We tend to think that if we ask for help, it’s a sign of weakness. So we try to keep our struggles hidden, stuffed deep inside. However, that’s not God’s plan. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” God wants us to care for others—and allow others to care for us in our time of need. Contact Barbara Brennan 458-8922 or Tom Ringenbach 458-0915 for more information. DEBT REDUCTION Wkly Debt Reduction Budget Debt Reduction 6,923 3,491 ATTENDANCE / ASISTENCIA COME EXPLORE CATHOLICISM Do you have a family member or friend who is interested in learning about the Catholic faith? Do you know someone who was baptized Catholic as an infant, but never received any other sacraments, or attended religious education or Mass while growing up? Are you a visitor, curious about what the Catholic Church teaches? Perhaps thinking about joining the Catholic Church? Catholic Inquiry sessions: Every Monday at 6pm in Room 111. All are welcome to join us! For more info, please call Edie Shanahan, 865-271-9276, or [email protected]. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Remember that the Society of St. Vincent de Paul can accept donations of used major appliances in good working condition. Call (865) 274-8697 to arrange for pick up. Today as we celebrate the feast of the Ascension we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on earth continues through his disciples…and now through us. When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts, into our lives and into the hearts of those who are poor. The next meeting of the Society will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 20 in the Deacon Jose Rivera room. Call Larry Finneran at (865) 657-9119 for more information. PANCAKE BREAKFAST THIS SUNDAY Come enjoy Pancakes and MORE after 9:00am Mass. In addition to pancakes, knights serve sausage, mini omelets, French toast, biscuits and gravy, orange juice and coffee. Remember all proceeds from the pancake breakfasts go to support our diocesan seminarians and Knights of Columbus local charities. We hope to see you and thank you for your support. HOME CAMPAIGN INFORMATION One of the most well-known projects associated with the Home Campaign is the new Cathedral. It is helpful to know that provided we meet our goal of $2,000,000, we here at St. Thomas the Apostle will receive at least 65% of all funds we raise to help us at St. Thomas the Apostle and that about 13% of what we raise will go toward the building of the new Cathedral. In fact, Sacred Heart Cathedral and major donors will fund $20 million of this project, while the remaining 50 parishes in our diocese will combine to provide an estimated $4.5 million in support. As the Mother Church of the Diocese, the Cathedral belongs to every Catholic in East Tennessee. Current and future generations will benefit from this worship space for decades to come. = HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS The diocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is requesting information for their High School Outreach Program. If you are a graduating high school senior, please stop by the office to pick up a card to fill out. THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEED YOUR HELP Two guiding principles of the Knights of Columbus are Unity and Fraternity. Unity signifies the act of relying on each other, sticking together to complete a project. At the inception of the order, fraternity often meant caring for widows and orphans, thus the Knights of Columbus Insurance. Today, members continue to focus on the care of those brothers and their families who are sick and in distress. We need your help in telling us of any member of the Knights who is ill, homebound, unable to attend a meeting because of the inability to drive at night, having difficulty maintaining their home or yard or just needs a visit from a fellow Knight. Please provide the opportunity for the members of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Knights of Columbus to be of service to a fellow Knight by calling Deputy Grand Knight Ray Mouse at 865-712-7820 or Chairman of the Knights Pro Active Assistance Program Joe Filosi at 423- 884-6979. VIDALIA ONIONS Vidalia onions will be for sale after Masses on May 1415. First come, first served. 10 pounds for $10; checks made payable to “Colombia Mission”. Benefit for Colombian Mission.
