Además, recientemente en Pullmantur hemos estrenado nuestro nuevo itinerario,
‘Fiordos del Norte’, que recorre uno de los enclaves naturales más espectaculares de
Europa. Nuestro buque Empress ha navegado por primera vez entre fiordos, y tras su
exitosa acogida, el año que viene sin duda volveremos a Noruega. También merece
mención especial nuestra otra propuesta en el Mar Báltico, ‘Capitales Bálticas’, que por
segundo año consecutivo ha recibido el premio al “Mejor Itinerario en Norte de Europa
2011”.
Además, estamos muy orgullosos de anunciar que el año que viene incorporaremos
un nuevo barco a nuestra flota, el Monarch. Con sus magníficas instalaciones, este nuevo
barco estará a su disposición próximamente para ofrecerles el mejor servicio y calidad.

Welcome aboard! Whether this is your first trip with Pullmantur, or you have travelled
with us in the past, first of all I want to thank you for your confidence, and next to invite
you to take the fullest advantage of the services offered on our fleet of ships and aircraft.
This cruise season has given us many satisfactions, and one of the biggest was
Spain’s winning of its second consecutive UEFA European Football Championship on
July 1st. The match was enjoyed in real time on giant screens on deck by our passengers
at sea. Our heartiest congratulations to the magnificent Spanish team!
Also, recently Pullmantur launched our new “Fjords of the North” cruise to some
of Europe’s most spectacular sights. Our cruise liner Empress made her first visit to
the fiords, and it was such a success that we plan to return to Norway again this year.
Another great success is our “Baltic Capitals” cruise, honoured in 2012 for the second
year running as the “Best Itinerary in Northern Europe”.
In addition, we are vey proud tell you that next year we will be welcoming a new ship,
the Monarch, to our fleet. This sumptuous cruise liner will offer Pullmantur customers

esperanza de vida que hará que sea necesario “poner
vida a los años y no solo años a la vida”
Te caracterizas por ser una persona con una vitalidad
desbordante ¿cuál es la fuente de toda esa energía?
Gracias por el halago pero no creo que sea así. Hay
días que tengo una enorme vitalidad y otros no tanto,
como todo el mundo. Pero quizá el secreto está en
que procuro hacer lo que me gusta y con lo que me
siento bien. Las fuentes de energía de todos nosotros
son las mismas: cuidar el cuerpo, que es el que nos
da energía a través del oxígeno que transforman
nuestras mitocondrias. En mi caso además, tener un
equilibrio en mi vida afectiva, (en la vida todo empieza
con una emoción y termina con una emoción), y
desarrollar un trabajo apasionante.

tipos de conducta: buscar culpables de lo que ocurre
en nuestra vida e instalarse en el pasado que no se
puede cambiar, o bien preguntarnos qué podemos
hacer y llevar las riendas de nuestra propia existencia
viviendo el presente, que podemos inventar a cada
momento. Esta es la diferencia, en mi opinión, entre
gente positiva y negativa. Si se observa a la gente
feliz, positiva, alegre; nos damos cuenta de que rin
den laboralmente entre un 65 y un 100% más, viven
Can you tell us in a few words just who you are?
A normal person who has studied –among other
things—how we can prepare ourselves for the new
scenario we will face in the future, a major increase
on our lifespan which makes it necessary to “add life
to our years” and not only “years to our life”.
You characterize yourself as a person with an overflowing vitality, what is the source of all that energy?
Thanks for the compliment, but I do not think that
way. There are days that I have a enormous vitality
and others less so, like everyone else. But perhaps
the secret is that I try to do what I like and what I feel
good. The energy sources of all of us are the same:
take care of ourselves, which is what gives us energy
through the oxygen that transform our mitochondria.
In my case, I also have a balance in my emotional
life (in life all begins and ends with an emotion), and
also, develop exciting work.
When did you realise that as an optimist you live
better?
Like always delivers blows that we can’t always
respond to, generally emotional ones. When this
happens we need to re-order our priorities.
Today, many of us will live for nearly a hundred years,
so it’s inevitable that we will experience the loss of
loved ones, and have conflicts and disagreements
with the people we care about the most, etc.
In such situations there are two way of behaving. We
can blame someone else for what happens in our
lives, and try to inhabit an unchanging past, or we
can ask ourselves what we can do, take the reins
of our own lives, and we live in the present, which is
something that we invent in every passing moment.
That, in my opinion, is the difference between negati
ve and positive people. If you observe happy, positive
people, you’ll notice that they produce from 65% to
100% more, they live longer, they are more popular,
and they transmit energy to others. What I do when
there’s an argument, for instance, is to ask myself
whether “being right” is all that important.

