Dr. Dick van der Vaart becomes Honorary Member of BONHATA
Last Thursday April 10th, board members, members, staff of Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association
and invitees gathered at the Recompression Chamber for the first Member Social of the 2nd Quarter.
Eric Gietman, President of the BONHATA’s Board of Directors welcomed everyone and gave a speech on
the ambitions he has as the new President of BONHATA and the importance of the existing partnership
with the Tourism Corporation Bonaire. The bond between these two organizations is of great
importance for the development of a sustainable tourism industry on Bonaire.
Dr. Dick van der Vaart is internationally recognized and awarded for his work and commitment to diving
medicine as well as his local pioneering work in hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The BONHATA membership
recognizes and awards Dr. Dick van der Vaart as honorary member because of these achievements.
Tours were given of the facility and the recompression chamber to provide more information on the
work that Dr. van der Vaart and the chamber team have been doing for the Foundation Recompression
Chamber Bonaire for the last 28 years.
Throughout the evening the 2014 Bonaire Culinary Team served some delectable snacks and welcome
drinks in preparation for their participation at the Taste of the Caribbean 2014 competition. They surely
have a winning chance from all the positive reactions they have received during this wonderful evening.
Eric Gietman states “BONHATA is progressing and ready for the future. A priority for BONHATA is
creating synergy and getting the community of Bonaire to work together and achieve results, being
divided and quarrelling amongst each other will not benefit us or our tourism industry which is the key
to our economy. We need to work together in the industry, knowing and respecting our differences,
with only one goal and that is to develop our tourism in a truly sustainable way.”
BONHATA calls upon all the organizations in tourism, private and public, to join forces and make Bonaire
the most sustainable destination in the Caribbean.
The president of the Board continues “the Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association has been working on
development of tourism for more than 33 years, and will continue to do so. Where possible we will lead,
if necessary we will follow but we will never get out of the way.”
BONHATA strongly believes that a difference can be made on Bonaire. We can benefit more from the
numerous possibilities that tourism has for our economy, which is the key to our future.

Dr. Dick van der Vaart erkend als erelid van BONHATA
Afgelopen donderdag 10 april , waren bestuursleden , leden, medewerkers van Bonaire Hotel and
Tourism Association en genodigden bij de recompressiekamer voor de eerste member social van het
2e kwartaal van dit jaar.
Eric Gietman,de voorzitter van het bestuur van BONHATA heette iedereen welkom en hield een
toespraak over de ambities die hij heeft als de nieuwe voorzitter van BONHATA en het belang van de
bestaande partnerschap tussen BONHATA en de Tourism Corporation Bonaire. De band tussen deze
twee organisaties is van groot belang voor de ontwikkeling van een duurzame toerisme industrie op
Bonaire.
Dr. Dick van der Vaart is internationaal erkend en bekroond voor zijn inzet en zijn werk in
duikgeneeskunde evenals zijn baanbrekende werk op Bonaire in de hyperbare zuurstoftherapie . De
leden van BONHATA erkennen Dr. Dick van der Vaart als erelid vanwege deze prestaties.
Rondleidingen van de faciliteit en de recompressiekamer werden gegeven aan de aanwezigen, zodat zij
meer informatie van het werk dat Dr. van der Vaart en zijn team konden krijgen. De werkzaamheden bij
de Stichting Recompressiekamer Bonaire worden al 28 jaar gedaan. Gedurende de avond heeft de
Bonaire Culinary Team 2014 een aantal heerlijke hapjes en welkomstdrankjes geserveerd in
voorbereiding op hun deelname aan de 2014 Taste of the Caribbean competitie. Ze hebben zeker een
winnende kans gezien alle positieve reacties die zij hebben gekregen tijdens deze prachtige avond.
Eric Gietman stelt “BONHATA vordert en is klaar voor de toekomst . Een prioriteit voor BONHATA is het
creëren van synergie en het samen krijgenvan de gemeenschap van Bonaire om gezamelijk te werken
aan het behalen van resultaten, disharmonie en ruzie onder elkaar zullen niet bijdragen aan ons en onze
toeristische industrie, wat de belangrijkste pilaar is van onze economie. We moeten samenwerken in de
industrie, onze verschillen erkennen en respecteren, om gezamenlijk ons voornaamste doel te bereiken,
een duurzame ontwikkeling van ons toerisme.” BONHATA roept alle organisaties in het toerisme ,
private en publieke sector , op om onze krachten te bundelen om Bonaire de meest duurzame
bestemming in het Caribisch gebied te maken.
Verder vervolgt de voorzitter van BONHATA “de Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association werkt almeer
dan 33 jaar aan de ontwikkeling van het toerisme en zal dat blijven doen. Waar mogelijk zullen wij leiden
, indien nodig zullen wij volgen maar wij zullen nooit uit de weg stappen.”
BONHATA is ervan overtuigd dat een verschil gemaakt kan worden op Bonaire . We kunnen meer
profiteren van de vele mogelijkheden die het toerisme onze economie biedt , het is de sleutel naar de
toekomst van Bonaire.
