Lord, I pray that I never take my
freedom for granted. May I
always remember that my
freedom was purchased at a
very high price. My freedom
cost others their very lives.
Lord, bless those who have
served and continue to give their
lives for our freedom. Meet their
needs and watch over their

WHAT’S IN YOUR HEART?
“Rejoice! Exult!” the Book of Isaiah encourages us this week. Millions of Catholic
Christians did just that when Pope Francis first emerged onto the balcony of Saint
Peter’s Basilica, largely because of his warm, genuine, and humble demeanor, his
choice of a papal name, his prayerfulness, and perhaps most of all the hope he
inspires. Joy has a lot to do with hope. What makes you joyful and hopeful?

FROM THE PASTOR
My Dear Parish Family,
I am writing this on Monday, June 27. Our first day of our Summer Intensive Religious Education program is just about complete
and I am getting ready to go over to Church for our closing talk
and prayer. It’s almost hard for me to describe the feelings I have
today. This morning, as predicted, was the chaos of First Day. The
parking lot was jammed with parents bringing their young ones to
the church. Over 500 children had to find their seats and their
teachers! It was wonderful to see what happened as we quieted
them for a prayer. The noise abated and within 5 minutes all the
kids were on their way to the classrooms for prayer, instruction,
music, activities and more. I am grateful for all the teachers, administrators and volunteers for being a part of this great endeavor.
In a few weeks, we will be introducing a new Gloria to be sung at
Mass. It is part of the Mass of Sorrento that I composed a number
of years ago. We have been singing all the other parts of the Mass
for the last few years, but haven’t as yet introduced this Gloria. I
hope you like it and join in singing God’s praises.
Monday we celebrate the Fourth of July or Independence Day.
This holiday commemorates the fact that in 1776, the Continental
Congress, representing the 13 colonies, approved the Declaration
of Independence — the first step on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. It seems fitting to revisit the most famous words
from the document; words that have guided us since that time:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain
unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and
the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form
of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the
Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute
new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and
organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most
likely to effect their Safety and Happiness
Pray for our country and the ideals on which it was founded.
And let us pray for one another, as we look to the future. God

The Catechism reminds us:
In Jesus Christ, the whole of God’s truth has
been made manifest. “Full of grace and
truth,” he came as the “light of the world,” he is the
Truth. … To follow Jesus is to live in “the Spirit of
truth,” whom the Father sends in his name and who
leads “into all the truth.” To his disciples Jesus teaches
the unconditional love of truth … (CCC 2466).
Man tends by nature toward the truth. He is obliged to
honor and bear witness to it: “It is in accordance with
their dignity that all men, because they are persons . . .
are both impelled by their nature and bound by a moral
obligation to seek the truth, especially religious truth.
They are also bound to adhere to the truth once they
come to know it and direct their whole lives in accordance with the demands of truth (CCC 2467).”

COUNSELING SERVICES
Through a joint effort of the Diocese of
Trenton and Catholic Charities, licensed
professional counselors are available to help
parishioners with difficult issues such as bereavement, marital and family problems,
elder care, stress of job loss. The service can
be accessed by contacting the Parish Office
who will provide additional information and a
referral.
The fee is $75 per session. If needed, financial
assistance for this short term counseling (up
to 6 sessions) is available through the Diocese
of Trenton Parish Counseling Services.

Singles Journey is a support group for

Estimada Familia Parroquial,
Esta semana comenzamos el programa de la doctrina de verano. Más de
500 niños están participando en el programa. Le doy gracias a todos los
maestros y servidores que están ayudando y muchas bendiciones a todos.
El lunes celebramos el día de la Independencia de los Estados Unidos. En
este día conmemoramos que en el año 1776, el Congreso Continental
representado por 13 colonias, aprobó la Declaración de la Independencia –
el primer paso en el camino de la libertad como nación soberana. Las
palabras más famosas de esta “Declaración de Independencia” son:
“Sostenemos como evidentes por sí mismas dichas verdades: que todos
los hombres son creados iguales; que son dotados por su Creador de
ciertos derechos inalienables; que entre estos están la vida, la libertad y
la búsqueda de la felicidad; que para garantizar estos derechos se
instituyen entre los hombres los gobiernos, que derivan sus poderes
legítimos del consentimiento de los gobernados; que cuando quiera que
una forma de gobierno se vuelva destructora de estos principios, el
pueblo tiene derecho a reformarla o abolirla, e instituir un nuevo

