From the Pastor’s Desk
The first Sunday must have been very difficult for the apostles. They had given up three years of their lives to follow
the man they believed to be the Messiah, only to watch him
be crucified and buried. All seemed lost. By fixating on the
events of Good Friday, they had great difficulty understanding the message of resurrection at first. But their eyes
and hearts were opened when Jesus spoke their names,
ate with them, and breathed on them his gift of peace. From this moment, they
were empowered and infused with a new courage and enthusiasm. With the
gift of the Holy Spirit, they became powerful witnesses of the message of hope
and new life. As we rejoice in the glory and power of the Resurrection, we
come to realize that the victory of Christ over sin and death can likewise be
ours. Let us live this Easter Day with faith and conviction, and then we will
share forever in the fullness of Christ’s resurrection.

Are you an adult Catholic who attends
Mass very Sunday and has received
your First Communion, but has never
received Confirmation? Many Catholics
are unaware that they must have received all three Sacraments of
Initiation in order to serve as a godparent or sponsor, and are deeply disappointed when they apply to sponsor a nephew or niece only
to find out they do not qualify. Adults have only two opportunities
each year to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, -the Easter
Vigil and the Solemnity of the Pentecost. Although it is too late to
be added to the Easter Vigil List, you can still be prepared in time
for Pentecost, May 27. Please act now! A new set of Adult PreSacrament classes will begin mid-April. This six-week program

English Bible Study
Make your participation at Mass more
meaningful by reading and discussing the day’s readings with others. You do not have to come every week to benefit or “keep up.”
No preparation or background study is needed. We meet every
Sunday, 9:15 – 10:45 am, between the 7:30 and 11:00 am Masses,
in the Family Life Center (Adult Faith Formation Room). Led by
Deacon Roger and Ms. Marilyn Gette.
Adult Faith Enrichment (in English) ~ History of the Catholic
Church. Rediscover the difference Christianity has made in the
course of history. We will examine the diverse challenges the
Church has faced during its nearly 2,000 year history, and consider
ways in which our history can help us respond to the challenges
Catholics face today. Dates: The second Saturday of each month,
9:30 – 11:30am in the Family Life Center. Final class for the year:
April 14. Topic: The Church in Modern Times. To participate, call
the Office of Adult Faith Formation (972-259-1832 ext.238), or just
come to the class!
Parents of CCD Students – All parents of religious education students are required to attend one year of adult faith classes. Classes
are conducted in English and Spanish. The final class in English
will be Saturday, April 14, 9:30 – 11:30am (Family Life Center,

Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA/RICA) – –We are coming
to the end of our RCIA year! A new cycle of classes will begin in
June; if you have a friend who has expressed curiosity about what it
means to be Catholic, offer to accompany them to these classes.
Our final three classes explore different aspects of living a Catholic
life. Our topic for this week, April 12, will be the Precepts of the

THE PASTORAL VISITS
During his third pastoral visit the Bishop stopped for four days on the Penna
Mountain (5200 feet) "comforting with his word and works of charity" the 300
workers who, in conditions of extreme poverty, were working there nine
months a year gathering wood to make coal out of it. In the factory of Cav.
Enrico de Thierry a miracle took place a Protestant will convert to the
Catholic Faith through the message of Scalabrini. It was 1902. During the
summer Bishop Scalabrini was there on a pastoral visit. There a fire broke out
in the desiccator of the plant for the distillation of wood belonging to the
Gandiani, Girardi and Berni Company. There was great fear among the
townsfolk gathered at the fire when the church bells and the factory siren
sounded the alarm because they were afraid the fire would also engulf other
warehouses in the vicinity. There was another danger: nearby were also the
storage tanks of alcohol obtained from the distillation of the wood. Cav.
Thierry, administrative director of the company, was informed. Now, that very
evening the Cavaliere had hosted the Bishop. As soon as he learned of the
disaster, the Bishop ran to the factory, where the workers had already
assembled, helpless to control the fire. He prayed and made the people pray
and then blessed the fire. At once, to everybody's amazement not only did the
flames die out, but, after a half hour, everyone went back to work. We must
remember there had been much material on fire which obeyed the Bishop's
command to die out.
At once the story of the miracle spread far and wide like wildfire.

and more than 3.5 million children ages 14 and under are treated for
sports injuries.***

Please keep these safety tips in mind to keep children safe when playing a
sport or participating in any type of physical activity outdoors:
Our parish will be hosting the Divine Mercy pilgrimage on Sunday April 15, 2012.
There will be transportation provided from St. James to Blessed
Sacrament from 1:00pm-2:30pm from where the pilgrimage will
start. We will leave Blessed Sacrament at 2:45pm and will walk
to St. James. Confessions will be at St. James from 5:00pm6:00pm followed by the Mass of the Feast of the Divine Mercy.
Make sure children always wear appropriate protective gear for the activity.
Make sure responsible adults know and enforce the safety rules of the sport,
are present to provide supervision, and are trained in first aid and CPR.
Have children wear SPF 15 or higher sunscreen.
Make sure children STAY HYDRATED - Children can easily become dehydrated while playing a sport or participating in any type of physical activity.
Dehydration can make a child more susceptible to a heat-related illness, such
as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke.

View Lane. The cost is $13.00 per person. Tickets will be available at the next
Altar Society meeting on Thursday April 12, 2012. If possible try to purchase
your tickets in advance so we will have a good headcount. For tickets or any
