NIGHT OUT
Neighborhoods are encouraged to
strengthen police-community partnerships
and join in giving neighborhood crime
a “going away” party by organizing
National Night Out events. Neighborhoods
throughout Irving will leave their porch
lights on to observe National Night Out on
Oct. 6.
The Irving Police Department is now
accepting requests for an officer or a
representative from the department
to visit neighborhood block parties.

Permaculture: Integrating People into
Nature’s Design
Permaculture is a creative design process
based on whole-systems thinking that uses
ethics and design principles. Students will
learn about the basics of permaculture
principles and simple applications in
everyday living.
DOCUMENT SHREDDING
Shredding documents to safeguard from
identify theft can be a costly service.
Residents are invited to a free shredding
event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 16 at 128
N. Briery Road. Shredding events provide
residents with an opportunity to have
sensitive documents properly destroyed
and also offer residents an easy way to
conserve resources by recycling paper.

CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES
Residents are reminded to set clocks back
one hour for daylight saving time Nov. 1.
As part of the Irving Fire Department’s
Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery
campaign, it also is recommended that
residents replace smoke detector batteries
when changing clocks this month.
