Employees deliberately ignore security rules
Fellow members,
Below is an arcle of a study that shows our own employees are our biggest vulnerability in IT Security. As we
know, employees also play a crical role in physical security, so please share this informaon with those that will
help close the holes that leave our companies suscepble to security breaches.
A recent survey from Lieberman So"ware reveals that more than 80% of IT security professionals
believe that corporate employees deliberately ignore security rules issued by the IT department.
The survey, which looked at the a&tudes of nearly 250 IT security professionals, also discovered that more than
half of those who think that workers deliberately ignore IT security direcves do not believe end-users would
listen more even if these mandates were issued by execuve management.
These findings are despite the fact that more IT security professionals and vendors are insisng that in order to
improve IT security within organizaons, strategic guidance must be issued from the board level.
Commenng on the research, Philip Lieberman, CEO of Lieberman So"ware, said: “These figures
highlight the fact that most end-users are sll not taking IT security seriously and are unnecessarily pu&ng
corporate data – and potenally customer informaon – at risk”.
These behaviors are connuing even a"er it has been proven that human error is the leading cause of data
breaches. Organizaons need to implement be5er cyber security training that properly instructs staff about the
consequences of data breaches.
“IT groups must also look beyond convenonal security products and invest in technology like privileged identy
management (PIM),” connued Lieberman. “PIM products ensure that powerful privileged
accounts found throughout the enterprise in large organizaons are available only to authorized IT
personnel with limited-me, audited access. This ensures that end-users are not able to accidentally or maliciously
change configuraon se&ngs, access systems with sensive data, or perform other acons that are not required
of their jobs”. The Hyperlink is LINK

Placement Chair
The biggest challenge in this posion is our decreasing job market. When I first started this
posion over two years ago I received numerous job announcements from both internal
(chapter members) and external sources. Over the past year there has only been a handful of
announcements sent my way through both sources. With this said I can only ask each of you to
please keep your ear to the ground and assist me in this process. We do have a few members
sll looking for opportunies, so please if you become aware of them send them my way.

For all others wondering about potenal opportunies… As I receive announcements I will check
them for accuracy (as best as possible) and have them posted on the local chapter webpage and
sent out via email to all chapter membership. For those who are possibly looking for a
government posion, I recommend reviewing the following site and building a profile (this will
allow you to quickly submit an applicaon if a posion becomes available): Federal Jobs:
www.usajobs.gov.
Also, there are countless non-federal web sites. Each has their own strengths and weakness.
I have not noced whether one is be5er than the other. Some of these job search sites include:
www.job.com, www.careerbuilder.com, www.clearancejobs.com and www.Monster.com.
Addionally, we cannot post an enre resume in this secon, due to the space available. Again,
we are a networking organizaon so I am hoping we can all help out our fellow members as best
as possible.

Membership Chair
Our chapter connues to add new members. This brings The San Antonio Chapter of ASIS areas of experse and
professional connecons to new and excing companies and organizaons. Overall, ASIS Internaonal boasts 38,000
members around the globe, many of whom are having their greatest impact at the chapter level. An increasing number of
companies and organizaons are showing a desire or even a requirement for CPP, PSP and PCI cerficaon.
All the more reason for you to reach out to colleagues and peers and share the value of membership.
In an effort to enhance membership, ASIS Internaonal has created a Get a Member program. Individual members
and the chapter can earn valuable awards, including the following: Free registraon and lodging to the Annual Seminar
and Exhibits in Chicago as well as registraon fee credit on ASIS professional development programs or ASIS-published
books. They are also offering individual quarterly prizes for Individuals. If you recruit at least two people you will be
entered into a quarterly raffle for a prize. Three winners are chosen each quarter. As an example, for the second quarter
of this year, the prize is a Nikon-Coolpix 16.1 Megapixel Compact Camera. So please bring your peers and professional
colleagues to a future meeng and let them see the value of membership.
More details are available at www.asisonline.org.
On a personal note, I have accepted a leadership posion with the Naonal Nuclear Security Administraon, Office of
Defense Nuclear Security, or pehaps it is Nucular?
I will keep my home and chapter affiliaon in San Antonio, but will be working from Washington DC. I will connue to
support Chapter acvies as I can. I will not connue to serve as your Membership Chairman or on the LEAL Commi5ee.
I wish each of you the best and hope to see you on my frequent visits to San Antonio.
