4.1. Read the poems by Phillis Wheatley (1773). Look up the words you don’t know and try to explain any references and
allusions in the text. (Read also her letter of February 11, 1774, to the Reverend Samson Occom.)
4.2. Outline the most significant background information for the interpretation of the text, such as historical location,
authorship (with some relevant information about the author) or addressees (if they can be identified or conjectured).
