cielo tu luz, para iluminarnos”.

Today the church celebrates the Solemnity of
Pentecost. The Easter of the Holy Spirit! I would
like to share with you this verse from the Sequence
to the Holy Spirit, the most ancient liturgical hymn
and an inspired and serene canticle.
Hoy la Iglesia celebra la solemnidad de
Pentecostés. ¡Pascua del Espíritu Santo! Quisiera
compartir contigo esta estrofa de la secuencia al
Espíritu Santo, el más antiguo himno litúrgico, un
cántico sereno e inspirado.
But what does the Holy Spirit mean for the members
of the Church?
¿Pero qué significa el Espíritu Santo para los
miembros de la Iglesia?
Pope Paul VI said: The Holy Spirit is the one who
“illuminates,” “vivifies,” “protects,” and “governs” the
Church.
El Papa Pablo VI decía: El Espíritu Santo es quien
“ilumina”, “vivifica”, “protege” y “rige” la Iglesia.
Let us reflect on the significance of “to be
illuminated by the light of the Holy Spirit.”
Reflexionemos sobre lo que significa,
iluminados por la luz del Espíritu Santo”.
The beginning of the Gospel of John tells us: “the
light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has
not overcome it” Jn 1:5.
El comienzo del Evangelio de Juan nos dice: “la luz
brilló en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no la
comprendieron” Jn 1,5.
I believe this is one of the fear of men and women,
to “live locked in our own worlds” at times in spiritual
darkness and mediocrity and not allow ourselves to
be enlightened by the Holy Spirit, who comes from
God.
He is the sacred, divine light who is
manifested from the Book of Genesis to the book of
Revelations. It is the nourishment of the life of God
that feeds and transforms us if we let it penetrate
our story of salvation.
Creo que este es uno de los miedos del hombre y la
mujer, “vivir encerrados en nuestro mundo, a veces
de tinieblas y mediocridades espirituales, y no
dejarnos iluminar por el Espíritu Santo, que
proviene de Dios, él es la luz divina, sagrada, que
se manifiesta desde el libro del Génesis, hasta el
libro del Apocalipsis. Es el alimento de la vida de
Dios que nos alimenta, nos transforma, si lo
dejamos penetrar en nuestra historia de la
salvación.
A few years ago some young people visited a beach
in the Caribbean, where they found a beautiful
stone. It was white as snow and one of the
archeology students who accompanied them
decided to break it apart to find out what was inside.
It was a big surprise, when he confirmed that the
stone was dry on the inside.

The Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe supports the essential and unused pastoral

SYNOD
On April 3, 2012, Archbishop Thomas
Wenski convoked the Second
General Synod of the Church of the
Archdiocese of Miami while
celebrating the annual Chrism Mass
at the Cathedral of St Mary.
Archbishop Wenski’s challenge to all
of the faithful of the South Florida
Church is “to become evermore generously
disciples in faith, missionaries of hope.”
The Synod is a process of listening to the people of
God, followed by pastoral planning based upon
what was heard. The work of the Synod will
establish the priorities of the Archdiocese for the
next 3-4 years. Please have your voice heard by
attending a listening session and sharing your
vision for the local Church. At the listening session
you will be asked to complete a Feedback Form,
and your answers will be included in the body of
work looked at by the Synod Team. Reservations
are not required. For more information regarding

SINODO
El 2 de abril del 2012, el Arzobispo Thomas Wenski convocó el Segundo Sínodo General de la
Arquidiócesis de Miami durante la celebración de la Misa Crismal en la Catedral de Santa
María. El Arzobispo presentó un reto a todos los fieles de la Iglesia en el Sur de la Florida a:
“que seamos cada vez más generosos como discípulos en la fe, misioneros de esperanza”.
El Sínodo es una audiencia con el pueblo de Dios seguido por el desarrollo de un plan pastoral
tomando en cuenta lo compartido durante ese proceso. El trabajo del Sínodo establecerá las
prioridades de la arquidiócesis durante los próximos 3 a 4 años. Por favor, haga escuchar su
voz asistiendo a una de las sesiones de opinión para compartir su misión para la Iglesia local. Durante las
sesiones de opinión se le pedirá que complete una Forma de Evaluación, y sus respuestas serán tomadas

