Cada año millones de aves migran desde las zonas
templadas en los hemisferios norte y sur del planeta
hacia los trópicos. En Paraguay alrededor de 120
especies de aves provenientes de distintos puntos del
continente americano encuentran su refugio en una
gran variedad de ambientes naturales o artificiales que
abarcan pastizales, esteros, lagunas, bosques e incluso
cultivos de arroz, para descansar, alimentarse y
reproducirse. Como estas aves dependen de los
hábitats
tropicales,
son
extraordinariamente
vulnerables a los masivos cambios ambientales que
ocurren a lo largo de sus vías de migración y estadía.
Each year thousands of birds migrate from the
templates zones of the north and south hemisphere
towards the tropics, which provides a wonderful
spectacle. In Paraguay we host about 120 species of
migratory birds every year from different parts of the
Americas. Here, they find refuge in a great variety of
natural ecosystems or man-made such as grasslands,
ponds, forests, and even rice crops to rest, feed and
reproduce. Because those birds depend of tropical
habitats, are extremely vulnerable to massive
environmental changes that occur along their
migration routes and stay.
Asunción, capital del Paraguay, es uno de los sitios más
importantes para observar especies de aves
migratorias. Por ello, la bahía de Asunción ha sido
reconocida por WHSRN como sitio clave para la
conservación de aves playeras migratorias que
recorren largas distancias, fue declarada área
protegida por el gobierno Paraguayo y sitio IBA por
BirLife International, actualmente está siendo
analizada por la comisión RAMSAR. Lamentablemente,
la bahía se enfrenta a grandes cambios ambientales
que puedan alterar severamente la calidad del hábitat
y la supervivencia de las aves a lo largo de su ruta
migratoria, con ello se afecta a la red para las aves
migratorias.
The capital of Paraguay, Asuncion is one of the main
places to see migratory species and thus, the Asuncion
Bay has been recognized as a key place for the
conservation of long-distance migratory Shorebirds by
WHSRN, was declared a protected area by the
Paraguayan government, and IBA under Birdlife
International and is under consideration by the
RAMSAR committee. Sadly, the bay currently faces
major environmental changes, which might severely
alter habitat suitability, and the bird´s survival along
their migration route hence, affecting the network for
the migratory birds.
Por esta razón, Guyra Paraguay se encuentra
trabajando activamente en proyectos de conservación
y campañas educativas con el fin de crear conciencia
sobre la importancia de la conservación de los sitios
apropiados para las aves, en particular las especies
migratorias. Por ello se une con gusto la celebración
del Día Mundial de las Aves Migratorias preparando
actividades como observación de aves con niños,
conversaciones informales y comunicados de prensa,
de modo que las águilas, halcones, lavanderas,
atrapamoscas, aves costeras, y la gente coexista
armoniosamente y con ello se pueda crear una
verdadera red para las Aves.
Guyra Paraguay se suma a la Celebración del Día
Mundial de las Aves Migratorias también con la
transmisión de valores para una sociedad más
sensibilizada y activa en post de la conservación de
miles aguiluchos, halcones, playeritos, gaviotas,
atajacaminos, golondrinas, chochies y atrapamoscas,
con quienes coexistimos en este único planeta desde el
inicio de los tiempos. Bueno, en realidad ellos llegaron
antes.
For this reason, Guyra Paraguay is actively working in
both conservation projects and educational campaigns
in order to raise awareness on the importance of of the
conservation of sites appropriate for birds, particularly
migratory species. Guyra Paraguay gladly joins the
Celebration of World Migratory Bird and is preparing a
series of activities including bird-watching with kids,
informal talks and press releases; so that eagles,
hawks, sandpipers, flycatchers, shorebirds, and people
can coexist harmoniously and we can create a true
Networking for Birds.

Migratory Bird also with the transmission of values to a
more aware and active society in conservation of
thousands eagles, hawks, falcons, sandpipers, gulls,
nightjar, swallows, cuckoos and flycatchers, with whom
we coexist in this unique planet since the beginning of
time. Well, really they came before.
