Their garlic bread is “muy bueno”. . . . by Don Robertson When was the last time you drove down a street in Parkglen West and didn’t see a mailbox? Never, right? You may drive by a house and not look at it, but the mailbox is right there by the street standing all alone and very easy to see. There are dozens of them on each street and hundreds of them in the community. Many look very attractive - strong, straight, well kept, and painted with colors that match the house. They work well and add to the appearance of the neighborhood. It’s so attractive that it adds value to your house and those around you. Does this sound like a description of your mailbox ???? If not, you need to get to work on it. Unfortunately, we do have a good number of mailboxes that look like nobody takes care of them. Many mailbox posts are leaning like this /, as if they’re always in the middle of a hurricane! But there’s no wind blowing. Some have skinny metal legs that look like this >. You know, as if they went skiing and broke a leg or two. And some have patched up poles with extra boards nailed to the broken post. This is not what our streets or our community should look like. One of my neighbors just finished building a new mailbox from top to bottom. It’s beautiful and it makes the whole street seem so much more professionally manicured. I told him how much I appreciate the way it looks. It’s a great addition to our street. The cost to change a dumpy looking mailbox into an attractive feature is usually very low. You’ll get a great return on investment with a beautiful mailbox. I hope everyone will look at the mailboxes when you drive home tomorrow afternoon, and be sure to look at your own to see how you can straighten it, strengthen it, change it if it’s too beaten up, put a new neutralcolor paint job on it, or paint that matches your house. Add some flowers or plants in a garden bed around it, add pavestones around the post, or do a number of other things that will make it an attractive and wellmaintained addition to your house, your street, and your community. Thank you, Buy 1 pizza- get the 2nd pizza at 1/2 OFF 4 Parkglen West has Deed Restriction No. 14 that clearly states the following . . . No lot shall be used for business, commercial, professional, warehousing, or manufacturing purposes of any kind whether for profit or not. Only two (2) garage sales per year are permitted. More than two are considered to be a business for profit and no new merchandise will be permitted to be sold. We have homeowners that have weekly, biweekly or monthly garage sales. Please be warned that TWO GARAGE SALES PER HOME PER YEAR IS THE LIMIT UNDER TEXAS LAW, and Parkglen West will take LEGAL ACTION -- including having a Constable come to your home to shut down a garage sale in progress -- against any homeowner who violates this law in the subdivision. Also note for future reference that it is illegal to buy and then re-sell merchandise from your home, under the guise of a garage sale. Doing this will result -- in addition to LEGAL ACTION by Parkglen West -- in your being reported to the State Controller, and your property may be seized for taxes due. Sonido Madness Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. Parkglen West Civic Association 20 Ways to Maintain A Healthy Level Of Insanity. . . DJ’s . . . Our heavy trash schedule was changed by the City of Houston from Thursday to the first Monday of the month. This coincides with the recycling schedule that has also changed to every other week on Mondays, beginning Monday, July 29. Your HOA will be putting out signs that inform you of the type of heavy trash that is to be put out. “TREES ONLY” or “JUNK ONLY”. DO NOT MIX THE TWO or it will sit there for months! Have enough pride in your property to not put out toilets when it should be trees. Those few that do not pay attention, hurt the rest of us that try to keep our properties clean. Moving? Down Sizing?
