Beste urte batez, Bilbao Mendi Film Festival-ek hiriburuko erraietara profesional eta amateur
handienek lortutako mendiaren esparruko argazki harrigarrienak ekarri ditu. Edizio honetan,
Donostiako Club Vasco de Camping Elkartearekin egindako lankidetzari esker, CVCEPHOTO
nazioarteko lehen lehiaketako argazki bikainenak erakusten dira. Txapelketan 52 herrialdetako 273
parte-hartzailek ateratako 700 argazki izan dira lehian. Irudien kalitate artistiko eta teknikoaz gain,
epaimahaiak horietan azaltzen diren mendi-jardueren kalitatea hartu du kontuan. Otro año más, Bilbao Mendi Film Festival acerca a las entrañas de la ciudad las instantáneas más
impactantes del mundo de la montaña captadas por los mejores profesionales y amateurs del medio.
En esta edición, fruto de la colaboración con el Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea de Donostia, se
exponen las más sobresalientes fotografías del primer certamen internacional CVCEPHOTO, que ha
contado con más de 700 imágenes a concurso y 273 participantes de 52 países. Además de la gran
calidad artística y técnica de las fotografías, el jurado ha valorado también la calidad de las
actividades de montaña que en ellas se muestran.
Once again, Bilbao Mendi Film Festival brings to the bowels of the city the most striking shots of the
mountain world captured by the best professionals and amateurs of the media. In this edition, thanks
to the collaboration with the ‘Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea’ of Donostia, the most outstanding
photographs of the first CVCEPHOTO international competition have been presented, where more
than 700 pictures taken by 273 participants from 52 countries were received. Besides the great
artistic and technical quality of the photographs, the jury also assessed the quality of the mountain
activities that are shown in them.

Oscar Hübinette esquía frente al volcán
Tolbachik en erupción. Traté de capturar una
imagen que combinara una erupción volcánica
con un esquiador durante casi cinco años en
Italia, Islandia, Noruega, Ecuador, Irán… por
último, Oscar y yo lo conseguimos en
Kamchatka, Rusia. ¡Hicimos solo un intento para
capturar la imagen y todo funcionó! Al día
siguiente nuestra tienda quedó destruida en un
ciclón, y tuvimos que refugiarnos durante 10 días
en una cabaña lejos de la civilización. ¡Pero valió
la pena! Oscar Hübinette is skiing in front of the
erupting Tolbachik volcano. I tried to capture an
image combining a volcanic eruption and skiing
for almost five years in Italy, Iceland, Norway,
Ecuador, Iran… and finally Oscar and I got it in
Kamchatka, Russia. We only had one try to
capture the image and everything worked out!
The next day our tent got destroyed in a cyclone,
and we had to take shelter for 10 days in a hut
far away from civilization. But it was worth it!

Helikopterotik ahal genituen argazki gehienak

Queríamos disparar desde el helicóptero tanto

en ella. Esta fue la última bajada del día con la

que ésta terminó siendo su última bajada
profesional y obtuvimos algunas de las mejores
fotos en ella.
We wanted to shoot from the heli as much as
possible to take advantage of the overhead
angles it offered and the different perspective we
could get. We found this one zone with great
snow and light and did 3 runs on it. This was
the last run of the day in the best light we had. After finishing the trip Jussi decided that he was
going to retire from professional snowboarding
after 17 years. So this ended up being his last
professional run, and we got some of the best
shots on it.

Having climbed the north face of the Grand
Pilier d'Angle the previous day, we bivouaced on
the summit on a narrow ledge cut out of the
snow. We got up at dawn and continued up the
final arete to Mont Blanc.

In early March of 2014 Todd Wells and I
paddled the Little White Salmon after a rare
snowstorm. We put on as many warm layers as
we could and paddled downstream. The river
was a good level and the whitewater was
amazing. We approached Spirit Falls and I
quickly ran downstream to capture this image of
Todd Wells kayaking down the perfect waterfall.

El año pasado pasé 7 días en una tienda de
campaña en medio de la cordillera de las
Swedish Mountains junto con 3 esquiadores y
un cámara. Estábamos solos y teníamos las
montañas para nosotros. Cuando capturé esta
imagen había subido a un pico vecino mientras
mis amigos esquiaban hasta el pico de enfrente.
Las sombras en la imagen son de las nubes que
se mueven por encima de nosotros.
Last year I spent 7 days in a tent in the middle
of the Swedish Mountains range together with 3
skiers and a filmer. We were all alone and had
the mountains to our selfes. When I captured this
image I climbed up a neighbouring peak while
my friends skied up the peak in front of me. The
shadows in the image are from the moving
clouds above us.

The Tombstone Territorial Park is seldom
traveled in winter, and scarcely skied. We
traveled there in February, enduring -30C
temperatures, hoping to capture a picture of
Tobin skiing under the northern lights. The shot
happened at 2am, at -23C, with weary legs and
tired eyes.

The Aleutian Islands stretch between Alaska
and Russia, and are comprised of amazing
volcanic peaks, jutting out from cold stormy
seas. The mountains endure constant assault
from high winds and precipitation. While
ascending the mountain a convective storm
dropped 6 inches of fresh snow on us, and we
had the ski run of a lifetime, descending from
7500 feet with views of the Baring Sea (pictured)
and the Pacific ocean to the south.
