DEFINITION
Social Worker
Sometimes, the terms disasters, emergencies and
catastrophic are used interchangeably on the
literature. During the presentation, we will use the
term emergency, being aware of the difference
among these terms

Situación imprevista o proceso social que se desencadena como resultado de la
manifestación de un fenómeno de origen natural, socio-natural o antrópico que
al encontrar condiciones propicias de vulnerabilidad en una población y en su
estructura productiva e infraestructura, causa alteraciones intensas, graves y
extendidas en las condiciones normales de funcionamiento del país, región,
zona o comunidad afectada, las cuales, en muchos casos, no pueden ser
enfrentadas o resueltas de manera autónoma utilizando los recursos disponibles
a la comunidad directamente afectada.
