Philosophy St. Stephen’s Catholic School integrates faith with academics to prepare students to make solid Christian choices. It is an accredited, private school, comprised of pre-school, elementary, and middle school levels. Faith: As a vital part of the parish community, we educate students in a Catholic atmosphere enriched by the Gospel messages of peace and justice. The spiritual development of students is the primary goal. The school recognizes that a person's faith is formed by living out that faith in community through prayer, worship, service and study; and grounded in our Catholic tradition. Academics: In partnership with their family, each student is encouraged and directed to reach his or her potential. Our academic program emphasizes mastery of the basics, academic excellence, and a variety of extracurricular activities. The school prepares students to be fully equipped for their next level of academic achievement. Community: The school seeks to provide a safe and trusting learning environment where each student is valued and challenged to grow spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically. www.ststephenschool.org 5 Pastoral Care U.S. Bishops’ Website Provides Helpful Resources Please Pray for... I would encourage those of you who use the internet to take a little time to look at and perhaps bookmark this site. One of the resources currently being used by the Peace and Justice Committee is in the section under Issues and Action. It is a document called Faithful Citizenship. “This statement represents our guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our democracy.” The full title of the document is Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. “This version draws on the wealth of papal teaching since the 2007 version…such as the later magisterium of Pope Benedict XVI and that of Pope Francis to date.” Another good resource here, among many, is the section found as Today’s Reading under Bible. You can listen to the reading or read it online. On many days one can also listen to a reflection. There are also many prayer resources – take a look. Grief Series to Begin in February Growing through Loss is a grief series that provides an opportunity for individuals to obtain information and support for a variety of grief and loss issues. The spring series will take place on Thursdays, February 18-March 24. Each session has a speaker on a particular topic, followed by a brief hospitality break, and then an opportunity to share in small groups (led by facilitators) according to the loss one has experienced. One can come just to listen to the speakers if that is preferred. It is not necessary to register ahead of time. The sessions are sponsored by a Coalition of Churches, including St. Stephen’s. This series will take place at Faith Lutheran Church, 11115 Hanson Blvd., NW, Coon Rapids, 55433. Registration is at 6:45 p.m., Speaker: 7:00-7:45, and small group sharing: 8:00-9:00 each evening. Brochures with more detail, including each evening’s topic, are available in the office at St. Stephen’s. For more information, contact Sister Mary Anne at the parish office. Be Renewed By God's Mercy Pope Francis said, "Let's not forget that God forgives and God forgives always." Estas obras corporales son precisamente lo que los 17 Ministerios Colectivos de La Arquidiócesis realizan.
