A total of $72,492.14 has been paid and $40,006.00 has been pledged by 314 of our 1,503 families. We are only $593.86 short of reaching our $113,093.00 goal before the end of the Easter Season on May 15. I really appreciate the exceptional assistance of our parish community in helping us achieve our goal so quickly. May God bless you for blessing those in need within our diocese. Congratulations to our 163 faith formation students who will receive their First Communion on May 14 and 21. Please pray for their continued spiritual growth. The Ascension of the Lord has been transferred from Thursday to Sunday within our diocese. The Easter Season will conclude with the celebration of Pentecost on May 15. Pentecost is the birthday of our Church when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and 3,000 people converted to the Catholic faith. I hope all mothers have a happy and blessed Mothers’ Day! STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT Christ’s Ascension presents us with this reminder — that we are called to lives of discipleship and stewardship, but that sometimes being able to fulfill that requires patience and determination. Nevertheless, Christ’s Ascension represents a fulfillment that each of us must realize and recognize. We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish whose giving whether of alms or of service - will be an expression of both spiritual and corporal works of mercy, making them missionaries of mercy to a world in such need of it. THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD YOU ARE INVITED The World as it should be: An Overview of Catholic Social Teaching. Mark your calendars for this Wednesday, May 11th at 7:00 PM in Holy Family Hall for a presentation and discussion of Catholic Social Teaching. Beginning with Respect Life: God’s Gift to Creation and Understanding God’s Vision for Creation as understood through the Bible and Papal Encyclicals. How do we understand Catholic Social Teaching in our modern times? Our speaker will be Nick Haskell, Poverty and Justice Education Coordinator - WNC for Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte. Mr. Haskell has thirty years of working with Catholic Churches across the United States and developing lay leaders to act on Catholic Social Teaching. Make plans to join us! PRAISE AND WORSHIP Our Charismatic Prayer Group invites you to join them each Thursday in Sebastian Chapel. The second Thursday of each month includes Worship and Healing Prayers. Join us this Thursday, May 12th for Praise and Worship with music at 6:30 and at 7:00 PM for a Healing Communion Service with Rev. Mr. A. Stephen Pickett. Questions? Find out how to protect yourself from falls and fires both of which are leading causes of unintentional injury, disability or death. This is certainly a very important topic that will teach us how to keep ourselves safe from avoidable injuries and tragedy. This is our last meeting before we break for the summer so we hope everyone can be there - and bring a guest with you! Supreme Timers is open to parishioners 55 or over. The covered dish lunch will begin at 12:00 Noon. Please bring your favorite dish to share (meat, veggie, fruit, dessert, etc). MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Jesus “raised his hands and blessed them”.
