CLOSINGS/CANCELLATIONS
We follow Harford County school closings. When schools are closed for holidays, teacher staff
development, and/or inclement weather dance will not be held. The Inclement Weather Policy is
included in this packet. We will post on our website and facebook about any sudden cancellations
(www.havredegracedance.com). Also, we will send out group email messages and possibly a text.
TEACHER CONTACT
You can always contact us by visiting our website, www.havredegracedance.com or emailing us at
[email protected]. We will reply to you as soon as possible. If you have a specific
question for a teacher, you can email them using their personal email address:

COMMUNICATION
We ask that you check your email once in the morning and once in the afternoon as updates and
messages will be relayed through email OFTEN. We will also try to communicate via text message this
year! More details of the texting option will come as the dance year progresses. If you have an
@hcps.org or @ccps.org email address please provide a secondary email address because their
servers block our email service.
The most common reason subscribers don’t see our email in their inboxes is because it’s landing in
spam/junk folders. Please make sure you add your teacher’s personal email address as well as
[email protected] to your contact list or address book. You can also check your
spam/junk filter settings to be sure that our addresses aren’t being blocked.
VOLUNTEERS
This coming dance season we will be asking for a volunteer to be the “Class Mom or Dad” for your
child’s class. The parent volunteer would assist with making sure that all parents in that particular
class receive informational flyers, distribute and collect fundraising packets, make class phone calls to
notify if a class has been cancelled, and measure children and fill out the costume order measurement
form. Although we do have a committee, we think this will help to make it easier for everyone if the
dance committee and teachers had a “Class Parent.” If you have any ideas or suggestions that might
benefit our program, please e-mail us at [email protected]. Volunteers are an essential
part of our program. Please consider giving some of your time to make this another successful year
for your little dancer. Thank You!

Dance Rules
Note: PARENTS – PLEASE REVIEW THESE RULES WITH YOUR CHILD(REN)
1. Registration and Costume fees are non-refundable.
2. Running in the halls is not permitted.
3. Food and drink are not permitted inside the building after school hours (this includes no gum
chewing during class). Violation of this rule can result in dismissal from the program.
4. Students should use the restroom before coming to class. If your child is not potty trained we
ask that you stay nearby to the classroom to assist your child with their bathroom needs.
5. Students are not permitted to be in other areas of the building. Anyone who is found wandering
the halls or creating a disruption will be given a warning for the first offense. The second
offense will result in dismissal from the program. REFUNDS ARE NOT GRANTED FOR
DISMISSALS.
6. Children are to be escorted to the class by parents and picked up at the same location.
PLEASE BE PROMPT. No child will be allowed to leave the class unless a parent is
waiting. For security reasons, the doors to the school will be locked during class times and
may not be propped open. Please be on time to pick up your child.
7. Inclement Weather – See attached inclement weather policy. No school = No dance
8. More than 5 unexcused absences from a class could result in dismissal from the recital.
Please try to advise your teacher if you know you will be missing a class.
9. PROPER DANCE ATTIRE MUST BE WORN TO ALL CLASSES. No jeans, large shirts,
jewelry, constrictive clothing, etc. Dance shoes must also be worn to all classes. No stocking
feet. Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a ponytail or bun for every class. Please
see the Proper Dance Attire Form included with this packet for more details.

Proper Dance Attire
Ballet
Leotard, tights and pink ballet shoes must be worn to each class. A ballet skirt or
dance sweater/warmer (made specifically for dance) may be worn over a leotard.
Hair must be pulled back at all times into a ponytail or a bun. Shoes should fit
snugly and strings tucked in.
Tap and Jazz
Leotard and tights, dance pants, dance skirt or unitard of any color must be worn to
each class. Black tap or jazz shoes must also be worn at all times. Hair must be
pulled back into a ponytail or bun. If pants are worn, they should be capris or dance
pants that come just to the ankle. Pants that hang over the shoes are a safety
hazard. Tap dancers should arrive to class in rubber-soled shoes that they can
warm up in so they don’t slide around unless the teacher tells them otherwise.
Lyrical/Modern
Leotard and tights, dance pants, dance skirt or unitard of any color must be worn to
each class. Class may be taken in bare feet, but nude, foot undeez will be required
for the recital. No loose or baggy clothing allowed.
Creative Movement
Leotard, tights and pink ballet shoes must be worn to each class. Skirts and tutu’s
may be worn if they are not a distraction to the child.
Boys may wear fitted t-shirts and pants that allow them to move freely. Please be
sure pant legs are above the shoes.
* Street clothes, jeans, baggy pants, baggy shirts, hair down and jewelry
are not acceptable for any class. In order for the teachers to see
movements and/or correct them, these rules must be followed.
* County Ballet Dance Shop has a selection of shoes/attire in all sizes. Also,
Payless, Wal-Mart, Curtain Call for Class, Dance Distributors (online), and
Target are great places to check for proper dance shoes/attire.

Inclement Weather Information
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
The Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation will utilize the following
procedure for cancellation of programs and activities during inclement weather
conditions.
PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITIES:
Weekdays, during regular business hours, when Harford County Government Offices
are closed, all Harford County Parks and Recreation facilities will also be closed.
These facilities will also adhere to announce delayed openings or early closings as
determined by Harford County Government. In addition, if a specific facility cannot be
opened or remain open safely, it may be closed by the local Parks and Recreation
staff. During evening hours, weekends and holidays, when Harford County
Government does not have regular business hours, local recreation staff will make
cancellation decisions based upon specific site conditions. Excluded is Swan Harbor
Farm.
SCHOOL FACILITIES:
During weekdays when schools are closed or close early, all Harford County
Parks and Recreation activities are cancelled. When schools are closed or close
early on Friday, activities for that weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) will be
cancelled based on the policy established by the Board of Education. If inclement
weather occurs weekdays after school is dismissed and on weekends, Harford County
Department of Parks and Recreation will use the snow emergency plan to determine
activity status. When the snow emergency plan is in effect, activities at school sites will
be cancelled.
LISTEN TO WAMD (97 AM) OR WXCY (103.7 FM) FOR ANY ANNOUNCEMENTS
REGARDING PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS.
Website will also be updated for any closing information.
