May 2010 Raffle Calendar Winners Every school year St. John’s School receives many requests for tuition financial aid. This year there is a substantial increase in the need for tuition financial assistance. Many families want their children to have the Catholic education experience but the tuition expense is a financial burden and they struggle to keep their children in our school year to year. Any amount donated toward tuition assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank You! Joanne Barnes Memorial Bench! Joanne Barnes was a teacher at St John the Baptist for 20 years. She was a beloved teacher, friend and poet. We are replacing the wooden bench located near the pre‐ school entrance with a more permanent granite bench. The proceeds from this concert will go towards our parish projects in the Dominican Republic. Jesús es único tesoro que debe darse a humanidad, recuerda el Papa Benedicto XVI Al participar ayer por la noche en la tradicional procesión con la que concluye el mes mariano con el rezo del Santo Rosario, el Papa Benedicto XVI recordó que "Jesús es el verdadero y único tesoro que tenemos que dar a la humanidad. Los hombres y mujeres de nuestro tiempo tienen una profunda nostalgia de Él, incluso cuando parecen ignorarlo o rechazarlo". Ante la gruta de la Virgen de Lourdes ubicada en los jardines vaticanos, el Santo Padre se refirió a la fiesta de la Visitación de la Virgen María a su pariente Isabel y resaltó que en este gesto "reconocemos el ejemplo más claro y el significado más real de nuestro camino de creyentes y del camino de la misma Iglesia, que es misionera por naturaleza, está llamada a proclamar el Evangelio por todas partes y siempre, a transmitir la fe a todo hombre y mujer, y en cada cultura". "María se queda con Isabel unos tres meses, para ofrecerle la cercanía afectuosa, la ayuda concreta y todos aquellos servicios cotidianos que necesitaba. Isabel se convierte de este modo en el símbolo de tantos an‐ cianos y enfermos, es más, de todas las personas que necesitan ayuda y amor. ¡Cuántas personas en nuestras familias, en nuestras comunidades, en nuestras ciudades, se hallan hoy en día en esta situación! Y María – que se había definido ‘la esclava del Señor’ – se hace sierva de los hombres. Más precisamente, sirve al Señor que encuentra en los hermanos". Tras subrayar que "la caridad de María, sin embargo, no se limita a la ayuda concreta, sino que llega a la cima cuando nos da al mismo Jesús, cuando hace que lo encontremos", el Papa dijo: "Este es el corazón y la cumbre de la misión evangelizadora. Este es el verdadero significado y el propósito más genuino de todo camino misionero: donar a los seres humanos el Evangelio vivo y personal, que es el mismo Señor Jesús". Seguidamente el Papa señaló que "Jesús es el verdadero y único tesoro que tenemos que dar a la humanidad. Los hombres y mujeres de nuestro tiempo tienen una profunda nostalgia de Él, incluso cuando parecen ig‐ norarlo o rechazarlo. La sociedad en que vivimos, Europa, el mundo entero, lo necesitan". Benedicto XVI resaltó al finalizar que "se nos ha confiado esta responsabilidad extraordinaria.
