by Dr. Richard Peterson
Reception & Talk/Slideshow:
“Hunting the Northern Lights,”
HOSTED BY
THE
NAPA VALLEY WINE LIBRARY ASSOCIATION
Dr. Richard Peterson will
discuss his recently published
book The Winemaker. With
candor and fascinating detail,
Peterson chronicles how an
industry completely decimated by Prohibition was to
transform itself with incredible speed into a worldfamous wine region. Come
with your questions for the
author, who has worked alongside many of the
most colorful and legendary names that shaped
the California wine industry. The book will be
available for purchase and signing. Wine and
refreshments will be provided by the Napa
Valley Wine Library Association.
Dr. Richard Peterson is a former president of
The American Society for Enology & Viticulture,
director of the Wine Institute, vice-president of
the Napa Valley Wine Library Association, and
has worked at wineries such as E. & J. Gallo,

PHOTOGRAPHS
BY
RUTH BERGGREN
The Northern Lights, or
Aurora Borealis, is a
celestial light show that
is out of this world.
Particles from the sun set
the night sky aglow in a
mysterious, eerie green light, sometimes fringed
with pinks and purples and whites. The aurora
can be delicate or brilliant; static or frenzied;
hidden behind clouds; or so pale that only the
camera can see it.
Following the reception, Napa photographer
Ruth Berggren will present a slideshow and
share her infatuation with this phenomenon. She
will describe her experiences above the Arctic
Circle. She has spent many cold winter nights
hunting the elusive aurora, attempting to
capture it in photographs with the landscape of
northern Scandinavia.
