EL TEMA DE LA INDUCCIÓN EN BENITO DÍAZ DE GAMARRA Y SUS
CONSECUENCIAS POLÍTICAS

Resumen
Me propongo mostrar aquí, que Díaz de Gamarra representa el momento cumbre en que la
filosofía nueva y asimilada –que él mismo denominó eclecticismo– sirve de puente entre la
especulación y las bases de la revolución. Intento demostrar esta propuesta desde tres
frentes fundamentales que enuncio a continuación y cuyo orden será el itinerario de mi
escrito: 1) el vuelco gamarriano de la noción aristotélica de inducción o epagogé por la
noción baconiana moderna de inducción, eje que permite transitar del terreno del ser al
terreno del transformar; 2) un habitus y mentalidad peculiar en Gamarra –un incipiente
laicismo por su vocación secular– que sirve de base para el naturalismo moral laicista del
siglo XIX y 3) una mística del “derecho” que, combinada a su afán cientificista, hereda al
siglo XIX ese páthos libertador que otros como Hidalgo y Costilla llevaron al terreno de la
sociedad civil.

Abstract
In this work I intend to show that Diaz de Gamarra represents the peak in which the new
assimilated philosophy –dubbed by him as ecclecticism– stands as a connection between
theoretical speculation and the bases of revolution. I attempt to argue for this proposal from
three points, whose order will be the order of the paper: (1) the Gamarrian turn of the
Aristotelian notion of induction or epagogé by the Baconian modern notion of induction,
by which is possible to transit from the realm of being to the realm of transformation; (2) a
certain habitus and peculiar mentality in Gamarra –an incipient laicism due to his secular
vocation– that is the base for the moral laicist naturalism of XIX Century; and (3) a mystic
of “the Law” that, combined with his scientificistic drive, gives to the XIX Century that
liberating pathos took by others, like Hidalgo and Costilla, to civil society.
