santo: Dios transforma mi vida en Su Vida
Si Jesucristo es "Emmanuel" (Dios con nosotros), el
Espíritu Santo es Dios "dentro de" nosotros,
transformándonos desde adentro. Pero, ¿en qué o nos
transforma? En este taller contemplaremos la obra del
Espírtu Santo en el corazón del creyente y la meta final
que tiene Dios para nuestras vidas.

Siempre Serán Nuestros Hijos: Cuidado Pastoral Para
Católicos Gay y Lesbianas y Sus Padres
En esta sesión explicaremos las diferentes enseñanzas de
la Iglesia en el ministerio para Católicos gay y lesbianas
enfatizando la consejería para los padres después de que
ellos han escuchado de que su hijo o hija es gay,
lesbiana, bisexual o transexual (LGBT por sus siglas en
Ingles). Este taller está estructurado para ayudar a
catequistas y maestros a mejorar la comunicación con los
estudiantes y sus padres, la sesión se concentrará en los
documentos de Los Obispos Estadounidenses “Siempre
Serán Nuestros Hijos” (1997) y “Ministerio para
Personas con Inclinación Homosexual: Guías para el
Cuidado Pastoral” (2006).
Vive
Martha y Javier Plascencia, El ministerio con lesbianas y
gay Católicos (MLGC) reconoce que todas las personas
con una orientación homosexual son capaces de vivir
una vida Católica completa en unión con todos los
miembros de la iglesia. Este ministerio les hace un
llamado a Católicos consternados y a todas las personas
de buen corazón a aprender y a compartir los retos, las
pesadumbres y bendiciones de las personas
homosexuales que viven una vida cristiana dentro de
la tradición católica.

descubrir su fe. En este taller nos enfocaremos en ideas
practicas para ayudarles a los niños descubrir su fe y
celebrarla. Se compartirán manualidades para la sesión
de religión que le ayuden al catequista fomentar esta fe
incipiente de los niños.
Víctor es consultor bilingüe a nivel nacional de William
H. Sadlier Inc. Por más de 20 años ha estado trabajando
en el ministerio hispano. Ha sido maestro de secundaria
y ha colaborado en diversos ministerios parroquiales
incluyendo pastoral juvenil y educación religiosa, donde
tiene una gran experiencia preparando materiales.
Terminó sus estudios superiores en el seminario St.
Joseph en Mountain View, California y tiene dos años de
teología cursados en el seminario St. Patricks. También
tiene su maestría en educación religiosa de la
Universidad de San Francisco. Nació en Arizona de
padres mexicanos, ha vivido la mayor parte de su vida
en el área de la bahía. Actualmente vive en Alameda,
CA.

hoy
La espiritualidad para la persona actual es un reto ya que
en medio del ruido de la tecnología y de la cultura
consumerista y materialista, el Espíritu de Dios nos sigue
hablando, y ¿Cómo le pondremos atención? ¿Cómo
desarrollaremos una espiritualidad en medio de las
ocupaciones de la vida? Ven a aprender sobre la pausa
ignaciana, una pausa que haces durante el día para
discernir y aprender a estar atento al Espíritu Santo.
Veremos sus efectos espirituales, psicológicos y de