El Catecismo nos recuerda:
En Jesucristo la verdad de Dios se manifestó en plenitud. “Lleno
de gracia y de verdad”, él es la “luz del mundo”, la Verdad. El
que cree en él, no permanece en las tinieblas. El discípulo de
Jesús, “permanece en su palabra”, para conocer “la verdad que hace libre”
y que santifica. Seguir a Jesús es vivir del “Espíritu de verdad” que el Padre
envía en su nombre y que conduce “a la verdad completa” Jesús enseña a
sus discípulos el amor incondicional de la verdad… (CCC2466)
El hombre busca naturalmente la verdad. Está obligado a honrarla y
atestiguarla: “Todos los hombres, conforme a su dignidad, por ser
personas, se ven impulsados, por su misma naturaleza, a buscar la
verdad y, además, tienen la obligación moral de hacerlo, sobre todo con
respecto a la verdad religiosa. Están obligados también a adherirse a la
verdad una vez que la han conocido y a ordenar toda su vida según sus
exigencias”… (CCC 2467).”

Vida de Santa María Goretti
María nació el 16 de octubre de 1890, en una
provincia de Italia, tercera de siete hermanos. De
familia pobre, pero ricos en fe y virtudes cultivado
por la oración en común, rosario diario, Misa
dominical y la Sagrada Comunión. Al día
siguiente de su nacimiento fue bautizada y consagrada a la Virgen.
A los seis años recibió el Sacramento de la Confirmación.
Al morir su padre, su madre tiene que trabajar todo el día, y Maria
cuidaba de sus hermanos, y siempre buscaba tiempo para
arrodillarse y elevar a Dios sus plegarias,. Maria siempre llevaba
alrededor de su muñeca el Santo Rosario, y contemplaba el
Crucifijo, cual era su fuente de nutrición de Dios y horror al
pecado.
Durante las comidas, no se sentaba a la mesa hasta que no había
servido a todos, ella se servía las sobras. El hijo de una familia del
pueblo que tenia 16 años comenzó a hacerle proposiciones
deshonestas a la inocente Maria. Ella al darse cuenta, comenzó a
rechazar su adulación y amenazas. El joven amenazo a Maria con
matarla si le decía a su madre. Maria se refugio en la oración.
En la víspera de su muerte, María le pide a su madre llorando que
no la deje sola, pero no le da explicaciones. Esta lo considera un
capricho y no le da importancia.
El 5 de julio, el joven espero a que Maria estuviera sola para
Agredirla. Los reproches de Maria le dieron ira y él la
arrastro por el piso, la amordaza y esgrime un puñal. María
tiembla pero no sucumbe. Furioso, el joven intenta arrancarle la
ropa, pero María se deshace de la mordaza y grita: No hagas eso,
que es pecado... Irás al infierno. Él levanta el arma y dice: Si no te
dejas, te mato. Ante aquella resistencia, le atraviesa a cuchilladas.
La niña se pone a gritar: -¡Dios mío! y cae al suelo.
María recibió catorce heridas graves y quedó inconsciente. Al
recobrar el conocimiento, le dijo a su madre que el agresivo era el
joven Alessandro.
En el hospital, María no se lamenta, no dejaba de rezar y de
ofrecer sus sufrimientos a la Santísima Virgen.
El sacerdote que estaba a su lado, en el momento de darle la
Sagrada Comunión, le preguntó: -María, ¿perdonas de todo
corazón a tu asesino? Ella respondió: Sí, lo perdono por el amor
de Jesús, y quiero que él también venga conmigo al paraíso.
Quiero que esté a mi lado... Que Dios lo perdone, porque yo ya lo
he perdonado.
Maria recibió la Eucaristía, y dijo “Papa”. Murió el 6 de julio de
1902.