Diácono nació en Nicaragua y viene de una familia
muy numerosa: 9 hermanos y 1 hermana. Sus

“The stone had been in water many years, but the water had not penetrated it.”
Attention! The stone had been in water for years, but did not allow the water to penetrate it. The same can
happen, when you do not allow “the Holy Spirit to illuminate your life.” Its light shines in the sacraments of
Confession and Communion and yet, sometimes, you do not allow its light and love to penetrate into you.
Let us pray to the Holy Spirit that our hearts may be opened to forgive the trespasses that we have not been
able to forgive, the fears that make us distrust, the idols of power, and the ambition that enslaves us and You
want to free us from and the loneliness that You want to fill.
I take this opportunity to remind you that tomorrow is Memorial Day. I invite you to pray and remember our
fallen soldiers in wars who fought for freedom in the world.

SAINT OF THE WEEK — The Visitation of the Virgin Mary
The Church celebrates the feast of the Visitation of Our Lady to her cousin Elizabeth.
The Gospel of Luke describes: “During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill
country in haste to a town in Judah … and greeted Elizabeth” Lk 1:39-40. The trip lasted
around 4 days because it was a mountainous region. Upon seeing Mary enter,
Elizabeth, with open arms of excitement and praise said: “Most blessed are you among
women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does it happen to me that the
mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting
reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy” Lk 1:42-44.
Mary lived in Nazareth with Joseph. Before that the Angel Gabriel had visited and greeted her with the title
“full of grace” to give her the biggest news: she had been chosen to be the Mother of the Messiah. She
answered: “I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” Lk 1:38.
Mary, full of the Holy Spirit, exclaimed: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord ...For he has looked
upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed” Lk 1:46-48.
This feast was instituted by Pope Urbano VI in 1389. It has been changed to the last day of May. This feast
invites us to have the same disposition of service towards our neighbor as the Blessed Virgin Mary had for
the elders Zachariah and Elizabeth.

¡Atención! “La piedra llevaba años dentro del agua, pero no se dejó penetrar por el agua”. Así puede
suceder cuando no dejas “iluminar tu vida por la luz del Espíritu Santo”. Su luz brilla en los sacramentos de
la Confesión, en la Comunión, y sin embargo a veces no te dejas penetrar de su luz y de su amor.
Oremos al Espíritu Santo, que nos abra el corazón, para perdonar las ofensas que no hemos podido
perdonar, los miedos que nos hacen desconfiar, los ídolos del poder, la ambición que nos esclaviza, y de la
que tú nos quieres liberar, y la soledad que tú quieres llenar.
Aprovecho la oportunidad para recordarles que mañana es Memorial Day, les invito a orar y recordar a
nuestros soldados caídos en las guerras, por la libertad en el mundo.

SANTA DE LA SEMANA — Visitación de la Virgen María
La Iglesia celebra la fiesta de la Visitación de nuestra Señora a su prima santa Isabel. El
Evangelio de San Lucas nos describe que: “María, en aquellos días, se puso en camino,
y fue de prisa a la montaña, a una ciudad de Judá .. y saludó a Isabel Lc 1,39-40. El
viaje duraba alrededor de cuatro días; era una región montañosa. Al verla entrar, Isabel
con los brazos abiertos de emoción y alabanzas dijo: ¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres y
bendito el fruto de tu vientre! ¿Quién soy yo para que me visite la madre de mi Señor?
Al oír la voz de tu saludo en mis oídos, la criatura saltó de gozo en mi vientre Lc 1,42-44.
Vivía María con José en Nazareth. Anteriormente el ángel Gabriel la había visitado y la saludó con el título
de “llena de gracia”, para hacerla partícipe de la más grande noticia: Que había sido escogida para ser
Madre del Mesías. Y ella contestó: “He aquí la sierva del Señor; hágase en mi según tu palabra” Lc 1,38.
María, llena del Espíritu Santo, exclamó: “Mi alma glorifica al Señor ... porque ha mirado la humildad de su
sierva y en adelante me felicitarán todas las generaciones” Lc 1,46-48.
Esta fiesta fue instituida por el papa Urbano VI, en 1389, y ha sido trasladada al último día de mayo. Esta
celebración nos invita a tener la misma disposición de servicio al prójimo, como la Santísima Virgen María a
los ancianos Zacarías e Isabel.
