CALLED TO SERVE
For many weeks now, we have been
celebrating the appearance of the divine
presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and
Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by some
wandering magi from the East. Today we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the
Jordan River.
John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized
as “one mightier than I.” But he did as Jesus asked, and
the “Holy Spirit descended” and heaven’s voice spoke to
Jesus, “You are my beloved Son.” Jesus was beginning
his public life of teaching and service. Soon he would
start calling others to join him.
Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In today’s second reading, he announces the heart of the message, “peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.”
Peter was called, and you and I are called to spread that
message and to serve God’s word.

La costumbre del bautismo infantil
debe ser mucho más que un acto social o una
tradición cultural, donde el ropón y los regalos
son más importantes que la doctrina cristiana,
y los padrinos se escogen no por su buen
ejemplo sino por su cuenta bancaria.
Según los Hechos de los Apóstoles, familias enteras
se bautizaban cuando el padre de familia decidía hacerse
cristiano. Esta práctica de bautizar, no solo al nuevo creyente sino también a su mujer y a sus hijos, poco a poco,
quedó solo en bautizar los niños del original creyente. El
mundo en aquel tiempo estaba basado sobre la familia así
como muchas culturas latinas de hoy.
El bautizo infantil nació en la Iglesia primitiva y al
pasar de los siglos llegó a transformarse en un rito religioso muy importante en la catequesis del nuevo cristiano. El
niño viste de ropita blanca que recuerda la presencia de
Cristo en su alma, se le regala una vela que lo invita a
brillar con la luz de Cristo y se le da una madrina o un
padrino que le enseñará a vivir en Cristo.

The more advanced cellular devices become, the
more functions they have available. Sending pictures over the Internet is something that children do
all the time. Photo-messaging on cell phones is no
different. Children need to be aware why all pictures
are not appropriate to send. They also need to know
that if they receive a message or image that makes
them uncomfortable, they should immediately tell
you or another trusted adult. For a helpful pamphlet
on cell phone safety, please visit the National Crime

Stewardship an Act of Love
Stewardship sometimes referred to as tithing or Evangelization does not need to be scary or intimidating. It
truly can be an act of love, and even be fun! It can be a response to His love, which will give us much more
comfort than any plans or ideas on our part. Perhaps we as Christians want to give or serve but really do not
know how? The desire is there but we downplay it or excuse it.
We are just temporary stewards of His treasures, time and talent. What do we do with these gifts? Are they
just for us, to give away, or share with others? As temporary stewards let’s see a pleasure in our giving and
enjoy the benefits of helping to build the body of Christ.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” (Psalm 24:1)
Mayordomía Un Acto de Amor
Mayordomía a veces denominado diezmo o evangelización no tiene que ser de miedo o
intimidación. Puede ser un acto de amor, y ser divertido! Puede ser una señal de Su
amor y nos da mas consuelo que nuestras ideas o planes. A lo mejor, nosotros como
Cristianos queremos dar o servir, pero en realidad sabemos como? Tenemos el deseo
pero lo hacemos a un lado.
Somos mayordomos temporales del tiempo, talento, y tesoro de Dios. Que hacemos con estos regalos? Son
solo para nosotros, son para dar, o para compartir con otros? Como mayordomos temporales, porque no vemos el placer que es dando y disfrutar de los beneficios que vienen con ayudar construir el cuerpo de Cristo.
