On May 1st, the National Museum of the American Latino
Commission (NMALC) hosted
the third in a series of national
public outreach forums at the
Texas State Capitol.
El 1o de mayo, la Comisión del
Museo Nacional del Americano-Latino (NMALC por sus siglas en inglés),
llevó a cabo el tercero de una serie
de foros públicos en el Capitolio
Estatal de Texas.
Hosted in Austin, Texas Secretary of State Esperanza “Hope” Andrade gave the Commission
a warm welcome at a private reception held
on Friday, April 30th. The event had a dynamic
program including remarks from United States
Congressmen Lloyd Doggett and John Carter.

de Estado Esperanza “Hope” Andrade dio la bienvenida a la Comisión con una recepción privada el

On the following day, the Forum kicked off with
a performance by the Rockdale Ballet Folkorico
group. Shortly after, the Commission presented
their task of creating a National Museum of the
American Latino and received input from the
public.

The NMALC is a 23-member body appointed by
President Bush, President Obama and bi-partisan Congressional leaders tasked to provide a
report on the creation of a potential National
Museum of the American Latino. Over the next
several months, the Commission will continue
to gather input from the public and will present
a feasibility report to Congress in September
2010.
NMALC está formada por 23 miembros seleccionados por el Presidente Bush, Presidente Obama y
líderes bi partisanos del Congreso, quienes fueron

Univision KAKW’s #1 Newscast Station in Austin

KAKW Univision 62, the leading Spanish-language TV station serving
the Austin market, finished the February sweep period as the #1 newscast station, regardless of language, English or Spanish, according to
the Nielsen Station Index. The station also delivered the market’s highest viewership during its popular network news program, “Noticias 62”
(News 62).
KAKW Univisión 62, la estación televisiva en español de mayor audiencia que
ofrece servicios al mercado de Austin, barrió en la programación de febrero

¡ahora sí!, Austin’s weekly Spanish-language publication, was named
the recipient of six National Association of Hispanic Publications José
Martí awards and three awards from the Texas Chapter of the Associated Press Managing Editors. The NAHP awards were announced at
the group’s 25th annual convention held March 10 through March 14
in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Texas APME awards were given out
at its annual conference held March 26 through March 28 in College
Station, Texas.
¡ahora sí!, el semanario hispano de Austin, recibió seis (6) premios por su labor
periodística de parte de National Association of Hispanic Publications José
Martí (NAHP) y tres (3) premios del capítulo estatal Texas Chapter of the Associated Press Managing Editors (APME). Los premios de la NAHP se dieron
a conocer en su 25º Convención realizada del 10 al 14 de marzo en Albuquerque, New Mexico. Los premios Texas APME fueron entregados en su
conferencia anual que se dio cita del 25-28 de marzo en College Station, Texas.
¡ahora sí! reporter Tania Lara received two first place, gold awards from
the NAHP. The first was in the Outstanding Education Article category
for her story titled, “De aqui y de alla: Pizcando y estuandiando” and
the second in the Outstanding Community Service/Health Article category for her story titled, “Cuando se acerca el final.” The Texas AMPE
also awarded Lara two first place awards in the News category and
Features category for Spanish-language newspapers.

Lifestyle Section category. SantaCruz is a graduate of the GAHCC Hispanic Austin Leadership program.

gala. Judges singled out 360 Press Solutions for five Best of Category winners and one Award of Excellence.
“This young company made a big impression on our judges,” said Joe Polanco, president of PIA MidAmerica. “They have an exceptional production
staff of experienced pressmen matched with a state of the art printing facility and they think ‘out of the box’ when it comes to helping their customers produce something truly unique.”

After 22 years of practice, Dr. Mark Walker recently moved from the
New Orleans area to the Austin area. Dr. Walker ran into a little storm
named Katrina, which diminished three offices down to one, and then
to none. Looking around the country, he saw that the unemployment
rate was only 8% here in Texas. When Dr. Walker arrived in Austin he
saw a number of chiropractic offices and realized he needed to think
outside the box, hence, the Mobile Chiropractor.

Greater TEXAS Federal Credit Union will be holding a Meet & Greet with
two players from the Austin Aztex, Austin’s Professional Soccer Team.
Join in on the fun on Friday, June 11th from 11:00
a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the GTFCU Airport Branch located at
1180 Airport Blvd.
Greater TEXAS Federal Credit Union presentará el evento Meet & Greet donde
podrás conocer y saludar a dos jugadores del Austin Aztex, el equipo de fútbol
profesional de Austin. Acompáñenos el viernes, 11 de junio de las
11:00 a.m. hasta las 2:00 p.m. en el GTFCU Airport Branch ubicado
en 1180 Airport Blvd.
Los jugadores de Austin Aztex estarán presentes para firmar autógrafos, responder preguntas y tomarse fotos con todos los que
asistan al evento, en el cual se ofrecerán refrigerios ligeros. GTFCU
también rifará tres paquetes de boletos para 4 personas para que
puedan presenciar uno de los juegos de Austin Aztex en House

The Austin Aztex players will be onsite to sign autographs, answer questions and take pictures with all
who attend and light refreshments will be provided.
GTFCU will also be giving away three 4-packs of tickets to see an Austin Aztex game at House Park in Austin. A 4-pack of tickets will be drawn every hour, at
12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Attendees need
not be present after entry to win.
The Austin Aztex mission is to help grow the beautiful game of soccer in the greater Austin area through the creation of
an inspiring professional soccer club that aims to compete and entertain, while actively encouraging cooperation with others and giving
back to our community. The success of the team will be built through
grassroots work in the community, local soccer organizations, partnerships with business and media, charity work and effective marketing.
Through the 2010 season, the team will play 30 games in the USSF Division 2 Pro League.
Come join the festivities and get ready for an exciting soccer filled summer!
