It is already the Fourth Sunday of Lent. This weekend, like the one weekend in Advent, is when the color changes from purple/violet to rose. And for this weekend we are permitted to decorate with flowers and use more musical accompaniment than we do for the rest of the season. This weekend is known in our Roman Catholic tradition as Laetare Sunday, meaning “be joyful.” (If you can recall, you heard that message “Be joyful” in the chanted entrance antiphon that the choir leads before the opening hymn of the Mass.) These are all cues that we are more than halfway through Lent and we need to be making serious efforts to prepare ourselves to more worthily and joyfully observe the sacred and solemn feast of Easter. in attendance. It is always my goal to offer abundant times for confessions because this is a vitally important sacrament that needs to be received regularly and frequently. With our many weekly and special offerings, it would be difficult to claim that one could not make it to confession at some point. Thus, please be aware of the schedule, plan ahead, and make your confession a priority for the improvement of your life with Jesus. Please be aware of the many regular weekly confession times we offer and the additional times we are offering during Lent. These weekly times are replacing the custom of doing one night with several priests Sincerely in Christ, Annual Catholic Family Day at Chickasaw located at St. Damien's Church in north Edmond. Fourth Sunday of Lent - 2nd Scrutiny "Jesus said to them, 'If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you are saying, "We see," so your sin remains.'" This Gospel reading is about more than the man born physically blind. It is also about the spiritual blindness of the Pharisees. These men refused to believe in Jesus, even after the miraculous healing that occurred at his hands that day. Instead, the Pharisees were obsessed with finding fault with Jesus, trying to come up with some way to accuse him of wrongdoing rather than to praise him as God. The blind man who regained his sight, on the other hand, was ready and willing to believe. He stands as an example of a man with full sight, not just bodily vision but the vision of the soul as well. This man, whom the Pharisees kept belittling as a sinner, was really the righteous one. The Pharisees, who insisted on their righteousness, were the ones who were blind to their own unbelief and sin. We must be sure not to be like the Pharisees. As believers and practicing Christians, it can be too easy to begin to think of ourselves as the "righteous" ones. When we have a puffed-up opinion of ourselves, it is sometimes tempting to look at those around us and judge them as being spiritually inferior to us. The season of Lent is the perfect antidote to this pharisaical tendency. During Lent, we stop. We take a real, honest look at ourselves. We pray for the grace to recognize our own sins, especially the ones we have become blind to through frequent repetition or have rationalized through our elaborate excuses. Jesus says that he came "so that those who do not see might see." Indeed, he has the cure for our blindness too. 8 Welcome to St. Monica Catholic Church 2015 Archdiocesan Development Fund (ADF) Appeal Update (as of 2/27/2015) Target: $98,235 Amount Pledged: $83,119 Pledge Balance: $56,230 Pledge Payments: $1,130 Total Cash: $25,759 Total Donors: 196 Clase Pre-Bautismal La próxima Clase Pre-Bautismal se llevará a cabo el: sábado 21 de marzo a las 3:00 p.m en la oficina de la parroquia. Fourth Sunday of Lent MENSAJE DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO En mi estimación Cuaresma parece estar avanzando extraordinariamente rápido este año.
