care, to serve one another in times of need and to share in the

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT OF
THE WEEK
“For God so loved the world that He
gave His only Son…” John 3:16
Is your love conditional? Is there a price
others have to pay to receive your love?
Are you generous with your time, money
and possessions? If you give someone
something, do you expect something in
return? Do you give your time freely or
do you “fit it in” when it’s convenient for
you?

“Recognizing the Divine Presence
 Within ourselves,
 Within others,
 Drawing us to love,
 Uniting us as the Body of Christ.”
From the Pastor
To the parish family of St. Martha,
As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, we center our attention on God who has chosen to
share his divine intimacy with us human beings. One of the forces that gave shape to the Hebrew people in
the Old Testament was the strong sense of their unique relationship with God. Unlike the pagan religions that existed
around them, the worship of the Jewish people was a free response to a God who had revealed himself by drawing close
to the people. Ever so gradually the people of Israel began to realize that at the heart of their uniqueness lay the fact
that they did not have to guess about the existence of their God or about their relationship with God. Their God began
to reveal himself to them through mighty acts, through saving events, and through the teaching of the patriarchs and
prophets. The people began to formulate their understanding of their God and in essence proclaimed, “Our God is a
God who speaks and makes himself known to us!” And this special revelation gave rise to something else quite unique
for the Hebrew people: a bond and relationship between God and his people that no other people had ever experienced.
God entered a solemn covenant with Israel, a bond based upon trust, truth, and loving affection. God said to them, “I
will be your God and you will be my people.”
However this wonderful insight was only a preparatory step for an even greater revelation that is announced in today’s
Gospel account: “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not
perish but might have eternal life.” And it would be the Son, Jesus Christ, who gave us the fullness of the revelation
about the very interior life of God we are invited to share. The Church has come to call this revelation the mystery of
the Holy Trinity. Thr ough the pr ayer and r eflection on the Scr iptur es by the ear ly ecumenical councils and the
Fathers, the Church arrived at the creedal statement about the God of revelation: there are three persons in one nature.
While these words (chosen from Greek philosophy) do help in our attempt to understand this important truth of revelation, this formula still does not lay open for us the full mystery of the Trinity. It might be more accurate to say that we
believe that our God is something like three persons in one divine nature. But the inadequacy of human
language really does not matter. The truth of revelation is that the constant flow of divine life and love
that makes up the inner nature of God is not a closed circle. It has broken open in Jesus Christ and now
all humanity has been invited into intimacy with God. We are not just God’s creatures. We are the
adopted children of God and we shar e in God’s ver y own life!

COLLECTION—FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI
On the Feast of Corpus Christi (Sunday, June 22) the total offertory in every parish of the archdiocese is dedicated to the
support of those studying for the priesthood. For 2014-2015 over a million dollars is needed from this collection to support our seminarians studying for the priesthood. To achieve this goal, Archbishop DiNardo requests that you double the
amount of your regular church support for the weekend of June 21-22. If each contributor will do this, the needed subsidy will be met by this collection. In gratitude for the incomparable gift of the Holy Eucharist which is inseparably joined
to the priesthood, please do your part to help the archdiocese provide priests for the sake of your future by praying daily
for vocations and supporting this collection.

ST. MARTHA'S ANNUAL NFP CLASS
Married and engaged couples are excited and are registering to
attend St. Martha's Annual NFP class taught by parishioners Chris
and Marion Dickson! If you are curious about this beautiful way to
live out God's call in marriage, please join us to see what it is all
about!! Our first of three classes begins on Sunday, June 22nd, and
childcare is provided if there is a need.
Important for you to know: this is not the rhythm method. The
Standard Sympto-Thermal Method, based on over 50 years of research primarily by Austrian doctor Dr. Josef Roetzer, is scientific
and upholds the church's sacred view of marriage and family. This
method is safe and healthy, effective for planning a family
(including for couples with low fertility), for postponing pregnancy,
and is morally correct.
Did you know that our Archdiocese is offering Natural Family Planning courses throughout the year in varying parishes? If the scheduled times below don't work with your schedule, please see the fabulous website on NFP recently launched by our Archdiocese to find a
class time and date that works for you. The website also contains
information on married love, infertility and NFP, and medical research: www.nfpst.org.
Details:
 The course consists of three classes, each taken in chronological
order, and is on the Standard Sympto-Thermal Method type of
NFP.
 Class dates for the course are the following Sundays from 2:00 4:00 pm in Room 2 at the Woodland Hills Campus: June 22nd,
July 20th, and August 24th.
 The cost for the entire course is $60.00, which covers the cost of
the course and materials. If there is an issue with the cost,
please let us know.
 Registration with St. Martha Parishioners and Certified S.S.T.
Instructors, Christopher and Marion Dickson, is completed
through e-mail, with SST Registration in the Subject Heading:
[email protected].
 We welcome all who are interested, especially those preparing
for marriage and those who are married, and are ready to learn
more about this sacred and scientific offering of Natural Family
Planning!

