Reflection:
This weekend our nation celebrates its 239th year of its independence and birth as a nation.
In comparison to many other countries in other parts of the world in particular Europe, we are
fairly a young nation. The ideals of our forefathers in establishing a new nation were based
upon faith; a faith that was based in a belief in God and the gifts endowed by him. This faith
and belief was and continues to be the foundation of our country. However, it is unfortunate
that this foundation is being threatened. Faith is the eternal gift that our forefathers referred
to as that “inalienable” right that every human person has and cannot be taken away. It is
this gift that God has bestowed upon every human person not from the time we were born
but from the moment of our conception. The faith of our founding fathers was deeply rooted
in God and is intertwined in the ideals they incorporated into the Declaration of Independence
as well as the United States Constitution. One’s faith is dependent on God for he is the cause of
our existence. When we begin to pull away from God and distance ourselves, our faith is then
threatened and may cause in us confusion and even a crisis which can lead us to developing
our own ideals and beliefs that are contrary to what God has established for his creation.
Today’s readings reflect this gift of faith especially in the Gospel. Again, Jesus tries to reach
out to the people of his day but they were not open to hearing his message. Because of their
lack of “faith” he was not able to perform any “mighty deeds”. As we celebrate our nations
independence, I would challenge each one of us this week to examine where is “my faith” and
see if it is based in God or have I based my faith far from God. For us Catholic Christians, true
faith can only be found and be grounded in God the Father who is the true author and giver of
that special gift we know as “faith”. Let us pray to God our Father, asking him to enlighten us
and the path that leads us closer to Him. May God Bless these United States with His abundant
grace, peace and love. To all of you my spiritual children, Happy 239th Independence Day!
Reflexión:
Este fin de semana nuestra nación cumple 239 años de su independencia y nacimiento como
nación. En comparación con otros países en otras partes del mundo, en particular Europa,
nosotros somos una nación joven. Los ideales de nuestros antepasados en estableciendo una
nueva nación fue basado en la fe; una fe basada en la creencia en Dios y los regalos dados por
El. Esta fe y creencia fue y sigue siendo la fundación de este país. Sin embargo, es desafortunado
que esta fundación está siendo amenazada. La fe es el regalo eterno que nuestros ancestros
se referían como derecho “inalienable” que cada persona humana tienen y no debería ser
rebatada. Es el regalo que Dios ha dado a cada persona no desde nacimiento pero desde el
momento de nuestra concepción. La fe de nuestros padres fundadores era profundamente

hasta una crisis que puede llevarnos a desarrollar nuestros propios ideales y creencias que
son contrarios a lo que Dios estableció para su creación. Las lecturas de hoy reflejan el regalo
de fe especialmente en el evangelio. Otra vez, Jesús trata de alcanzar a la gente de su época
pero no estaban abiertos a escuchar su mensaje. Por la falta de fe de la gente, Jesús no pudo
realizar algún milagro. En celebrando la independencia de nuestra nación, yo reto a cada uno
de ustedes esta semana a examinar en donde esta “mi fe” y ver si su fe es basada en Dios
o es basada lejos de Dios. Para nosotros Cristianos Católicos, la verdadera fe solo puede ser
encontrada y fundada es Dios Padre quien es el verdadero autor y dador del regalos especial
que es la fe. Oremos a Dios, Nuestro Padre, pidiendo que nos ilumine y al igual el camino que
nos lleva cerca de Él. Que Dios bendiga a los Estados Unidos con su abundante gracia, paz, y
amor. A todos ustedes mi hijos espirituales, ¡Feliz 239 Día de Independencia!
Transitional Diaconate Ordination:
Next Saturday, July 11th is the Transitional Diaconate Ordination. Six of our seminarians
will be ordained to the Order of Deacon and next year to the Priesthood. One of the six who
will be ordained is Sean DeWitt and will be assigned to San Jose parish for the summer and
will be returning to Rome, Italy at the end of August to complete his studies. The ordination
will take place Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. by the Most Reverend Daniel E. Garcia,
Auxiliary Bishop of Austin at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church 9500 Neenah Ave, Austin,
TX 78717. All are invited.
Ordenación al Diaconado Transicional:
El siguiente sábado, 11 de Julio es la Ordenación al Diaconado Transicional. Seis de nuestros
seminaristas serán ordenados al orden del Diaconado y el año que viene al Sacerdocio. Uno

el verano y regresara a Roma, Italia al fin de Agosto para terminar sus estudios. La ordenación

Vacation:
I will be on vacation beginning June 21st and will be back in the office July 15th. I will be
visiting my family in California. Please be assured of my prayers for all of you and please

Jamaica Raffle Committee:
I would like to thank this year’s Jamaica Raffle Committee for their hard work in organizing
this important parish event. This year’s committee members are: Rosie Castillo, Esther Terrazas, George and Lydia Ruiz. Thank you for your commitment and sharing your gifts and
talents with the parish.

