LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
I heard once that if you put a frog in a pot of boiling water it will jump
right out - immediately, But, they say (I really have never tried it
myself), if you put a frog in a pot of normal water and then slowly
bring the water to a boil, the frog will stay right inside the pot until it
boils to death.
Falling into routine in our friendship with God is like that. It's not as if
we suddenly become axe murderers or terrorists. Not at all! Rather,
we gradually let ourselves be drawn away from Christ, bit by bit, little
by little, without realizing it.
We ignore one little teaching of the Church, and then it becomes
easier to ignore another, and another, and another. We ignore our
conscience and give in to the temptation to lie a little bit, or to steal a
little bit, and then next time it's easier to ignore our conscience, and
the lie gets bigger. We love some of our neighbors as our-self, but we
treat others with indifference, as if Christ didn't die for them. At first
we ignore them, and then we start to criticize them when they're not
around, and pretty soon our hearts are boiling with anger and envy
and resentment, and our friendship with Christ is on the rocks, if it's
still alive at all. If we want to experience Christian joy, we have to
decide to do so. Christian joy is the feeling that comes from a fresh,
personal, living friendship with Christ, but that friendship has to be
based on more than feelings, it has to be based on virtue - the firm
and frequently renewed decision to stay close to Christ, to follow him,
to avoid boiling to death in routine, that deadly obstacle to Christian
joy. Use well this precious time of Lent to return to the Lord with all
your heart.
He has so much more he wants to give us, so much he wants to do in
our lives and through our lives. Above all, he wants us to experience
the profound and constant joy that only a deep, dynamic, personal
friendship with Christ can give. Today, let's ask God to give us the
grace we need to break out of our routines, and to help others who
may not be here today do the same. We can go out of our way to help
someone in little things - like giving up the better parking space, or
taking time to actually find information for someone instead of just
pointing them to the website. We can also go out of our way to help
someone in bigger things, like taking the family to visit a sick relative
in the hospital or the nursing home, or inviting the new family in the
neighborhood over for a welcome dinner, or volunteering your most
precious resource - time... Opportunities are all around us.

Over the forty years that the Israelites journeyed through the
desert, God provided them with manna to eat. As soon as they
were able to enjoy the fruits of the Promised Land the manna
ceased. Likewise, God’s blessings to us may change over the
years but it is important to trust that God will always provide us
with all that we need.

CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Queridos Parroquianos,
Una vez oí que si pones una rana en una olla con agua hirviendo ella
salta de allí inmediatamente, pero, (realmente nunca lo he probado
yo mismo), si pones una rana en una olla de agua normal y luego
poco a poco empieza el agua a hervir, la rana permanecerá dentro
de la olla hasta que se muera.
Caer en la rutina en nuestra amistad con Dios es así. No es como si
de repente nos volvemos asesinos o terroristas. ¡Nada de eso! Más
bien, es que poco a poco nos alejamos nosotros mismos de Cristo,
poco
a
poco,
poco
a
poco,
sin
darse
cuenta.
Ignoramos un poco la enseñanza de la iglesia, y entonces resulta
más fácil ignorar a otro y otro y otro. Ignorar nuestra conciencia y
ceder a la tentación de mentir un poco, o para robar un poco más y
entonces la próxima vez es más fácil de ignorar nuestra conciencia, y
la mentira se hace más grande. Algunos de nosotros amamos a
nuestros vecinos como a nuestro ser, pero tratamos a otros con
indiferencia, como si Cristo no murió por ellos solo por mí. Al
principio los ignoramos, y entonces empezamos a criticarlos cuando
no están alrededor nuestro y muy pronto nuestros corazones están
hirviendo de enojo de envidia y de resentimiento, y nuestra amistad
con Cristo se estrella contra las rocas, si todavía está vivo en todos
nosotros. Si queremos experimentar la alegría cristiana, tenemos que
decidirnos a hacerlo. La alegría cristiana es la sensación que
proviene de algo fresco, personal, vida de amistad con Cristo, pero
la amistad ha de basarse en algo más que sentimientos, tiene que
basarse en virtud - la decisión firme y renovada con frecuencia, para
estar cerca de Cristo, de seguirlo, para evitar hervir a muerte en la
rutina, ese obstáculo mortal a la alegría cristiana. Utilizar bien este
precioso tiempo de la Cuaresma para regresar al Señor con todo tu
corazón.
Él tiene mucho más que quiere darnos, Él quiere hacer mucho en
nuestras vidas y a través de nuestras vidas. Sobre todo, quiere que
experimentemos la alegría profunda y constante que sólo una
amistad profunda, dinámica, personal que Cristo nos puede dar. Hoy,
vamos a pedirle a Dios que nos dé la gracia que necesitamos para
salir de nuestras rutinas y para ayudar a otros que pueden no estar
aquí hoy. Podemos salir de nuestra manera de ayudar a alguien en
cosas pequeñas - como dar el mejor espacio de estacionamiento, o
tomar tiempo para realmente encontrar información para alguien en
lugar de sólo en el sitio Web. También podemos salir de nuestra
manera de ayudar a alguien en cosas más importantes, como la
familia, podemos visitar un enfermo en el hospital o clínica de
reposo, o invitar a la familia que acaba de mudarse al barrio a una
cena de bienvenida en nuestra casa, o ser voluntario dar lo más
preciado -su tiempo...Todas esas oportunidades están a nuestro
alrededor.