Ministerio Hispano

No

Freedom to Serve
The Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom to
Serve will take place from June 21 to July 4, 2014, a time when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs
who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power—St. Thomas
More and St. John Fisher, St. John the
Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First
Martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme
of this year's Fortnight will focus on the
freedom to serve the poor and vulnerable
in accord with human dignity and the
Church's teaching.
Please visit www.fortnight4freedpm.org for
more information on this important time of
prayer, education, and action in support of
religious freedom!
St. Joseph Helpers are available to help parishioners who are in need of assistance with home repairs or building projects such as wheelchair ramps,
etc. For more information contact Bill Beck, 281-360

others facing cancer. If you (or someone close to you) have been diagnosed
with cancer and would like to talk to someone, CanCare can match you with
a cancer survivor or caregiver for one-on-one emotional support. Founded in
1990, CanCare is now partnered with over 100 congregations of varied faiths,
hospitals and corporations. All services are confidential and without charge.
You may visit the website at www.cancare.org, or call CanCare direct at 713461-0028 (please mention you are a member of St. Martha Catholic
Church). Or you can contact the St. Martha CanCare coordinator, Roger

CHALICE
FOR
VOCATIONS

CURTIS FAMILY
in prayer this week
as they host the Chalice and pray for
Vocations.
Interested? Please contact Albert
Holden at 713-292-6066 or by e-mail
at [email protected] to
schedule a week.
We are in need of volunteers to assist with the sound board ministry, par ticular ly for Sunday
7:00 Mass, but also for other Masses as well (2-3 volunteers for each Mass is ideal to allow
for vacations and other scheduling issues).
Please contact Bill Phillips at 713-419-9277 (cell) if you are interested.
Some working knowledge of sound systems is helpful but not a requirement.
Kingwood Mobility Study: If you were not able to attend the Kingwood Mobility Public Meeting on May
13th it’s not too late to voice your mobility concerns. The Kingwood Mobility Steering Committee and Gunda
Team have placed an online survey to send in comments. They are seeking input from the Kingwood Community for traffic problem areas and future traffic solutions to Kingwood traffic problems. This would be a great
place to indicate your desire for a traffic light at the entrance to Woodridge Parkway at Northpark Drive.
The survey website is: www.surveymonkey.com/s/kingwoodmobility
Surveys will be accepted until June 30, 2014.
The Kingwood Mobility website: http://gundacorp.com/kingwood-mobility will continue to stay up and be updated as
new information is made available through the duration of the study, which is at least to the end of this calendar year.
Comments can be e-mailed to [email protected] .
On June 8th, three of our fellow parishioners began their 40 day, 500 mile pilgrimage to The Camino de Santiago in Spain.
For thousands of others who have taken this pilgrimage over the past centuries it
has turned out to be a faith-filled and extremely spiritual journey. Donna Rueby, Sandie Taylor, and Krista Rueby have
decided not only to follow the footsteps of St. James as he spread the Word of the Gospel; but they have also decided to
walk their journey for another cause, to serve the Church by raising funds in support of vocations. A fundraiser has been
established in support of initiatives for the newly formed local Chapter of The Serra Club.
As you may have read over the past several months, The Serra Club Northeast of Houston is new to St. Martha with the
official Charter scheduled for July 19, 2014. The Serra Club’s mission is to promote and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The fundraiser is entitled “A Walk for Vocations”. As the ladies make this journey they will be
asking God for help by sending us holy men and women willing to serve as priests, religious, and deacons. All proceeds
from this fundraiser will go towards the initiatives of the club. All donations are tax deductible and any amount will be
greatly appreciated. With your help, these Pilgrims hope to raise $10,000 for the newly formed Serra Club!
Visit their website and walk with them on their 40 day Spiritual journey

ITALY PILGRIMAGE WITH ST. MARTHA CATHOLIC CHURCH
Sept. 28 thru Oct. 6, 2014
Join Msgr. Borski and other pilgrims from the Archdiocese on a Pilgrimage to the Eternal City for the
Ordination to the Diaconate of our very own Seminarian, Mr. David Angelino. We will experience
many of the beauties and antiquities of ROME, including its awe inspiring churches such as St. Peter's
Basilica, the Scavi Excavations where we find the bones of St. Peter, and the hillside town of Assisi.
We will be privileged to participate in the Pontifical North American College’s 2014 Diaconate Ordinations. This promises to be a blessed event that will bring us great joy and fond memories. Other highlights of the pilgrimage include visits to the Vatican Museums, a Wednesday audience with Pope Francis, a visit to the Pontifical North
American College, and a walk through Ancient Rome.
