A Message from Father Roberto
Parish theme for this year: Be Disciples. Make Disciples.
Mother Teresa Exhibit
The Missionaries of Charity are having an exhibit on the life of Mother Teresa at the Cathedral of
Christ the Light in Oakland October 2-9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and a special Mass on October
9 at 10 a.m. All are invited.
Circles of Commitment
“Commitment” is a scary word for many of us; we are often afraid of
commitment. But that is precisely what Jesus calls us to in our faith:
commitment to him and to each other in the Body of Christ. To the
left you will see a diagram called the “Five Circles of Commitment.”
These circles lay out for us what God is calling us to be and to do as
individuals and as a parish community. As we have been saying in
our current preaching series, “Be Disciples…Make Disciples,” we are
especially called to reach out to the people in the outer circle: these
are the unchurched people in the local community. They can be family
members, friends or even total strangers. These are not bad people;
they are simply the people who often have little or no commitment to God or to faith. They are
people we come in contact with in a million ways in our lives, and they are ultimately the ones we
want to help encounter Jesus and, if possible, to bring to Holy Rosary.
Eventually, we want to help these unchurched people – who either never come to church or who
come only on special occasions – move to the next
circle of commitment called “the crowd.” The crowd is
made up of those people who come to church at least
now and then. I would say that most of you who come
to Holy Rosary are part of the crowd. That is a good
start, but it is only a start because we want to help the
crowd progress into the deeper levels of commitment.
So, in the first three circles of commitment, we are
trying to move people from simply having an awareness
of Holy Rosary to attending Holy Rosary and then
becoming active members here. The people out in
the local community talk about “that church;” the
crowd – those who are attenders at Holy Rosary –
talk about “this church;” but the congregation – our
actual members – talk about “my church” or “our
church.” Members have a sense of ownership. They are
contributors, not just consumers. You are not a member
of Holy Rosary just by coming to Mass here or just by registering or just by giving in the collection.
Becoming an actual member will be a big step for many of you because membership requires a
real commitment to our mission of being disciples and making disciples.
The next circle of commitment is to become a mature member that is committed to growing in the
faith. This is an ongoing process for all of us because a disciple never stops learning and growing.
Every year we offer many ways you can grow in your faith, and this year we have more than ever.
It’s time for you to do something for God and for yourself. Take the leap and become a committed
member of our parish. And if you are already committed, then take the next step to deepen your
faith and your commitment.
Finally, the innermost circle of commitment is called “the core.” This is the group of people who
truly make this parish function. The core are those people who are truly committed to serving
God and others and who actively seek to share their faith and bring others to Jesus. These circles
of commitment are not meant to imply a judgment on who is a better person or who is closer to
God; they simply help us understand more clearly what Jesus is calling us to be and to do as his
disciples. It is our goal to get as many of you as possible into that circle of core members. So my
question for all of you today is where are you in those circles of commitment? I challenge you to ask
yourself where you are and if you are willing to move to the next level of commitment.

Discípulos…Hagan Discípulos,” estamos especialmente llamados a llegar a
llegar a Santo Rosario.

Harvest Fair Thank You
The last two days was a celebration of community and
love! Our Harvest Faire and all of its components was
successful! It took weeks and a large group of Holy
Rosary Parishioners to put on an event that usually takes
months. There are so many people who worked diligently
to make this happen. Thanks to Marc and the Parking
Lot Ministry for taking on the task of set up and tear
down. It's quite a job but they did it!!!! So many people
to thank...Lesli Reano and her team of decorators; Nora
von Ubin for taking on the task of tickets, Joe Reano
and the bands that he was able to get for free; all of
our "bank family' who keeps the money flowing; the
chairpersons of all the booths; those who made candy
and worked the GALS booth; those who supported
the YLI baked goods by baking or working; those who
donated and worked in the Country Store; Our Lady of
Fatima and Hispanic communities for their wonderful
dinners; Holy Rosary School for Kiddieland and the
Hamburger Booth; The African, Filipino, and Hispanic
communities for their traditional food; all the kids
who worked the games or played the games; Knights of
Columbus, who besides running the Linguica and Beer
booth, was there to help when needed; the Marchetti
family who returned for their annual Micro Brew booth
and their ever popular TV; Brenda Gorball for her
successful attempt at Sangria; the Boy Scouts who added
Dr. Pepper Floats to their Root Beer Floats; our Security
Team who kept us safe; Toni Morris who organized
the helpers for the games; Mary Chapman who is now
known as our
"Garbage Queen; and last but not least Sharon Del
Chiaro who picked up every loose end and tied it into
a knot. Extra thanks to the 2nd graders of Holy Rosary
School for their wonderful songs!
We were blessed to have Father Vicente with us for
a few hours. He was so happy to see all of his friends
and they happy to see him. I hope I haven't forgotten
anyone but the odds are that I have. Please know it is not
intentional just an oversight from someone who is tired
as all of them. God bless Holy Rosary for their amazing
community spirit and love of our parish! We surely have
shared the love of God with our own parish members
and all their friends and families who joined us this
weekend. Thank you! Thank you! We did it!
