I received this email some time ago. You may not know the stories behind all these people in the Scriptures (that might encourage you to do some Bible reading to find out!), but the message is good for all of us. So often we feel unworthy, unprepared and unlikely to be called by God, but over and over again, God’s word shows us that He often chooses the most unlikely people to do great things for Him. The next time you feel as if God can't use you because you have nothing to offer, just remember... • • • • • • • • • • • I • • Noah was a drunk (Genesis 9:20ff) Abraham was too old (Genesis 18) Isaac was a daydreamer (Genesis) Jacob was a liar (Genesis 27) Leah was ugly (Genesis 31) Joseph was abused (Genesis 37) Moses had a stuttering problem (Exodus 4:10) Gideon was afraid (Judges 6) Samson had long hair and was a womanizer (Judges 16) Rahab was a prostitute (Joshua 2) Jeremiah and Timothy were too young (Jeremiah 1; 1Timothy 4:12) David was an adulterer and a murderer (2Samuel 11) Elijah was suicidal (1Kings 19) https://s-media-cache-ak0. pinimg.com/564x/ec/62/d5/ ec62d51226769d35d1e63dfdbe87aa19.jpg • • • • • • • • • • • • • http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bbS9iwcR9bU/ THUQKlFVEAI/AAAAAAAAA3Y/kb2KZ-8V85c/s1600/ failure.jpg Isaiah preached naked (Isaiah 20) Jonah ran from God (Jonah 1) Naomi was a widow (Ruth 1) Job went bankrupt (Job 1) John the Baptist ate bugs (Matthew 3) Peter denied Christ (Matthew 26) The disciples fell asleep while praying (Matthew 26) Martha worried about everything (Luke 10) The Samaritan woman was divorced – more than once (John 4) Zacchaeus was too small (Luke 19) Paul was too religious (Acts 8) Timothy had an ulcer (1Timothy 5) Lazarus was dead! (John 11) Have My Mission The following wonderful quote from Blessed John Newman, is a great antidote to feeling worthless and useless: “God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments. Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about.” – John Henry Cardinal Newman To My Friends at Holy Rosary Parish I would like to thank all those who helped in making my Farewell Mass and reception so beautiful and memorable.