más, son más queridos, transmiten energía... Ante una
discusión por ejemplo, siempre me hago la siguiente
reflexión: tener razón es lo realmente importante?
Una persona positiva, ¿nace o se hace?
Se hace sin duda. Insisto en que es más importante
el aprendizaje que la genética, pero este aprendizaje
se produce en edades muy tempranas, por lo que en
la edad madura, será más difícil cambiarlo. De todos
modos no podemos negar que hay una parte de
“información genética” que heredamos de las 4 a 8
últimas generaciones y que se lleva en los “genes”.
¿Por qué crees que en la situación actual, es más
importante que nunca ser optimista y por tanto, feliz?
La razón es muy simple. Nunca antes ninguna especie
ha tenido que ser feliz, solo ha tenido que sobrevivir. Y
para sobrevivir es más importante acordarte de lo malo
que de lo bueno, (trataremos bien a una persona 100
veces y se acordará del único error que cometamos).
Hoy, con el incremento de esperanza de vida, el obje
tivo es vivir, no sobrevivir. Un gran médico decía sobre
la felicidad, que habría que tener una mala memoria y
una buena salud. De ahí que generalmente los niños
sean felices, porque aún no tienen experiencias y
además son curiosos.
¿Es más difícil ser feliz en tiempos de crisis?
Parece que sí, aunque si nos fijamos en nuestro día a
día, hay personas felices e infelices llevando a cabo las
mismas cosas, realizando el mismo trabajo, viviendo
circunstancias similares... Esta es una reflexión que

in very early ages, for what in the age it matures, it
will be more difficult to change it. Anyway we cannot
deny that there is a part of “genetic information” that
we inherited from the last 4 to 8 generations and that
is carried on the “genes”.
Why do you think that the current situation
is more important then ever to be optimistic
and therefore, happy?
The reason is very simple. Never before any species
had to be happy ever, just had to survive. And to sur
vive is more important to remember the sad things
instead the good things, (we will treat well a person
100 times and he will remember of the only error that
we commit). Today, with increasing life expectancy,
the goal is to live, not to survive. A great doctor said
about happiness, that it would be necessary to have
a bad memory and a good health. That’s why, chil
dren are generally happy, because they still have no
experience and also they are curious.
It is harder to be happy at a time of crisis?
It would seem so, but if we look around us we see both
happy and unhappy people in identical circumstan
ces, doing the same things, holding the same jobs. I
recommend this sort of reflection, because it shows
us that we are responsible for our own happiness.

depende solo de ti. No podemos tampoco decir que la
crisis sea la responsable de nuestra propia infelicidad.
¿Qué más cosas consigue un optimista en la
vida frente a un pesimista?
Probablemente una vida mejor interpretada y mejor
vivida. La vida tiene el mismo final para todos, que
nos morimos. Por tanto, el planteamiento es “no te
preocupes demasiado por la vida que nadie sale
vivo de ella”.
¿Por qué la gente se encuentra siempre más
contenta de vacaciones?
No creo que sea exactamente así. Hay personas
que anticipan mentalmente sus vacaciones y las
disfrutan ya desde la preparación. Otras en cambio,
que no disfrutan casi de nada. Somos felices cuando
estamos en los proyectos, mientras luchamos por
algo, no solo cuando lo conseguimos. A modo de
ejemplo, este verano que viajo junto a mi familia con
vosotros, mis hijos ya est án disfrutando de todo lo
que tienen previsto hacer y aunque falten aún unas
semanas, ya se ven navegando.
¿Qué es lo que más valoras a la hora de elegir tus
vacaciones?
Estar con mi familia en un lugar seguro con activida
des diversas para compartir, de forma que estemos
constantemente estimulándonos y comunicándonos,
abriendo nuestra forma de entender la vida y el mundo.
¿Te apuntarías a un crucero?
Ya lo he hecho en más de una ocasión y este verano
viajo con vosotros. He tenido la suerte de conoceros
y en vuestros barcos me siento “en casa”.
Después de conocernos, ¿qué opinas de
Pullmantur?
Lo que más valoro es la alegría de vuestro maravilloso
personal. Tenéis un fan incondicional. ¡Seguid así!.
We might not being able to stop someone from in

the answer is that we can’t blame our unhappiness
on the crisis. What the most important thing for you
when planning a vacation. I want to be with my family
in a safe place with activities we can share, so we
are constantly stimulating and communicating with
each other, opening up our ways of understanding
life and the world.
What more things does an optimist obtain in
the life opposite to a pessimist? Probably a better life and better interpreted lived. Life
has the same end for all, that we die. Therefore,
the Approach is “don’t worry too much about the life
that nobody get alive from it”
Why are the people always more satisfied
on holidays? I do not believe that it is exactly like that. There are
persons who anticipate mentally its holidays and they
already enjoy them from the preparation. Others on
the other hand, thatthey do not enjoy almost anything.
We are happy when we are in the projects, while we
fight for something, not only when we obtain it. As
an example, this summer that I travel along with my
family with Pullmantur, my children already are enjo
ying everything that they intend to do, and although
still missing some weeks, are already sailing.
What the most important thing for you when
planning a vacation?
I want to be with my family in a safe place with acti
vities we can share, so we are constantly stimulating
and communicating with each other, opening up our
ways of understanding life and the world.
Would you go on a cruise?
I’ve been on several, and this summer I’m travelling
with Pullmantur. I had the good fortune to discover
you and I feel very much at home on your ships.
