Aurora Murillo (Clark) January 21, 2016 To: President Nicholas Segura Board member Paula Hall Board member Frank Tarantino Board member Arturo Solis Board member Kevin Pike President Segura, Hope every one enjoyed a very Happy New Year! It is a pleasure to start this year presenting our monthly report to SUHSD. Since our last report, we had our December DELAC meeting. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Alvarez and OLA Director Dr. Perez attended our meeting. During our meeting we reviewed the roles and resposabilities of our DELAC Board. We also had nominations. One parent asked if the present board could remain for another term. We informed the committee that as long as the voting members re elect them, yes this board could continue. Unfortunately due to a miscommunication the agenda item for the nominations exceeded it’s time. Next on our agenda was the ‘LCAP Recommendations” - moderators / presenters Dr. Perez and Dr. Alvarez. During this item Dr. Alvarez had a slide presentation to review and explain the step by step process for the review of the 2015- 2016 LCAP. This had also been done by Dr Janney in her previous two visits to DELAC. With only a few minutes to spare Dr. Perez took the floor informing parents of the content in the LCAP. Dr. Perez also asked for those who had been invited to attend from DAC (District Advisory Committee – Title I ) to fill out a different color card with suggestions so that the requirement to present the information on LCAP could be reported to have been met. I did object as only couple parents (who is are member of both committees were present. Within those few minutes some questions on the LCAP document were asked but were not answered. For example : What will be the steps to ensure that the number of EL’S who are in A-G courses could increase from 32..40%? and How are we going to provide more access to those courses to EL’s who qualify but because of language challenges they are not being able to take full advantage and maximize their potential. Those were only a couple of the types of questions parents have. The president’s report was brief. Committee members were informed of my presence at the district board meetings and the reports I have submitted. During School Reports our representatives had many questions and a discussion about what they want to see for their students and how their ELACs are functioning in their schools. Some schools are still asking for help with training and support to increase parent participation. Thank you for your support and your dedication to each and every single one of our students. Respectfully submitted, Aurora Murillo (Clark) DELAC President State and Federal Programs Dr. Luz Elena Perez, Director Thelma Stevenson, Program Manager 466 Moss Street, Chula Vista, CA 91911 (619) 934-8300 Office (619) 427-6598 FAX District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC) President: Aurora Murillo-Clark, Vice-president: Onica Mora, Secretary: Antonia May Attendance Secretary: Claudia Hernandez, Parliamentarian: Bertha Leyva Thursday, December 3, 2015 Time 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Title I Parent Center 466 Moss Street (rear), Chula Vista, CA 91911 AGENDA 9:00-9:10 a.m. 1.
