JOSEPH 07/17/2016 From the desk of Father Philip In the Catholic Traditional spirituality we are always sensitive about the wonderful effect of Divine Love. A deep sense of gratitude to God’s Love and His Mercy will help us to be humble and to acknowledge that with the awareness that we do not deserve it. We receive God’s love and Mercy through His Son our Lord Jesus Christ. And we praise and glorify God the Father through His only-begotten Son. It is very important to consider Him as our true Lover who is always generously coming into us and fills our hearts with the Joy that He alone can give. When we spent time reflecting on Him, we realize our love is weak and virtue imperfect. We need to acknowledge that only He can strengthen us and comfort us. We must long for the joy of His presence in us. We must pray to Him to teach us His holy discipline. We must pray for the freedom from evil passions and to cleanse our hearts of all disorderly affections. The result will be that we will be healed and purified within, though unworthy to love Him, we will feel fit to do so, strong to suffer and frim to persevere. The more we spend time with the Lord longing for Him in our hearts, the stronger our devotion to Him. This is how we grow in spiritual intensity. With that experience of the Lord’s love and presence, we will feel the power of His love. It bears any burden without being weighted and renders sweet all that is bitter. This is the secret of all the saints and martyrs.in the history of the church. This Love wishes to be free and estranged from all worldly affections lest its inward sight be obstructed, lest it be entangled in any temporal interest and overcome by adversity. Nothing is more desirable than this Holy Love neither in heaven nor on earth. Love is born of God and cannot rest except in God, who is above all the created things. Our souls will have the strength to overcome all obstacles. It forces its way upward and passes unharmed through every obstacle. When we really love, we know the voice of love. We hear its voice in the heart. This warm affection of soul is a loud voice crying in the ears of God. The soul sincerely prays, “ My God, my love, You are all mine and I am all yours. Give me an increase of love … let me rise above self in great fervor and wonder, let my soul exhaust itself in praising you, let me love you more than myself. The soul will understand what Jesus meant when He said to love God and to love others. The soul will pray, “in You let me love all those who truly love You, as the law of love which shines forth from You. The true test of this spiritual growth in genuine love is: it is not self-seeking, it is humble and upright, will not intent on vain things, it is sober and chaste, firm and quiet, and guarded in all senses. It is subject and obedient to superiors, always devoted and thankful to God. Always trusting and Hoping in God even when one is hit by inexplicable adversities. A lover must embrace willingly all that is difficult and bitter for the sake of the beloved. When we are spiritually stronger in love for God, we should not turn away from Him because of adversities. This spiritual journey requires training from infancy. We must train our children to love God from the heart every day.. For more information visit our website at: https://NCMarriageDiscovery.org or contact us at [email protected] or 704-315-2144. WATCH YOUR POSTURE Our posture is often a tip-off to our hospitality and reverence for the Lord. Note the actions of Abraham as he greeted the Lord in the presence of three men who appeared near his tent. He ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them. He bowed to the ground as he met them. He and Sarah, his wife, hastened to prepare a meal and bring food and water to their guests. In the Gospel story, Jesus’ friend Mary sat at his feet in order to listen to him speak. How do we welcome and reverence the Lord? What do our actions show? Do we remember the Lord’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament? How do we welcome the Lord in the scripture readings? How do we acknowledge his presence in our brothers and sisters, both at Mass and af- FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION IS BEGINNING: YOU WILL NEED A COPY OF YOUR CHILD’S BIRTH , FIRST COMMUNION AND BAPTISM CERTIFICATES—IF THEY WERE DONE HERE AT ST. The collapsed society had three basic divisions: those who work, those who fight, and those who pray. There wasn’t a great deal of movement among the ranks, yet one way to move out of the workers and the fighters was in the direction of the folks who prayed. These were the First Estate, the clergy. Astute Protestant reformers then forced the Catholic world toward a more educated and able clergy. Before that, young men apprenticed with a priest to learn the essentials, and would be presented to the bishop for ordination. Other priests emerged from the university system, where students were required to be invested as clerics. Still others were monks, ordained not so much for ministry outside the monastic walls, but to offer Mass only for the intentions of the community’s benefactors. —Rev.
