No experience needed, we will train you! We need help in the following areas: We encourage you to register before the end of September to get the best price. Information can be found in this newsletter showing you how to register on line or by phone, or you can pick up a registration form at CCCR. We can also e-mail you a registration form. Notice that there will be an afternoon for priests and deacons on Friday, and a Young Adult Track and a Spanish Track on Saturday. We encourage prayer groups to make plans to come together as a group or with some member of your group. When you share a common experience like this, it helps you to grow together, and hear from the Lord insights that you can apply to your own group’s situation. We encourage everyone who has been involved with Charismatic Renewal not to miss this wonderful opportunity. Please help us to promote the conference. You will also find in this newsletter information about our Fall Teaching Series, This Is the Time of Fulfillment, with sessions on Saturdays: September 29, October 6, and November 17 at CCCR. You will learn how to live as a kingdom of God person, not under the power of darkness. We will follow the call of the National Leadership Groups for CCR to celebrate a Time of Life-Giving Repentance in 2012 in order to remove barriers that may keep us from following the call that God has given us in charismatic renewal. Also, we will discuss the Year of Faith that Pope Benedict is calling us to celebrate from October 2012 to November 2013. I (Fr. Bob) have been greatly stirred up in my prayer to believe that God is going to use this Year of Faith to disciple me in deepening my faith. God may want to do the same thing in you! It is an exciting time. It is a time of fulfillment! I hope to see you there. We want to thank people who gave us donations to replace our Risen Christ statue outside the Center that was vandalized. The statue has been ordered and should be here soon. Let me finish with a quote from Pope Benedict in the new Baptism in the Holy Spirit book from the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services, available in our bookstore. We pray with the pope that this will indeed come about! “Today I would like to extend this invitation to everyone: Let us rediscover, dear brothers and sisters, the beauty of being baptized in the Holy Spirit; let us be aware again of our baptism and confirmation, sources of grace that are always present. Let us ask the Virgin Mary to obtain a renewed Pentecost for the Church again today, a Pentecost that will spread in everyone the joy of living and witnessing to the Gospel.” Cashiering Baggers (Assisting cashiers by bagging merchandise) Greeting & Assisting Customers Floor Assistance (Keeping merchandise in order) Spanish: $30 Setting up/Taking down (packing, unpacking, arranging merchandise, pricing, moving boxes, etc.) For more details, please call me at 2267545 or email me at [email protected] Thank you and God bless you! Norma Alaniz-Administrator Kid’s Article We were at my 10 year olds football practice one night. We were surrounded by ants crawling around the ground at our feet. My 3 other kiddos and I were on Ant Watch! Julia, 5 years old, said, “Ugh, why did God make ants?” I decided to use that and said, “God wants us to be like the ants. Have you ever seen an ant standing still? Never, they are always walking, working, or scurrying. God wants us to be good workers and not lazy”. Then Abram, 8 years old, said, “Oh, that’s why! God made the ants so He could put it in Scripture!” My kids were drawing and coloring their own designs at the kitchen table. Julia, 5 years, was not happy that she couldn’t draw the “perfect” heart. Abram, 8 yrs old, said, “Julia, no one is perfect. I’m not perfect. You’re not perfect. The only perfect person is God. He’s big and perfect.” Then Julia exclaimed, “And that’s BIG!” Both sent by: Erica, San Antonio. Among those questions was: The Charisletter will include more teachings. What three topics would you like to see addressed? The overwhelming response to this question centered on the Holy Spirit. I must admit that I was among those who responded to this question with an earnest desire to know more about the Holy Spirit so that I can experience a more intimate relationship with the Holy Trinity. I have kept a notebook for several years where I have journaled my prayer time with Jesus. I ask him for help, talk to him about my problems and annoyances, and ask for guidance and help in making decisions. On October, 2010, during my prayer time, the Lord Jesus asked me to begin addressing my journal entries to the Holy Spirit instead of to Him. Jesus said to my heart, “You do not understand now what I am doing, but you will understand later.” He reminded me that “the Holy Spirit was my Helper and was left here on earth to guide me and teach me all the things that I would need to know to fulfill my purpose.” So, I began to pray to the Holy Spirit to reveal Himself to me in my daily life and I expressed to Him my desire to experience the love of the Holy Trinity in every fiber of my being. So, I set out on a journey of self discovery regarding the Holy Spirit: his attributes, character, duties, responsibilities, and His love for me. So like a good investigator, I tried to gather good and credible resource books regarding the Holy Spirit. But there were so many books and my search only resulted in me becoming overwhelmed. During my prayer time, I told the Holy Spirit, “Everyone describes you in a very personal way and writes about you from a different perspective. They are writing about you based on the truth that you have shared with them about yourself. I need you to reveal yourself to me in truth; the truth about you that you want me to hold onto in my heart as I move forward in my life doing the work of your Son.” On October 2011, I received a flyer regarding a talk with David Rittiman regarding his relationship with the Blessed Mother that would be hosted by Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in San Antonio. From the moment I got the email I knew I had to go and so I went with the grace of God. At each