Fairview Park is Open!
¡Fairview Park está Abierto!

After so many years of planning,
hoping, working and waiting, Fairview
Park is open. It is beautiful, and here for
everyone to enjoy. For the young ones,
there is a playground for climbing, sliding
and jumping. For young and old alike
there are tennis courts, basketball courts,
volleyball court, a baseball field, horseshoe pit, walking track and picnic shelter.
The grand opening was on a chilly
Saturday, April 9th filled with nothing but
warm feelings. The Fairview Community
Watch and Orange County Department of
Recreation planned and hosted the celebration. The Fairview Community Watch
Singers warmed the crowd with “We’ve
Come This Far by Faith” and “Thank you,
Thank you Thank you Lord.”
To top off the celebration women
of the Fairview Community Watch, organized by Dorothy Johnson, served their
homemade cakes and refreshments.

NEW BUS SERVICE IN FAIRVIEW

NUEVO SERVICIO DE AUTOBÚS

The town of Hillsborough is working with Orange County on creating a new, FREE, bus service. The
bus will run in a figure 8 loop and will connect with the
existing Triangle Transit Authority’s Route 420 at the
Durham Technical College.
The bus loop will begin at Fairview Park, with
stops at Faucette Mill/Cornelius street, West King Street
(at the Village Diner and near the Recreation Dept.), Library, Dept. of Social Services, Orange County Durham
Tech College, Hampton Pointe, Senior Center/Sportsplex, Orange County Courthouse, North Hill
Plaza, and other residential stops.
This new free service is possible through the
funding of a 3 year grant. If it is not used it will be discontinued. The starting date has not yet been determined. Watch for it in the local papers and the Hillsborough website. Please take full advantage of this great
opportunity.

Construction of the sidewalk from Faucette Mill
Road to the End of Nash Street will be completed this
summer. Work has been halted because of the condition and location of the existing water and sewer lines.
Revised plans and additional funds call for new water
and sewer lines plus additional storm water improvements on Nash Street. Trench work with curb, gutter,
sidewalk and handicap ramp start at the section across
from Highway 70.

Alice Currie has been elected Chairman of Fairview Community Watch, succeeding Brian Lowen. She

girls and two boys. One of her children lives with her in
Fairview and another lives nearby on Nash Street.

community for A Brush with Kindness, a program that
helps homeowners maintain the exterior of their home.
Any homeowner can a apply for this program that could
assist with exterior painting, landscaping, and minor
repairs.
Hands for Habitat: The “Hands for Habitat” partnership
is engaging students in Orange County Schools in an
ambitious service-learning project designed to increase
awareness of issues surrounding housing and affordability.

A TRIP AROUND FAIRVIEW PARK
UNA VUELTA EN EL PARQUE

Boys and Girls, Let’s take an exciting trip around
Fairview Park. What an amazing opportunity we have to
explore the Park and see the numerous activities we can
participate in. Our trip begins under the shelter where
we can have picnics, read a book, play board games,
have parties, write stories and even role play. Then we
can move on to the tennis court, the basketball court,
the baseball field and the soccer field where we’re going
to have a great time! We might even play football!
Next we’ll pitch horse shoes or play on the new
playground equipment. Whatever our choice we’re going to have a great time. Just think, we can race, skip
and jump all the way around the track! This is going to
be so much fun for us after school, weekends, and during the summer!
Chicos y chicas, vamos a tomar un emocionante
viaje alrededor de Fairview Park. ¡Qué gran oportunidad
que tenemos que explorar el parque y ver las numerosas
actividades que pueden participar pulg Nuestro viaje

Lori Taft and David Stancil welcomed and thanked
everyone for their patience and participation. Bernadette
Pelisser and Barry Jacobs, County Commissioners echoed
the thanks and congratulations. Brian Lowen, Mayor pro
tem and former chairman of the Fairview Community
Watch reminded us of the hard work and dedication it
took to make this park a reality. Rev. William Richardson
prayed and encouraged us take care of our park and not
tolerate any unpleasant activity.

Voice your opinions at the
Unwanted trash
dumping
Descargando Basura
A few thoughtless people
are dumping trash illegally. The
problem has been especially noted
on Tulip Tree Drive and Faucette
Mill Road. If you see anyone dumping, try to get the license number
and a description of the vehicle, if it
is safe for you to do so. Call 911 or
the Fairview Community Policing
Station at 732-2441 to report it.
Sometimes the police can identify
the culprit by an address in the garbage. We all need to help keep our
community a place of pride.
