Life Long Faith Focus on the Gospel:
Matthew 5:13-16
Jesus tells his disciples they are to be
“salt” and “light.” Salt that cannot be tasted
is good for nothing. A hidden lamp gives no
light. The followers of Christ are to give flavor, light and
color to the world. Both metaphors point to one teaching:
the faith we treasure in our hearts must be visible to all.
Only if we express our faith in “good deeds” will we lead
others to give glory to God. A faith that is not expressed in
action is a hidden lamp, salt without savor.

STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
In today’s first reading the prophet Malachi compares our
need for conversion with the refinement of gold and silver.
To purify these precious metals, gold and silversmiths
subjected their ores to extreme heat. As the metals
reached temperatures as high as 2,000 degrees
Fahrenheit, impurities began to melt away and only the
precious metal in its purest form remained. When these
ancient refiners saw their reflections in the metal, they
knew the gold or silver was ready; that it was pure. Good
stewards know they, too, are full of impurities, and the only
way God will see his image in them is when they allow
themselves to undergo constant refinement; to accept
ongoing conversion to take place in their lives. Do we take
active steps to improve and refine our lives? Do we allow
Christ to help us rid ourselves of our impurities?

Telemarketing Fraud Seminar – Thursday, February 27th
1:30-2:30 PM in the Conference Room
Every year, thousands of people lose money to telemarketing scams – from a few dollars to their life savings – and
seniors are common targets, especially women and those
who live alone. Lynda Ender, AGE Director at The Senior
Source, will review popular scams and provide tips for protecting ourselves. “Learn the pitch. Don’t make the con
man rich!” ALL are invited.
A Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration is held every
Thursday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the Chapel. All are
invited to come and spend time in silence with our Lord.
Your safety is important to us! We have wheelchairs
available for your use at Mary Immaculate. If a wheelchair

FAMILY MINISTRY
“NEW DAY” is an eight week grief support program for
those who have suffered a loss through death. It is
designed to help each person work through the tasks of
grief in an atmosphere of caring and understanding. Our
sessions will be on Friday mornings from 9:30—11:00 a.m.

LIVING YOU MARRIAGE AS A SACRAMENT
Workshop, Wednesday, February 12 and

This workshop is preparation for couples in a

FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
La Fe de Toda la Vida Centrada en
el Evangelio: Mateo 5, 13-16
Jesús le dice a sus discípulos que
son la “sal de la tierra” y la “luz del
mundo”. La sal que no sabe a nada,
no es buena. Una lámpara escondida no nos alumbra. Los seguidos de Jesucristo deben darle sabor,
luz y color al mundo. Ambas metáforas tienen la
misma enseñanza: la fe que atesoramos en nuestros
corazones debe estar siempre visible a todos.
Solamente podremos guiar a otros a darle gloria a
Dios, cuando podamos expresar nuestra fe a través
de ‘buenas acciones’. La fe que no se expresa a través de acciones es como una lámpara escondida,
como un sal sin sabor.

Se ofrecerá un nuevo Taller de Oración en nuestra parroquia a partir del Viernes, 7 de Febrero en el salón 8b de
la Escuela de 7:00 a 9:00 p.m. y otro a partir del Sábado,

11:00 a.m. hasta la 1:00 p.m.. Estos talleres consisten de

La Escuela de María Inmaculada está aceptando inscripciones para nuevos estudiantes del año escolar 2014-2015.
Todo estudiante de kindergarten debe tener 5 años antes

una copia del acta de nacimiento, cartilla de vacunación y
certificado de bautismo (si es católico). Se ofrece una reducción en la matrícula a las familias católicas que están

En la primera lectura el Profeta Malachi compara nuestra
necesidad de conversión con el refinamiento del oro y la
plata. Para purificar estos metales preciosos, los joyeros
exponen estos metales a un calor extremo. Cuando estos
metales alcanzan temperaturas tan altas como los 2,000
grados Fahrenheit, las impurezas empiezan a derretirse y
solamente el metal, en su forma más pura, permanece.
Cuando estos antiguos plateros veían sus rostros en el
metal, entonces sabían que el oro o la plata ya estaban
listos; que estaban puros. Los buenos administradores
también saben que están llenos de impurezas, y que la única manera en la que Dios puede ver Su imagen en ellos es
cuando se permiten pasar por el refinamiento; aceptando la
continua conversión en sus vidas. ¿Estamos tomando los
pasos necesarios para mejorar y refinar nuestras vidas?
¿Le permitimos a Jesucristo ayudarnos a limpiar nuestras
impurezas?