presentation, David Rittiman, out of the generosity of his heart, would have free material available for those who attended and he also gave a copy of a picture of the Blessed Mother from his collection to every person in attendance. I received a picture of our Lady of Guadalupe and a little red book titled Following the Holy Spirit. This book is a compilation of dialogues, prayers, and devotions intended to help everyone to know, love, and follow the Holy Spirit by Rev. Walter Van De Putte. As I began to read this book, I knew that the Holy Spirit was answering my prayers. Rev. Walter Van De Putte noted that St Augustine said, “the Holy Spirit does in the church what the soul does in the (human) body. So think of what the soul does in your body; it unifies and brings unity into the members of the body. It makes you be human, a rational being, in contrast with plants and beasts. It forms, organizes, and fosters growth. Lastly, it is the source of all the vital operations in the body.” It really touched my heart to have the Holy Spirit compared to a soul;” the soul of the Church working in us to make us in the image of Christ. As I began to read more about the Holy Spirit, I was drawn more and more to the Catechism of the Catholic Church which is “a reference book that explains Catholic doctrine regarding both faith and morals to be used by the Christian faithful with the hope that Catholics might better adhere to it and promote knowledge and application of it [in their daily lives].” For instance, the role of the Holy Spirit in fulfilling the mission of the church begins “by prepar[ing] men [and] reaching out to them with his grace in order to draw them to Christ. The spirit manifests the risen Lord to them, recalls his word to them, and opens their mind to the understanding of his death and resurrection. The Holy Spirit makes present the mystery of Christ, supremely in the Eucharist in order to reconcile them to and bring them into communion with God, that they may bear much fruit” (CCC 737). According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, some of the Holy Spirit’s duties and responsibilities in fulfilling his role to the church are as follows: 1) animates all creation; 2) awakens faith; 3) comes unceasingly into the world; 4) enables communication with Christ; 5) grants gifts to all; 6) helps man grow in spiritual freedom; 7) is the master and source of prayer; 8) the principal author of all Holy Scripture; 9) restores the divine likeness; 10) reveals God; 11) reveals the Holy Trinity; 12) is the source of all holiness in the church; 13) brings about the unity of the church as temple of the Holy Spirit; 14) directs and supports the church in the liturgy of the church; 15) is the living memory of the church mission, and 16) responsible for the church’s mission (CCC Subject Index, pgs. 784-785). So, if you remember anything about the Holy Spirit remember this (continue Page 4 S stands for Sanctifier: To sanctify means to set apart for a sacred purpose; or to religious use or to consecrate [Webster’s Dictionary, 10th Edition]. In John 17:17-19, it is written: “Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so they also may be consecrated in truth. The Holy Spirit fulfills Jesus’ request by bringing the truth of the Gospel into our hearts and helping each of us enthrone the truth of Jesus’ Lordship in every area of our lives such as our as our beliefs, attitudes, emotions, feelings, motivations, intentions, perception, actions, habits and character. Because if you believe Jesus is your Lord then your attitude towards his work will reflect his commitment, and your commitment to Jesus is what sets you apart from those in the world. Page 5 Volume 13 Issue 7 English Night of Renewal Theme: Repentance and Receiving the Gifts Friday, September 21, 2012, 7pm - 9pm St. Paul’s Church, 350 Sutton Dr, SATX 78228 Speaker: D. J. Bernal O stands for Oneness through Obedience: The Holy Spirit is one with the Father and the Son. Our oneness with the Holy Trinity can only be achieved through obedience. However, Chris Tiegreen, Author of At His Feet states that for “obedience to be perfect it must be rooted in love. It is written in John 14:31, “The world must learn that I love the Father and that is why I do everything as he commands me.” The Holy Spirit helps us to obey God out of love. He awakens us to the love of the Father and the love of Jesus for us on the cross. Obedience is not our means to righteousness; it is the clearest expression of our devotion to Jesus.” U stands for Unifer: Jesus prayed for Church Unity. It is written in John 17:20-21, “I pray […] also for those who through their word will come to believe in Me. May they all be one. As You, Father, are in Me and I in You, may they be one in us.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “the Church is one because of her source: “the highest exemplar and source of this mystery is the Unity, in the Trinity of Persons, of one God, the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit. The Church is one because of her founder: “the Word made flesh, the prince of peace, who reconciled all men to God by the cross,…restoring the unity of all in one people and one body.” The Church is one because of her “soul”: It is the Holy Spirit, dwelling in those who believe and pervading and ruling over the entire church, who brings about that wonderful communion of the faithful and joins them together so intimately in Christ that he is the principle of the Church’s unity” (CCC 813). L stands for Life giver: in the Catechism of the Catholic Church it states, “The Word of God and his breath are at the origin of the being and life of every creature: It belongs to the Holy Spirit to rule, sanctify, and animate creation, for he is God, consubstantial with the Father and the Son… Power over life pertains to the Spirit, for being God he preserves creation in the Father through the Son” (CCC 703). It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit’s revelation to me as the “Soul” of the Church will awaken in you a greater desire to seek Him and to know Him and have Him reveal himself to you in a very personal way.
