Following abortion, Gumersindo Sabina † many suffer lifelong consequences, such as depression, substance abuse, and 1:30 pm Enrique Garcia † suicidal thoughts. The victims of abortion include not only the mother and the Jesucristo conceder unborn child whose life is ended in the womb, but also men who have mistakenly viewed an abortion as a legitimate “choice”. In 28 studies of men’s nuestras oraciones reactions to abortion*, feelings experienced were similar to women’s – grief, Virgen Maria, gracias por su guilt, and chronic post-traumatic stress. Our parishes remain ready to assist proteccion these women and men in a process of healing and peace. 5:00 pm Roland Smejkal † Thanksgiving to St. Jude Also disturbing is the current trend of using abortion for sex selection – an unborn child, usually female, is deemed expendable. Santo Anima de Purgatorio Nevertheless, we do recognize signs of hope. Since 2006, abortions in Florida have decreased by 20% due to action on many fronts: laws requiring an ultrasound prior to an abortion; the prayers of people outside abortion clinics and MONDAY, January 21st, 2013 the growing numbers of pregnancy centers offering counseling and assistance Memorial of St. Agnes to pregnant women, rescuing them from a life of regret. Since we are in the year of Luke’s gospel, we would expect the gospel reading today to be from the gospel of Luke, but the church has a bit of a surprise for us. For the Second Sunday of the Year, the gospel is always taken from John. This year we are blessed with the story of Jesus’ first miracle at the Wedding Feast at Cana. This gospel provides a significant source for three important teachings in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). Paragraph 1335 of the CCC makes the point that there is a strong connection between the multiplication of the loaves and the changing of water into wine. Both of these events speak of God’s Eucharistic abundance – everyone is fed with the bread that is blessed, broken, and shared, and the best wine is served in abundance. This is the “new wine that has become the Blood of Christ.” Paragraph 1613 of the CCC reminds us that by Jesus’ very presence at this wedding, the church “sees in it the confirmation of the goodness of marriage and the proclamation that thenceforth marriage will be an efficacious sign of Christ’s presence.” This speaks of the sacramental nature of marriage itself. Lastly, paragraph 2618 of the CCC teaches that this story “reveals to us how Mary prays and intercedes in faith.” This little snippet only begins to probe the deeper meaning of this wonderful event at Cana – but that is all we can do in this limited space. Go to the catechism and look deeper, there is more to find. “Respect Life Holy Hour” & “October Baby Everyone is invited to come and unite with the youth of Our Lady of Lourdes to pray for Respect Life from conception until natural death; to speak for those that cannot speak for themselves!