4to Domingo de Cuaresma
Que pongamos nuestra completa confianza en que Dios proveerá
nuestras necesidades, tal como les dió a los israelitas el maná
para que llegaran a la Tierra Prometida.
"Y el maná cesó el día después que habían comido del producto
de la tierra, y los hijos de Israel no tuvieron más maná, sino
que comieron del producto de la tierra de Canaán durante
aquel año” (Joshua 5:12)
Durante los cuarenta años que los israelitas vagaron por el
desierto, Dios les dio el maná para comer. Tan pronto como
fueron capaces de disfrutar de los frutos de la Tierra Prometida
dejo de caer maná. De la misma manera, la Bendición de Dios
para nosotros podría cambiar con el transcurso de los años, pero
es importante que confiemos que Dios siempre nos dará lo que
necesitemos.

Ayúdanos a meditar en tu Palabra para que
nos guíe…oremos al Señor Nuestro Dios...
Por 40 días Jesús hizo un recuento de su vida
– quien era el y cual era su misión. Estos
cuarenta días son llamados la Cuaresma. En
la Cuaresma, los Cristianos somos llamados a
un recuento especial de nuestras vidas, de
poner prioridades, de volver a pensar cual es
el significado de ser un administrador de los
dones de Dios. Que esta estación santa sea
para usted un tiempo para nuevamente contemplar las muchas
bendiciones recibidas de Dios y responderle con una generosa
entrega de nosotros mismos. Las entregas generosas siempre traen
recompensas y aunque éstas no nos protegen de las dificultades y los
caprichos de la vida, si nos aseguran una existencia mas completa y
mas profunda. Así como el final de la Cuaresma es el Domingo de
Resurrección, también el final de una vida generosa es de
satisfacción y alegría de haber compartido los dones recibidos de
Nuestro Señor. En medio de la tormenta, Jesús es despertado y da
órdenes a la naturaleza. Cuándo nosotros tenemos fe en Cristo en
medio de nuestros problemas y luchas, El interviene también y
restaura la calma en nuestras vidas. El nos regala su gracia, su paz,
su alegría y su perdón. Muy frecuentemente, nosotros no creemos
que El pueda realmente "calmar" nuestras preocupaciones y
problemas. Y Cristo nos dice: ¿Dónde está su valor? ¡Que fe tan
pequeña tenemos!” Cristo es el ancla de nuestras vidas diarias, y
cuando dejamos de tener fe y esperanza y paramos de ponerlo en el
centro de nuestras vidas cualquier ola o ráfaga de viento nos puede
destruir. Nos caemos y las "ondas" de la muerte nos rodean.
¡Permanezcamos con El siempre! ¡Cristo nos dará un nuevo sendero
cuando lo necesitemos y nos sentiremos siempre seguros de saber
que El es nuestro Salvador! Bendigamos y demos gracias al Señor
siempre, confiando en Su cuidado paternal.

REFLECTION ON STEWARDSHIP – Lent’s emphasis on prayer, fasting,
and almsgiving is an invitation to take a closer look at our stewardship. It is a
time to reassess how we are using the gifts God has entrusted to us and to
resolve anew to use our time and resources in the service of His kingdom.
What identifies a steward? Safeguarding material and human resources and
using them responsibly are one answer; so is generous giving of time, talent,
and treasure. But being a Christian steward means more. As Christian stewards,
we receive God’s gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly
in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord. You’re
concerned about the hungry in the world, millions who are starving… and you
ask, “What can I do?” FEED ONE - You grieve for all the unborn children
murdered every day and you ask, “What can I do?” SAVE ONE –
OPERATION RICE BOWL - We are disciples for all
nations. As Jesus’ disciples, we are called to care for our brothers
sisters in all nations. Each year, Operation
and
Rice Bowl invites us to pray with our
families and faith communities; fast in
solidarity with those who hunger; learn
more about our global community and
the challenges of poverty overseas; and
give sacrificial contributions to those in
need. Again, and during Lent, we will
have little purple boxes at the exit doors to
collaborate with donations which will be used
to help the hungry and the poor in other countries. Please pick up
your box today and return it in the Easter Sunday collection
baskets.

PLATO DE ARROZ - Cada año, Operación Plato de Arroz nos
a rezar con nuestras familias y comunidades de fe; ayunar
en solidaridad con los que sufren hambre; aprender
acerca de la comunidad mundial y las dificultades
de los que se enfrentan a la pobreza; y dar
limosnas, frutos de nuestros sacrificios, a los
necesitados. Somos discípulos para todas las
naciones. Los discípulos de Jesús tenemos la
responsabilidad de cuidar a nuestros hermanos y
hermanas en todas las naciones. Una vez mas y
durante la Cuaresma, tendremos cajitas en la parte
posterior de la Iglesia para colaborar con donativos
que
serán usados para aliviar el hambre, pobreza, y
enfermedad en países más pobres que el nuestro. Favor de regresar sus cajitas en
las canastas de colecta durante las Misas del Domingo de Resurrección. ¡Muchas

St. Anthony of Padua Relic Visit to the Archdiocese
February 19-28
The Franciscan Friars invite you to join them in welcoming Saint
Anthony of Padua. St. Anthony will be visiting us in the form of a
precious relic from his Basilica in Padua, Italy. The relic will be
accompanied by a friar from the Messenger of St. Anthony in Padua and
the relic will travel to several parishes in the area.
LAUGH LINES There was the wealthy women who died, went to
heaven, and was given a bicycle to ride over the golden streets.
Pedaling along, she saw her maid go by in a Cadillac and her
garderner pass her in a Rolls Royce. She immediately filed a
complaint with St. Peter.
Peter explained, “The kind of
transportation you are assigned in heaven depends on how good a
person you were on earth.” Two days later St. Peter saw her
pedaling by, laughing. “What’s so funny?” he asked. “Yesterday I
saw my pastor going by on a pair of roller skates.”
