HOPE AND LIFE
Today’s readings tell the story of two widows.
The first reading relates the plight of the widow
with whom the prophet Elijah stayed; the Gospel
tells about the widow of Nain. In each story, the
widow’s only son had died. For people who lived in those
cultures, the son was the only support of a widow, and
the carrying on of the family name by the son was equal
to immortality. A widow whose only son has died could
lose all hope.
Elijah and Jesus are the restorers of hope; they bring
the sons back to life. Saint Paul was metaphorically
raised from the dead when he experienced the conversion and call from God that he describes in today’s second reading.
What are Christians called to do today? We may not
be able to raise the dead, but perhaps we can rekindle
hope for a single parent. We may not be able to convert
a persecutor like Paul, but if we speak the gospel openly
and gently with our lives, we might touch a life with the

Las Escrituras del hoy nos cuentan la historia de
dos viudas. La primera lectura relata la difícil situación en la que vivía la viuda con la que el profeta Elías se quedó y el Evangelio cuenta la historia de la viuda de Naín, en cada una de estas historias
cada viuda el hijo único de ellas murió. En la cultura de
esos países en ese tiempo, el hijo era el sustento para
la viuda y quien además continuaba la descendencia
familiar que era igual a la inmortalidad. La viuda cuyo
único hijo hubiera muerto perdía toda esperanza.
Elías y Jesús son los restauradores de esperanza;
ellos devuelven la vida a sus hijos. San Pablo, metafóricamente hablando, revivió de la muerte a la vida cuando él se convirtió después de la llamada de Dios de la
que él habla en la segunda lectura.
¿A qué están llamados los cristianos hoy en día?
Quizá no podemos revivir de la muerte, pero quizá podemos reanimar la esperanza de un padre o una madre
soltera. Quizá no podemos convertir a un perseguidor
como Pablo, pero si abiertamente hacemos vida el
Evangelio en nuestras vidas, podríamos tocar una vida

Fathers’ Day Novena
In celebration of Fathers’ Day, we will
have a Novena of Masses. The series
of 9 Masses will begin with the Anticipated Mass of Sunday at 5:00 PM on
this Saturday June 15th and include
every Mass on Sunday, June 16th
(Fathers’ Day) through the Daily Mass
of Thursday, June 20th.
You can enroll your father, father-in-law, grandfather (living
or deceased) in the Novena simply by writing his/their name
(s) on the Novena Envelope (included in the donation envelope packet as well as available on the table in the vestibule)
and submitting the envelope with your contribution to the
parish in the regular collection or bringing it to the Parish Office. Final turn in time is the 8:00 AM Mass on Saturday, June
15th.

Fr. Glenn celebrates last Masses at our parish
On June 24th Fr. Glenn will leave us for his new ministry at our Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien,
IL. At his request, we will not be having a parish wide farewell celebration, so he has been assigned
to our weekend Masses in a way that allows him a “last Mass” with each worshipping community.
Bidding him farewell can be done after these Masses. On the weekend of June 15-16, he will be presiding at the 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM Masses on Sunday. On the weekend of June 22-23, he will be presiding at the 5:00 PM Mass on Saturday and 10:00 AM Mass on Sunday.
El Padre Glenn celebrará sus últimas Misas en nuestra Parroquia
El Padre Glenn nos dejará el 24 de junio, e irá a su nuevo ministerio en nuestro Centro Espiritual Carmelita en Darien, Il. El ha pedido que no lo despidamos con un celebración de toda la parroquia, por lo
que se le han asignado las Misas del fin de semana de modo que le permita un “última Misa” con cada
comunidad. Se le puede despedir después de estas Misas. El fin de semana de junio 15-16, el oficiará
en las Misas de 8:00 AM y 7:00 PM del domingo. El fin de semana de Junio 22 y 23, el oficiará las Misas de 5:00 PM el sábado y 10:00 AM el domingo

Our parish is joining with two other faith communities (St. Pius X Parish and the Jewish Community
Relations Council) to sponsor the June POZ Café
for Tihan (Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network)!
Tihan is an organization that gives support and
fellowship to people living with HIV/AIDS. The POZ
Café is an opportunity for these individuals to get out of the
house, take a break, meet other positive people and enjoy a
meal prepared by local congregations.
There are two ways that you can help. First, we are collecting deodorant, tooth brushes and feminine hygiene products.
The second way to help is to volunteer to come and cook and
serve the meal (on Thursday, June 20th at St. Pius X Parish
from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM). We are looking for 5-7 volunteers.
If you wish to donate items, you can bring them to church
sometime over the next three weekends, placing the items into
a specially designated box in the vestibule. If you are interested in cooking and/or serving the meal, please contact either

