As he sends forth disciples today, Jesus again forbids retaliation against non-receptive listeners (10:10–11), showing us how to be Jesus’ “missionaries of mercy” this Jubilee Year of Mercy. Like the first disciples, we are sent not to proclaim ourselves but Jesus. As Jesus sent them in pairs, so are we also to work together in the community of the Church. We often describe the Church as Isaiah describes Jerusalem in today’s first reading, our comforting, nurturing Mother (Isaiah 66:13). So, going forth gently, like lambs among wolves (Luke 10:3), we share comforting peace, nurturing food and drink (Luke’s image for Eucharist), and Jesus’ healing promise of unfailing, unconditional mercy (10:5, 7, 9). Thus Jesus bids us proclaim the kingdom of God by showing what God’s kingdom looks like in action. “Go, preach the Gospel,” Pope Francis’ saintly namesake of Assisi is said to have instructed his first friars, “and when necessary, use words!” Next Sunday’s Readings First Reading — Heed the voice of the L . It is something very near to you, already in your hearts; you only need to carry it out (Deuteronomy 30:10-14). Psalm — Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live (Psalm 69) or Psalm 19. Second Reading — All things were created through and for Christ Jesus (Colossians 1:15-20). Gospel — To be a neighbor, show love by treating others with mercy, as did the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). San Francisco de Asís, de quien el Papa Francisco tomó su nombre, solía decirle a sus primeros frailes “vayan y prediquen el Evangelio y si es necesario utilicen palabras Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 3, 2016 Goal $360,000.00 Pledged $592,303.00 Total Parish Share $340,000.00 Total of All Payments to Date $143,242.00 As remember, last year we participated in the Generations of Faith campaign at our parish. The campaign experienced tremendous success and we raised $592,303.00 in pledges. To date, $143,242.00 has been collected. Remember, over 50% of the funds collected will be returned to the parish! Here at Corpus Christi, we will receive $340,000.00 on our total raised of $592,303.00! I would like to give my genuine and heartfelt thanks to all the families and individuals that helped make the campaign a success. This Capital Campaign will be a success only if we continue to make our payments. Please make your payments to Generations of Faith in the pledge reminders you receive. If you are not receiving your monthly reminders please call the rectory and we will be sure to correct the problem. Again, thank you for all your support. PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Lord of the Harvest, we petition you as you have instructed us to ask for more laborers to serve in the vineyard of your Church. You have told us that the harvest is rich and laborers are few and we experience this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire young men and women to seriously consider vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Help all of us to be effective instruments to encourage and support those whom you are calling to serve and lead the Church of Brooklyn and Queens in the future. Lord, you told the Apostles to put out into the deep. We ask for the grace and courage to respond to your call as we pray and work for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest, Amen. Adult Computer Classes Beginning Wednesday, July 13th, Corpus Christi will be offering free adult computer classes from 7-9 PM in the Rectory basement.
