John Weatherill Archdiocese of Southwark - UK • Stewardship prayers A Stewardship Moment Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion Jesus enters Jerusalem, a city renowned since ancient times as the holiest place on earth. The psalms consider it to be a place of perfect peace. Today Jerusalem is at the center of tremendous hatred, violence and division. Its symbolism is far from the biblical traditions of peace. Stewards are blessed as peacemakers; individuals who give witness to preferring reconciliation over strife. As we reflect this week on the inhumanity done to Jesus, let us also discern how we can give authentic witness to peace in our daily lives and pray for the restoration of Jerusalem as a symbol of world peace. • Monthly recollections on stewardship saints or holy persons • Contributions from writers on stewardship-related topics cia feren l Con Anua • Samples of parish stewardship materials • A Spanish language version of the stewardship e-bulletin • Notices and reminders of stewardship events l n s Bie e lo nd 8 ació 200 istr Junio in tín • Adm -Bole e la ios e od ic ic rv ól y Se Cat San ción oy blo nal uca Pedr juntos e Ed acio , San os n Pa ité d la fe lebrad ern y Sa ce Com Int les de res uia oq arr dP da bili sa pon The resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ, is the victory of life over death, light over darkness, good over evil. Suzanne Erpenbach, of Stewardship, Diocese of Knoxville Education and Services Committee e-Bulletin • Director March 2008 3AINTS & STEWARDSHIP Drexel died in 1955 at age 97. Her feast day is March 3. Individual Acts of Stewardship Bishop Morneau of Green Bay has spoken about the 12 Gardens of Stewardship. This broad concept of stewardship shows that it extends to the soul, the arts, the mind, history, technology, politics, emotions, the planet, decisions, money, relationships, the body, and perhaps others. If stewardship consists of many gardens, then obviously it is something that needs to be planted (recognizing God as the source of all we have through prayer and thanking God for all those gifts), tended (cultivated and nurtured), and harvested (sharing with others and giving back to God). The following Individual Acts of Stewardship suggest many different ways that we can be stewards. The Garden of Relationships Our lives are busy. But the purpose of our lives is all about relationships – with God, with each other. To neglect our relationships, especially with those who are close to us, is to not exercise good stewardship. Our relationships can be a lot of work, but they are crucial for our survival. We must give our relationships proper time and attention – just like the gardener giving proper time and attention to his garden. Some ideas for tending the garden of our relationships: • Send a card to someone who is in need of support. • When you hear a siren, say a prayer for those it is going to aid and a prayer of thanksgiving for those who help them. • Invite some friends over that you haven’t gotten together with in a while. • Write a letter to someone you’ve not spoken to/written to in a while. • Eat out one less time a week. Invite a friend over for dinner. • Take a parenting class or anger management class (they are great for learning better communication skills, even if you don’t think they’d apply to you). Continued on page 2 ICSC Publications Publications remain essential to fulfilling ICSC’s mission of sharing stewardship information at the lowest cost for ICSC members. Publications include: •Stewardship: Disciples Respond – A Practical Guide for Pastoral Leaders (English and Spanish) •Children’s Stewardship Manual (English and Spanish) •Keeping Stewardship Alive: Proven Stewardship Ideas •The Stewardship Rosary (English and Spanish) •The Life of the Christian Steward: A Reflection on the Logic of Commitment (English and Spanish) •Stewardship and Development Guidelines for a Diocesan Office •Comprehensive arch/diocesan development surveys (published annually) •Pray Always and Never Lose Heart: A Treasury of Private Prayers for the Christian Steward (English and Spanish) •Steward Saints for Every Day (English and Spanish) “ “ Publications – Stewardship at your fingertips The publications I receive from ICSC are excellent resources on Christian stewardship to have available for use in the parish. Whether it is for homily ideas, bulletins, parish meetings or other ways in which I wish to communicate stewardship, these references are well worth the investment. Rev.
