El reloj de la tortuga (Kame) y la flor de loto

«La grulla vive cien años, y la tortuga, diez mil.»
Según la simbología tradicional japonesa, la tortuga
representa la longevidad. Su manera de moverse es
un símbolo de la paciencia y la autoridad, y el dibujo
y la forma octogonal de su caparazón son señal de
buena suerte. En este reloj, la tortuga se asocia a la
flor de loto en honor a la pureza.
Como manda la tradición del maki-e, para realzar
el caparazón del animal se ha aplicado la técnica
momidasi, puliendo la superficie con piedras de
aceite a fin de que la luz se refleje en el dibujo y
destaque su precisión geométrica. La incrustación

Turtle (Kame) and Lotus Watch
“A crane lives a hundred years, a turtle lives ten
thousand years.”
In the imaginary realm, for Japanese, the turtle embodies
longevity. The way it moves rightly symbolises patience
and authority, and the pattern on its shell is also a sign of
good luck, as is the octagonal shape of its carapace. Here
associated with the lotus flower, it celebrates purity.
In the purest maki-e tradition, the animal’s shell is brought
out by a light momidasi polishing done using oil stones, in
such a way that the light reflects on its patterns, setting
off their geometric precision. Its eye is incrusted with

Estimados Amigos / Dear Friends,
En esta edición tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar dos magníficas
obras del arquitecto francés Paul Andreu, que están dedicadas a
la cultura y las artes en la región del llamado dragón dormido en
Asia, donde el Centro Nacional de las Artes Escénicas de China
aterriza en medio de Pekín para romper con todos los estilos
que lo rodean, simulando la forma de medio huevo en posición
horizontal, construido de titanio y cristal, flotando sobre agua
donde se completa su figura perfecta con el reflejo acuoso, una
propuesta totalmente futurista. La entrada principal es por un
pasillo que pasa por debajo del lago. ¡¡Impresionante!!
Posteriormente en el Centro de las Artes Orientales de Shanghai,
encontramos una arquitectura sumamente innovadora con un
diseño único que va cambiando de forma mientras caminas a
su alrededor, las cinco salas se asemejan a una mariposa vista
desde arriba, en su interior las paredes utilizan como material
principal esmalte de cerámica que al verlas a simple vista
parecen cientos de pequeñas piedras colgadas de techo a piso,
en cada sala se observa un color diferente. Los pisos son de
granito oscuro, las paredes de cristal… es una obra espectacular
que no se deben perder en su próxima visita a China.
Igualmente en esta edición les presentamos a una gran firma
de arquitectos mexicanos fundada por Michel Rojkind, la cual
se está convirtiendo en un ícono y una representación de las
tendencias nacionales.
Y por supuesto también queremos invitarlos a conocer, en
la Riviera Nayarit en Nuevo Vallarta, un gran proyecto de
arquitectura contemporánea mexicana, LUMA te ofrece lujo,
calidad y exclusividad.

In this edition we were able to visit two magnificent buildings by
the French architect Paul Andreu, both dedicated to enhancing
the cultural and artistic life in the Asian region known as the
“sleeping dragon”, where the National Center for Performing
Arts of China lands in the center of Beijing to break with the
ancient style that surrounds it, simulating half an egg built
in titanium and glass, floating upon waters that reflect the
perfection of its shape… a totally futuristic proposal. The main
entrance is through an underwater passage under the lake. Its
impressive!!
Later on, we came upon a totally innovative architectural design:
the Center of Oriental Art in Shangai that changes its shape
while you walk around it. The five halls look like a butterfly from
above and, inside the walls use a ceramic enamel that gives the
impression of hundreds of little stones hanging from the ceiling
in different colors for each hall. Dark granite paves the floor, it
has enormous glass walls… it’s a spectacular building that you
should not miss on your next journey to China.
In this edition we also present a great Mexican firm founded by
Michel Rojkind, who is becoming an icon representing the new
national tendencies in architecture.

Gernot Reither está utilizando diseño digital y técnicas de
manufactura para reintroducir al plástico como material de
construcción para estructuras de peso ligero y bajo costo. El
proyecto está cambiando nuestro concepto del plástico como
un problema medioambiental y convirtiéndolo en un material
verde, proporcionando una estética innovadora para la
arquitectura medioambientalmente amigable.
Gernot Riether is using digital design and fabrication techniques
to reintroduce plastic as a building material for light-weight and
inexpensive structures. The project is changing our perception
of plastic from an environmentally problematic to a “green”
material, providing a new aesthetic for environmentally friendly
architecture.

El proyecto fue seleccionado por la AIA, “American Institute of
Architects” en un evento anual que pedía una intervención que
diera vida a la ciudad histórica de Nueva Orleans. El proyecto
de Gernot Riether sugiere una serie de espacios para eventos
situados dentro de los patios y pabellones de la ciudad. Por
la noche estos pabellones se transformarían en lugares para
eventos, revirtiendo el material de la ciudad: lo que eran
espacios privados durante el día, por la noche se convierten en
espacios públicos de música entre otros eventos.
El material está hecho de PET de glycol modificado (PETG). Este
producto se puede conseguir de reciclar plásticos, o si se desea
de caña de azúcar: una planta integral de la cultura de Luisiana
durante los últimos 200 años.
El pabellón está construido de 320 células triangulares, con los
contornos doblados, para crear un sistema geodésico complejo.
La superficie dentro de la “celda” se adapta a las diferentes
necesidades como asientos, soportes luminarias, macetas para
plantas con colectores de agua pluvial. La compleja geometría
permite combinar estructura con recubrimiento en un solo
sistema.

Between the exposed beams of the skeleton of the building

“Una buena escultura es aquella que te haga sentir,

Wrought iron that curls through space as though it weren’t even from Earth… That is how one could perceive this great Mexican
artist. Iron is an earthly material that David manages to work very well, combining textures, materials, shapes and colors,
always with an honest nakedness, obtaining extremely elegant pieces that caress simplicity (though they are quite complex).
Shapes that seem not to even exist, which change form depending on the angle they´re observed from… rolling, tangling, and
coiling around each other like the fusion of two different worlds. In fact, this mystical approach comes up in an interview with
