April 17, 2016 • Fourth Sunday of Easter
Good Shepherd Sunday:
World Day of Prayer for Vocations
This Sunday celebrates Jesus as “the Good
Shepherd.” When announcing this Jubilee Year
of Mercy, Pope Francis focused on Jesus’ “lost
sheep” parable in Luke. “[Who] among you,”
Jesus asks, “having a hundred sheep and
losing one of them would not leave the ninetynine in the desert and go after the lost one until
he finds it?” (Luke 15:4). A reasonable answer?
“No responsible shepherd who wants to keep the
job!” Yet Jesus considers one lost person supremely
important and suggests blaming the shepherd. The sheep
didn’t “go astray,” the shepherd “lost” it. Thus, “when he
does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy” (15:5).
That tender image of Jesus adorns the simple cross Pope
Francis has always worn, the Good Shepherd gently carrying
the lost sheep home on his shoulders. During this Jubilee
Year of Mercy, may we, who once were lost ourselves but
now are found, join Jesus in seeking, finding, and gently
carrying home at least one precious lamb.

Early Mothers’ Day at Alpha

our brightly colored baby bottles will be at the church door next
week, earlier than usual. This is our traditional Change for Life
fundraiser: we hope that you will pick up a bottle, take it home,
fill it up with your spare change and/or bills and checks, and
bring it back on Fathers’ Day. ALPHA’S mission to support those
facing the challenges of pregnancy and early parenthood makes
this Mothers’ Day to Fathers’ Day a special time to ask for your
support. Your change will help ALPHA continue to bring about
changes in the lives of the many people we help. ALPHA is about
strengthening families, one baby at a time!
ALPHA’s central office is located at 11549 Los Osos Valley Road across from the
Laguna Valley Shopping Center. For information on office hours and satellite

R
EFLECTION OF THE WEEK
April 17, 2016
Fourth Sunday of Easter
There are two notions that need
to be taken on faith as they are
presented in the Gospel passage
where Jesus identifies himself
as the Good Shepherd. The first
mystery is that those who are
given the gift of faith to hear the
invitation Jesus presents, will
follow him. The second mystery
involves the unbreakable bond that
exists between the Shepherd and
the person who hears the invitation.
Once a person responds to the
invitation, he or she belongs
to God forever.
Reflection question:
Adults: Whom do you try to protect
as Christ protects you?
Children: Who helps you feel safe
and protected? Whom can you take
care of and help feel safe?

llamados a seguir a Jesús.

A
a casa.
fuimos encontrados, unámonos a Jesús a buscan encontrar y