This year at my request, the committee has made some changes to the raffle. We will only have
eleven prizes this year. For this year’s Jamaica the grand prize will be a Ram Truck. The goal
is to make $100,000.00 on the raffle. I believe we can reach this goal if everyone does their
part in selling raffle tickets. The tickets will be available for parishioners to pick up after all
the Masses beginning the weekend of July 11th and 12th and at the parish office during the
week. I encourage all of you to sell as many tickets as you can. More information on our Annual
Jamaica will be forth coming. Let’s all work together to make this year’s Jamaica successful!
Este año por mi petición, el comité ha hecho algunos cambios a la rifa. Solo tendremos once
premios este año. Para este año el premio mayo de la Jamaica será una Camioneta Ram.
La meta es que recaudemos $100,000.00 en la solo la rifa. Yo creo que si podemos llegar a
nuestra meta si todos hacemos nuestra parte de vender los boletos para la rifa. Los boletos
estarán disponibles para que los levanten después de todas las misas empezando el fin de

Service for those struggling to conceive:
The annual Infertility Prayer Service for those couples struggling with infertility and/or miscarriage will be celebrated by Bishop Daniel Garcia July 22 at 7 p.m. at St. John Neumann Parish
in Austin. Sarah’s Hope & Abraham’s Promise of the Rabboni Institute, St. John Neumann
Parish Culture of Life Committee and the Diocese of Austin Offices of Pro-Life and Family Life

Ethics and Integrity:
As a gentle reminder it is diocesan policy that anyone involved in ministry involving children,
youth and/or vulnerable adults is required to complete a the Ethics and Integrity application
process and attend the “Called to Protect” Workshop. Because one may never know when
they will be working with young people and vulnerable adults when working in ministry,
I am requiring everyone involved in any kind of parish ministry at San Jose (employees to
volunteers) to complete the process and be certified in Ethics and Integrity. The certification is
offered in English and Spanish. In addition, the diocesan policy requires the certification be
renewed every three years. If you are not sure if your certification is up for renewal or may
have expired, please contact Mary Morris who is the E & I coordinator for the our parish at
(512) 444-7587. We must do all we can as a parish community to be vigilant and to protect
anyone who is vulnerable.

July Weekends
For the month of July, Bishop Vasquez has asked Fr. John to celebrate the Sunday Masses at
St. Mary’s in Lampasas and Good Shepherd in Lometa. During the week he will be here at
San Jose working on his regular duties.

Clerical Endowment Fund (C. E. F.) Prayer Cards: Cards are available in the Parish Office for
a donation of $2.00 or $5.00. Perpetual Certificates are also available. These enrollments
make excellent gifts for many occasions. Proceeds from these donations are used to educate
Seminarians for the Diocese. The Fund is also used to make low interest loans to parishes for
their building programs. This has been a project of the Austin Diocesan Council of Catholic
Women since 1948.

If you will be registering your children for a Sacramental Class
this upcoming year NOW is the time to get those baptismals ready.
If your child was baptized here at San Jose you may request a
copy from our main church office for just $5.00. If your child
was baptized at another parish or in another country you need
to contact the parish in which they were baptized for a copy. We
will not be registering anyone for a Sacramental Class without a
copy of his or her baptismal. Also if your child will be entering
their 2nd year for Confirmation we will need a copy of their 1st
Communion Certificate as well. We will also not register anyone
for Confirmation without their 1st Communion certificate.

Baptize???
If you plan to Baptize your child/ren
(ages 6 and under) in the year 2015, this
announcement applies to you! If you are
planning to baptize your child/ren in the
year 2015 in the months of July, August,
or September, we ask you that you come
to an orientation session on Tuesday July
7, 2015 at 6pm in the Parish Hall. At this
orientation, Mary Arana will share all the
information and paperwork you will need
in order to baptize in here at San Jose. If
you miss this orientation, you may come by the office during the week for
information. We will ask you to attend the next orientation, which will be
posted in the bulletin for final baptisms of 2015.

Infertility & Miscarriage Support: Sarah’s
Hope & Abraham’s Promise is a spiritual
support program for couples struggling with
infertility and miscarriage. Based on Catholic
teaching, we combine the wisdom of modern
medicine with the healing power of the Catholic Church. We offer a
women’s Bible study support group, couples healing retreats and prayer
services throughout the year.
Adoption Support: Destined: Families Built by Love is a spiritual
support program and monthly playgroup for adoptive families. Anyone
who has built their family through the miracle of adoption is invited to
meet with other families to share the joys and challenges of adoption and
fostering. The playgroup meets once a month in different areas of Austin.
Join fellow Catholic women at the quarterly meeting of the Austin
Deanery Council of Catholic Women on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St.
Mary, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 6100 Lohman Ford Road,
Lago Vista 78645, 512-267-2644. Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM and will
be followed by a business meeting and brunch. The speaker is Deacon Ed
Faulk who will address the topic of Women Heroes of the Early Church.
This presentation will look at some of the leaser-known women of the
early church and how their service both to the community and the church
have helped create the church we see today.

The July Diocese of Austin Prayer Vigil for Life will be
hosted by St. Catherine of Siena Parish on Sat., July 18.
Mass at 7:00 AM, followed by Adoration in church and
car caravan to Planned Parenthood to pray the Mysteries
