MUSEU DE CERA
BARCELONA
When was
it founded?
5
In 1973, the Spanish designer Enrique Alarcón
opened the Museu de Cera de Barcelona (Wax Museum of Barcelona) on Passatge de la Banca street,
near the monument of Columbus, in the building
that previously occupied Crédito y Docks bank.
20 years later, in April 1993, at the height of
tourism in Olympic Barcelona, opened in front of
the museum another spot. A magical bar that soon
achieved international recognition, el Bosc de les
Fades (the Forest of Fairies).
Passatge del Temps (Passage of time), a shop with
odd and original gadgets, completed our area in
2010.

The Museu is on the unique octagonal square in
whole Barcelona. It has two accesses, one in La
Rambla and the other one in Josep Anselm Clavé
street. Come to discover it and breathe its peaceful air.
And this particular building of the picture, the old
headquarters of Barcelona Bank and of the Crédito
y Docks subsidiary, now is our Museu de Cera. It
was built in 1874, conceived by Elies Rogent. It
has a neoclassic style and it was assigned by El
Comercio, a general credit company.

Spaces
The circuit of the museum’s tour takes about an
hour, and it starts in the staircase and it ends at the
most mysterious area of the museum.
The set design was designed by the founder of the
museum, Enrique Alarcón, a professional set designer. The museum consists of materials like silk,
glass, wood, marble or steel.
Many rooms retain their original decoration and
others have been transformed in a spectacular way,
like the prehistoric cave or the gothic room.
Next pages list the different areas of the museum,
in order of appearance in the circuit.

Armored vault
This is the real and original vault of the old bank of the
building. It preserves the strongboxes, the tables and the
dressers. It has become acclimatized to a robbery. For
doing this we had to make a hole in the wall.

The set design is thought as a fanciful spot, as its

of stools-goats.
The feeling appears with the unexpected moments.
A place where mix the art, culture, gastronomy and
