I am grateful for those who have been attending the 6 week ―A New Generation of Leaders Led by
the Spirit‖ program at St. Mary Magdalen, and for those who have attended the April 24 and May 1
Spring Prayer Group Training. It is important to not only have a personal experience of Jesus and the
Holy Spirit, but to be trained as disciples of Jesus, and to give a common witness in our Archdiocese
of the importance of the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the whole Church. We will not be taken
seriously if we do not have good training, and Jesus can work through us in greater ways when we
have good formation.
We are in the process of developing a new program to train people for Prayer Ministry and Healing
Prayer Ministry. Next month we will share with you the new program. We hope that many people will
go through this training. The Charismatic Renewal has touched and helped many people through
Healing Prayer Ministry, but, at times, we have also gotten a bad name because there are some people who do this ministry without the proper training, and have had a bad effect on people they have
been ministering. Even some people who have been doing this for a long time need more training,
wisdom and guidance. We hope that everyone who has been involved in this ministry, or feel called
to get involved, will go through this new training.
We are encouraging you to attend two special events on Pentecost Weekend. This is a special time
to pray with our Archdiocese and with other Christians in the city for an even greater outpouring of
the Spirit on all the Churches:
1) Archdiocesan Mass for the Movements: Like last year, the Archdiocese is having a Mass for all
the Lay Ecclesial Movements (which includes the Catholic Charismatic Renewal) with the
Archbishop (since he will be going to Los Angeles, it will probably be Bishop Oscar Cantu). It will
again be at St. Rose of Lima Church at 9883 Marbach Rd (78245) outside the 410 loop at 6:30
pm. on the Eve of Pentecost, May 22. The church was packed last year, so get there early.
2) Global Day of Prayer Ecumenical Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. on Pentecost, May 23, at the Alamo
Convention Center off the Hildebrand exit at 281 near the Alamo Stadium (see www.gdopsa.org).
Fr. Bob Hogan has been involved in the planning of this event. It is a wonderful bilingual evening
of song and prayer.
See the advertisement in this newsletter about the June 12 Bilingual Evening of Renewal at St. Philip
of Jesus Church (on S. Flores only a mile or so south of the Charismatic Center) on the theme Serving
with the Heart of Jesus. This is the weekend we celebrate the Feasts of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Fr. Will Combs, BBD will be the speaker. We want to invite both
English and Spanish Groups. It will be a special time to bless all the groups in the inner city area, as
well as, everyone else that attends. We all want to grow in serving with the heart of Jesus!

FROM THE SERVICE COMMITTEE:
Prepare the way of the Lord, prepare the way to Pentecost. Jesus instructed the apostles not to depart from Jerusalem, “but to wait for the promise of the Father...” (Acts 1:4).
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my Witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8)
Again this year, the Archdiocese of San Antonio has asked the Renewal Movements to come together
on the Eve of Pentecost and as one body celebrate the feast of the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the
church. Mass will be at 6:30 p.m., May 22nd, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 9883 Marbach Road, 78245
(between 410 and 1604). The Annual Charismatic Renewal celebration of Pentecost is merged with the
Archdiocese to celebrate the unity in diversity of all Lay ecclesial movements, communities and ministries of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Come let us rejoice together with our brothers and sisters in
Christ. As is our custom at Pentecost, wear a red shirt/blouse if possible. The day of renewal for May
was cancelled so that everyone can come to this event.
“Family Healing” That Leads to Ministry – Fr Bob Sears will be in San Antonio on June 19th, 2010
(place to be determined and will be announced in June Charisletter). Fr Bob Sears will have a one day
seminar from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The hard winter took its toll on nature’s growth but the springtime is
here and it is time for growth, just as plants need the light, water and good soil, so does our spiritual nature needs to be renewed by the word of God.
Come and join Fr. Bob Sears for a day of healing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Fr Sears is Superior of Jesuit Community of Loyola University. He is associate professor at Loyola of Chicago and the
name of his ministry is “Family Tree Healing Ministry.” Fr. Sears has a PHD in theology and psychotherapy and is a member of Association of Christian Therapist. He has written several books that include
“Into the Heart of God”, “Opening to God, and “Mary and the Life in the Spirit”.
Let us continue to follow the Spirit who gave us special graces to build family and community at our
conference in March. It is important that we stay connected and build bridges in order to hear the Lord
fully, and enter into the graces he has for us.
Your brother in Christ, Angel Madrid - Chairman