(Tucson Interfaith HIV/IDS Network)! Tihan es
una organización que da apoyo y amistad a
personas que viven con SIDA (HIV/AIDS). El Café POZ es
una oportunidad para que estas personas salgan de su casa,
descansen, conozcan a otras personas positivas y disfruten
de alimentos preparados por congregaciones locales.
Existen 2 formas en que Ud. Puede ayudar. Primero, estamos juntando desodorantes, cepillos de dientes y productos
de higiene femenina. La otra forma de ayudar es ofrecerse
a venir y cocinar y servir la comida (el jueves 20 de junio en
la Parroquia de St. Pius X de 8:00 AM a 2:00 PM). Necesitamos de 5 a 7 voluntarios. Si usted desea donar artículos,
los puede traer a la iglesia durante los 3 próximos fines de
semana, colocándolos en una caja especialmente designada
en el vestíbulo. Si usted desea cocinar o servir la comida,

When we think about parish property and the church,
we think “sacred space” and sometimes let our guard
down. However, some people do not think “sacred
space” but rather “opportune space”. Unfortunately, one
of those persons was around last weekend and during
Mass broke into a parishioner’s car and stole some valuables.
We’d like to remind everyone to protect your valuables by
locking them in the trunk of the car or being sure they are not
visible from any window of the car. In addition, if you bring
valuables into Mass, do not leave them in the pew when you go
to communion as purses have been taken from the pews also.
Cuando pensamos en la propiedad parroquial y la iglesia, pensamos que es un “espacio sagrado” y a veces
bajamos la guardia. Sin embargo, algunas personas no
piensan que es “espacio sagrado” sino que es “espacio
para oportunidades”. Desafortunadamente, una de
esas personas vino el pasado fin de semana durante la
Misa entró al auto de un parroquiano y robó algunos valores.
Quisiéramos recordar a todos que protejan sus cosas de
valor encerrándolas en la cajuela del auto, o asegurándose
que no estén visibles de ninguna ventana del auto. Además,
si traen cosas de valor a la Misa, no las dejen en la banca
cuando vayan a comulgar, porque ya se las han llevado de
las bancas también.
Marian Shrine Plaza construction to begin
Se empezará la Construcción
de la Plaza del Santuario Mariano
Soon, we will begin construction of
our Marian Shrine Plaza. Most of the
major items have been sponsored
providing us with sufficient funds to
construct most of the plaza. Our
hope is that with the construction
underway, other parishioners will
choose to have a memorial on the plaza generating the necessary funds to complete the entire plaza (see the colored design
in the vestibule).
Still available are 3 sections of the back wall at $2,000 each,
several flower bed seats at $1,000 each, as well as numerous
pavers on the floor of the plaza (8x8 square pavers to be
placed on the main pathway to the shrine at $250; 8x8 square
pavers to be placed at the foot of the flower bed seating area
at $200 each; and 4x8 rectangular pavers to be placed
throughout the plaza at $100). All of these items will have the
name in whose honor/memory the item has been donated
etched into them. To sponsor an item, contact Mary Ann
Gieglow at our Parish Office.

Cuatro Etapas de Matrimonio
Los sociólogos han identificado 4 etapas del matrimonio. Ellos
son: (1) Romance, (2) La Desilusión, (3) La Miseria, y (4) Despertar. Muchos matrimonios pasan por las primeros 3 etapas.
Los matrimonios que terminan en divorcio nunca llegan a la 4
ª etapa del despertar. No se den por vencidos sin aprender
acerca de la 4 ª etapa de volver a Despertar. Si su matrimonio

del Aniversario del Sacramento Matrimonial, la tarde del
domingo 29 de septiembre del 2013 a las 2:30 PM en la
Catedral de San Agustín. Si ustedes están celebrando su
1°, 10°, 25°, 50° o 60+ Aniversario Matrimonial
en 2013 y les gustaría asistir, por favor llamen a María

necesitará sus nombres, domicilio, número de teléfono y afiliación parroquial, así como el aniversario que festejarán.
