From the Pastor
Jesus said, “But from the beginning of creation, God made
them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his
father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two
shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one
flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human
being must separate."
From the beginning of the human race, marriage,
between one man and one woman has been the keystone of a
strong society. When husbands and wives are united in a
self-giving, exclusive love for one another their relationship
can weather any storm. Their love blossoms and their children as well as the culture that surrounds grow in perfection.
Marriage between the baptized is truly a Sacrament that
makes God’s grace shine forth and even gives the spouses a
foretaste of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Marriage, like any other vocation to be sure, has its
challenges. I’ve found that if there is an institution under
more strain, or spiritual and cultural attack today, I would
argue that it’s Marriage as instituted by God. And as the
family goes, so goes society. Since the union of husband
and wife is the concrete image of the love Jesus has for his
Church it’s small wonder why the devil hates fruitful and
loving marriages. It’s also the reason he, and those under his
influence, try so desperately to get spouses to turn on one
another or even to keep those who love each other from entering marriage.
If we look at the beginning chapters of the book of
Genesis we see how Adam and Eve rejoiced in each other’s
company and love. Satan, in the form of a serpent, succeeds
in slithering his way in between the two lovers. Some may
say it was Eve’s fault for eating the fruit, others say it was
Adam’s since he let his wife be tempted and did nothing to
stop it. If he were a real man, the thinking goes, he would
have hit that snake with a big stick and said, “Get away from
my wife!” As it stands, both were to blame and the consequences were terrible. As soon as they sinned they began to
conceal themselves from each other, as if they harbored secrets. They certainly began to mistrust and even betray each
other. “The Woman YOU put here gave me the fruit so I ate
it”, replies Adam to God. As a result of sin, their purity,
friendship, and love were damaged. The worst part is, Satan
still uses this ‘divide and conquer’ mentality to break up
marriages in our day.
But there is good news. Because marriage between
two baptized Christians is a sacrament, the couple can always rely on the power of God to overcome temptation.
They can establish a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit in
their relationship which extends to their children, families,
and neighbors. There is always hope. If I could ask you
who are married to do one thing to strengthen your relationship please pray together, every day. When couples do not
or will not share that intimate action of spiritual communion
with God they are cutting themselves off from a wealth of
grace. But when they do pray, look out! God himself seals
and strengthens their love and makes it a perfect love that
reaches out even to their neighbors.

parishioners over a cup of coffee, delicious baked

Respect Life. October is Respect Life Month. The first Sunday of the month is Respect Life Sunday. The US Conference of Catholic Bishop’s theme this year is Faith Opens
Our Eyes to Human Life in All Its Grandeur and Beauty.
We will have an education table on the west patio after the
Sunday Masses in October.
St. Charles Youth Group will be outside the
doors after all the morning Masses TODAY selling newspapers. Please support the Youth!
COINS AND CANS WEEKEND is this weekend. All coins received in the offering will be donated to St. Charles Food Bank to re-supply its
pantry. Cereals are always welcome. Food and
baby items brought to the church will be distributed to the people of our own parish or given to BIRTHLINE to help expectant mothers in need. God bless you for

Pope Benedict XVI has declared the following to be
called The Year of Faith. Beginning October 11, 2012
through November 24 of 2013 we have been called upon
to deepen our Faith in God and the Church. In order to
do this please stay tuned for a year long series of workshops and retreats which we hope you will attend. The
calendar should be out in the next two weeks. I look forward to walking this journey with you as we deepen our
