A Walk Through the Mardi Gras Gala!
• Doors open at 5:15 p.m. First stop is the Welcome Table to pick up beads and bid card. Preauthorize a credit
card for this one night and speed up checkout at the end of the night.
• The FCC, Gathering Space and hallways have been transformed. St. Stephen’s Brass Band sets the mood with
New Orleans tunes. Select a beverage to enjoy on the way to buy a chance for the charming new game.
• Purchase a festive necklace to be part of the Heads or Tails Game for a $500 cash prize.
• Before the Live Auction begins, the winner of the Best of the Live Raffle will be drawn. Choose your prize: the
40” Smart TV, Double Strand Pearl Necklace with diamond accents, the nine set LEGO collection, the Green
Mountain Pellet Grill, or the Poly Lumber Glider.
• Stroll down the Silent Auction hall and start the bidding.
• Each grade level of art classes at St. Stephen’s School created a charming,
one of a kind décor item and a theme basket.
• The Silent Auction items include original, unique rosaries, paintings,
stained glass and hand blown glass by local artists; plus many more items.
• Bid on men’s items on the way to Rex’s Refuge to taste Craft Beers or
Scotch and check Super Bowl pregame shows.
• Choose some props and visit the free Photo Booth for a picture to remember the event!
• The Hurricane Auction starts in FCC 1 at 6:15 p.m. Karen Sorbo, our auctioneer, will watch over the live
bidding on ten unique items while St. Stephen’s School teachers scribe the fast and furious bidding.
• At approximately 7:00 p.m., it’s time to be served a delicious dinner. Our dessert is a special Lenten only delicacy.
• This year’s theme is “The Saints Go Marching In” – each elegantly set table is named after a saint. Emcee
Fr. Kevin Manthey is dressed for the occasion.
• During the dinner, check and increase Silent Auction bids.
• At approximately 9:00 p.m., it’s time for the Live Auction. Hold bid numbers up high to bid. Trips, sporting
tickets, home and car improvements, and some things just for fun, starting with a special item from Fr. Jack
and ending with the opportunity to help fund two special unbudgeted need items – new drinking fountains
for the school, and an addition to the upcoming sacristy remodeling with a face lift of the Saints alcove as
well as new votive lights! Parishioners not attending can donate at the Mardi Gras table after weekend Masses.
• Sit back and relax or dance to a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Friends. After the show, pick up your invoice and
take it to the cashier room. Preauthorized credit card holders go right to the auction pick up area when the
invoices are done and skip the cashier room.
• Tickets for Mardi Gras available in the parish office and after weekend Masses. Don’t miss out on the fun!

2016 Catholic Services Appeal
The 2016 Catholic Services Appeal has begun! In this Year of Mercy, we
should remember Jesus taught us the Corporal Works of Mercy: feed the
hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless,
visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead. These Corporal
Works of Mercy are precisely what the 17 Collective Ministries of the
Archdiocese accomplish.
Please visit CSAF’s new website: csafspm.org to learn more about the
over 200 programs of the Ministries and the many thousand in need
who are served.

Education. Come join our family
of believers. All are welcome! To
enroll, please call the school office at 763-421-3236.
Mission Statement
St. Stephen’s Catholic School is a
caring Christian community that
nourishes spiritual development
and academic excellence.
Philosophy
St. Stephen’s Catholic School integrates
faith with academics to prepare students
to make solid Christian choices. It is an
accredited, private school, comprised
of pre-school, elementary, and middle
school levels.
Faith: As a vital part of the parish
community, we educate students in a
Catholic atmosphere enriched by the
Gospel messages of peace and justice.
The spiritual development of students is
the primary goal. The school recognizes
that a person's faith is formed by living
out that faith in community through
prayer, worship, service and study; and
grounded in our Catholic tradition.
Academics: In partnership with their
family, each student is encouraged and
directed to reach his or her potential.
Our academic program emphasizes mastery of the basics, academic excellence,
and a variety of extracurricular activities.
The school prepares students to be fully
equipped for their next level of academic
achievement.
Community: The school seeks to provide
a safe and trusting learning environment
where each student is valued and challenged to grow spiritually, academically,
emotionally, socially, and physically.

On the U.S. Bishops website (http://usccb.org/) there are many resources. I would encourage those of you who use the internet to take a little
time to look at and perhaps bookmark this site.
One of the resources currently being used by the Peace and Justice
Committee is in the section under Issues and Action. It is a document
called Faithful Citizenship. “This statement represents our guidance for
Catholics in the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our
democracy.” The full title of the document is Forming Consciences for
Faithful Citizenship. “This version draws on the wealth of papal teaching
since the 2007 version…such as the later magisterium of Pope Benedict
XVI and that of Pope Francis to date.”
Another good resource here, among many, is the section found as Today’s Reading under Bible. You can listen to the reading or read it online.
On many days one can also listen to a reflection.
There are also many prayer resources – take a look.
Grief Series to Begin in February
Growing through Loss is a grief series that provides an opportunity for
individuals to obtain information and support for a variety of grief and
loss issues. The spring series will take place on Thursdays, February
18-March 24. Each session has a speaker on a particular topic, followed
by a brief hospitality break, and then an opportunity to share in small
groups (led by facilitators) according to the loss one has experienced.
One can come just to listen to the speakers if that is preferred.
It is not necessary to register ahead of time. The sessions are sponsored
by a Coalition of Churches, including St. Stephen’s. This series will take
place at Faith Lutheran Church, 11115 Hanson Blvd., NW, Coon Rapids,
55433. Registration is at 6:45 p.m., Speaker: 7:00-7:45, and small group
sharing: 8:00-9:00 each evening.
Brochures with more detail, including each evening’s topic, are available
in the office at St. Stephen’s.
For more information, contact Sister Mary Anne at the parish office.
Be Renewed By God's Mercy
Pope Francis said, "Let's not forget that God forgives and God forgives
always." If you or someone you love is grieving the loss of a child or children to abortion, come and experience the healing mercy of Jesus Christ
on our weekend retreat. The next Rachel’s Vineyard Twin Cities' retreat
is February 5-7. For more information contact Nancy at [email protected], call 763-250-9313, or see www.rvineyardmn.org.
With Sympathy
The prayers and sympathy of the parish are offered to the family and
friends of James Gegen.

Stewardship
Reflection
Go, eat rich foods
and drink sweet
drinks, and allot
portions to those
who had nothing
prepared…” (Nehemiah 8:10)
Ezra’s instructions to the people show us that God does not forbid us
from enjoying the good things in life, he wants us to be happy! However, He expects us to generously share our blessings with those who
are in need, without expecting anything in return.

2016-Recaudando Fondos Para Los Servicios
Católicos
La Escuela Católica de
San Esteban
