Todayǯs Gospel relates Jesusǯ parable of
the Pharisee and the Publican. As I reflected on
this well known parable, I was reminded of the
book by CS Lewis, The Screwtape Letters. If you
are not familiar with it, this book is a series of
letters from Screwtape, a devil, to his devil
nephew Wormwood, whom he is mentoring to
tempt us poor humans.
When one begins to read this book, it is
necessary to develop a new mindset, where God
is the enemy, and Satan is Our Father. It takes
some time and confusion to do this.
And if you sometimes catch yourself
identifying with the Pharisee in the parable, be
careful when reading this book. I found myself
ǲtrickedǳ by the clever devils on more than one
occasion.
One tactic of the devils which stands out
in my mind was always beginning with a
temptation that seemed very slight, or even just
lukewarmness. Wormwood learned how to get a
victim to sin ǲlittle by littleǳ, or even by
convincing that he was doing something good.
There is much more here to share, but
limited space forces it to wait for another time.
Until then let us continue to pray ǲO God, be
merciful to me, a sinnerǳ.

Slow to anger, rich in kindness,
loving and forgiving are you.

Auditorium and at the Rectory. What a wonderful way
to remember our family members, friends and fellow
parishioners at Mass beginning on All Souls Day,
November 2nd. To have someone remembered, fill
out the envelope and return it to the Rectory or place
it in our regular collection. Masses will be celebrated

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
COLLECTION
This Sunday, World Mission Sunday, our Father, Pope
Francis, calls every Catholic to celebrate at the Eucharist, our vocation to be missionary and to help the
Missions. Let us pray for the Church’s worldwide mission and offer financial help through the Propagation
of the Faith for more than 1,150 dioceses in Asia,
Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.

HOMELESS INITIATIVE
Beginning in December Our Lady of the Assumption
Copiague will be hosting the homeless overnight on
Wednesday evenings at 8:30PM.
We need volunteers to cook and serve dinner and a
light breakfast and prepare sandwiches for the
homeless. We also need volunteer chaperones to stay
with the homeless overnight. This can be done in
shifts: 8:00 PM to 1:00AM and 1:00AM to 6:30AM.
This will be done for 17 Wednesday evenings into
Thursday mornings from December 7th through
March 29th.
If you are interested in being a volunteer please
contact Deacon Phil Mills at (631) 842-5211 X29.
We are in need of donations of the following items:

New men’s briefs(underwear) sizes S, M, L,
XL and XXL
•
New men’s socks size large or extra large.
•
Gently used men’s sweat pants or jeans
(large, x large and xxlarge sizes)

Small Christian Communities
A small Christian community is a face-to-face
gathering of six to twelve people who invest time with
one another for the common purpose of applying
gospel values to every aspect of their lives. Small
communities enable people to grow in their
relationship with Christ. Within a climate of trust,
participants read Scriptures, share faith, pray and
support one another in their faith journey. In the words
of Pope John Paul II: “In such a human context it will
be easier to gather to hear the word of God, to reflect
on the range of human problems in the light of this
word and gradually to make responsible decisions
inspired by the all-embracing love of Christ.”
Weekly discussions are being held on Fridays,
from 4:00PM-5:00PM, in the Outreach Meeting
Room.

Our guest speaker, Mr. Joseph Gibbon, a board of
directors member of the Gerald John Ryan Outreach Center, part of Our Lady of the Miraculous
Medal Church in Wyandanch.
Mr. Gibbon will speak about his work with the homeless population and offer ideas to us, as we are prepared to assist the homeless for 16 weeks on
Wednesday evenings (overnight).

having a food drive at the Stop n Shop in Amityville
on Friday October 28th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Comenzando en el mes de Diciembre, nuestra
parroquia estará hospedando desamparados durante las noches de los Miércoles, a partir de las
8:30PM.
Necesitamos voluntarios para cocinar, servir
cena y desayuno y en la preparación de sanwiches, para los desamparados. También necesitamos voluntarios para permanecer con los
desamparados durante la noche. Esto puede
hacerse en los siguientes turnos: 8:00PM a
1:00AM y 1:00AM a 6:30AM. Esta iniciativa será
realizada durante 17 semanas, desde el 7 de Diciembre, 2016 hasta el 29 de Marzo, 2017.

Do wszystkich naszych parafian zostały rozesłane
koperty, w których należy składać ofiary na wypominkimodlitwę za bliskich zmarłych. Jeżeli ktoś tych kopert nie
otrzymał lub potrzebuje dodatkowych kopert, może je
znaleźć przy wejściu do kościoła i w audytorium lub w
kancelarii parafialnej. Począwszy od Mszy św. w Dniu
Zadusznym, 2go listopada, wspominać będziemy
bliskch zmarłych z naszych rodzin, przyjaciół i znajomych. Wypełnione koperty z imionami i nazwiskami
zmarłych należy przynieść do kancelarii parafialnej lub
złożyć do koszyka z kolektą. Msze św. w intencjach
zmarłych odprawiane będą do 11 listopada.

ks. Wiesław Hudek (1969), świecenia (1994), magister licencjat muzykologii
(2001), doktor teologii (2003). Aktualnie jest wykładowcą liturgiki na
Wydziale Teologicznym Uniwersytetu Śląskiego, prowadzi też zajęcia w ramach innowacji pedagogicznej dla organistów w Szkołach Muzycznych II
stopnia w Katowicach i Rybniku. W latach 2003-2007 dyrygent chóru seminaryjnego w Katowicach, od 2003 roku przewodniczący Komisji Muzyki
Sakralnej Archidiecezji Katowickiej oraz duszpasterz organistów, członek
Stowarzyszenia Polskich Muzyków Kościelnych, członek jury festiwali
muzyki religijnej m.in. w Żorach, Gliwicach, Katowicach i Puławach. Autor
dziesięciu książek (w tym czterech tomów poezji) oraz wielu artykułów
naukowych i publicystycznych. Od roku 2007 współpracuje z Polskim
Radiem Katowice oraz Radiem eM. Jest pomysłodawcą Żorskiego Festiwalu
Twórczości Religijnej „Fide et Amore”, animatorem życia kulturalnego, a
także założycielem grupy modlitewnej wpierającej ludzi chorujących na
raka „Apostolstwo Zdrowia”. Od 2011 asystent kościelny Polskiej Federcji
Pueri Cantores.

INICJATYWA DLA OSÓB BEZDOMNYCH
Począwszy od grudnia w środowe wieczory od godz. 20:30
będziemy gościć w naszej Parafii Matki Bożej Wniebowziętej
osoby bezdomne.
Potrzebujemy wolontariuszy do przygotowywania i podawania im kolacji, lekkich śniadań oraz przygotowywania ka-
napek. Potrzebujemy także osób (opiekunów), które pozostawałyby z nimi na noc. Ten obowiązek można będzie
wykonywać na zmiany, w godz: 20:00-1:00 w nocy oraz 1:00
w nocy -6:30 rano. Będzie to trwało przez około 17 tygodni
(w środy), od 7 grudnia do 29 marca.
Osoby, które mogłyby pomóc, proszone są o zatelefonowanie do Diakona Phila w kancelarii parafialnej (w języku
angielskim) w celu uzyskania dodatkowych informacji, tel.

Będziemy także potrzebować donacji w postaci:
