Upcoming Vocation Awareness Opportunities (Fall 2016) | Próximas Oportunidades de Discernimiento Vocacional (Otoño 2016) Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 8, Women Seeking the Road Less Traveled‐ 6:00pm – 9:00pm‐ A monthly discernment gathering for women ages 18 and older who are discerning a vocation to religious life. Meet in different convents around the archdiocese every second Thursday of the month from September to May. Program includes supper, a brief presentation and time for sharing, followed by prayer. Sisters from several religious orders who live and minister in the Archdiocese will be present. Free event. Las reuniones se llevarán a cabo en el Convento de las Hermanas Carmelitas Misioneras de Santa Teresa (9600 Deer Trail Dr., Houston, TX 77038). Registración, videos, y detalles en www.houstonvocations.com/descubre This is the Spanish version of the Discover and Women Seeking combined, for single men and women ages 18 and older who are discerning a vocation to priesthood and religious life and prefer the session in Spanish. Gatherings are from September through May. Meetings take place at the Missionary Carmelites of St. Theresa. Oct. 2, Jubilee Celebration‐ 4:00pm‐ Corpus Christi Church (9900 Stella Link Rd., Houston, TX 77025). Join the Archdiocesan celebration of priests, Sisters, and Brothers, who have lived 25, 50, 60 or 75 years of the vowed life or ordained ministry. Please join us; no registration is needed. List of jubilarians at www.houstonvocations.com/jubilee‐celebration Oct. 7, Andrew Dinner‐ 7:00pm‐9:30pm‐ All priests are invited to lend their voice to Christ by making a personal invitation to young men from their parishes and ministries ages 14 to 18 who are in High School for an evening of prayer, group sharing, and dinner with His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo and other priests from the Archdiocese. Registration for Priests: Register by fax by submitting the “Andrew Dinner Reply Form” or email. Register online at www.houstonvocations.com/andrew‐dinner Please keep in mind the men you select should be between the ages of 14 and 18 and who currently attend High School. Those under 18 will require a permission slip which you will find enclosed. We have set a limit of 5 participants per parish. Hay oración, adoración eucarística, grupos pequeños, y la oportunidad de compartir una cena con el Cardenal DiNardo y los sacerdotes presentes. Nov. 6‐12 ‐ National Vocation Awareness Week – The Office of Vocations of the Archdiocese of Galveston‐Houston invites all Catholics to raise awareness of vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life, during the National Vocation Awareness Week (NVAW). The NVAW is an annual week‐long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations through prayer and education. A Vocation Coffee Shop will be set up in a different Catholic high school each day during this special week. A group of priests and Sisters will visit with the students in the Coffee Shop to share about the call to priesthood and religious life while enjoying a cup of coffee or hot chocolate together in an informal and relaxed setting. Dec. 16‐18, Men’s Discernment Retreat – For single men ages 18‐35 who are discerning a vocation to the diocesan priesthood. This is an opportunity to set aside some time of silence to listen to the voice of God in your life, listen to inspiring talks and guidance for your discernment process, learn the tools of discernment, sharpen your discerning skills, and have a one‐on‐one visit with a priest and seminarian. Telephone interview required for registration; $30 registration fee, scholarships available; Space limited. Deadline Dec. 12, Retreat begins Friday, Dec. 16 at 5:00pm and ends Sunday, Dec. 18 at 2:00pm; St. Mary Seminary (9845 Memorial Dr.). www.houstonvocations.com/mens‐discernment‐retreat January 7, Carmelite Monastery Visit, 10:00am‐1:00pm ‐ For young adult women ages 18 – 35 who want to know more about contemplative life and religious life. For more information and to register, call 713‐ 652‐8239 or go to www.houstonvocations.com/upper‐room 2016‐2017 Archdiocesan Seminarian Poster and Religious Men and Women in Formation Poster‐ These posters will be distributed by the Serra Club members during the end of September to all parishes, retreat centers, Newman Centers and Catholic schools throughout the Archdiocese. The two posters are updated every year; they display the men and women from local parishes who are currently in formation in religious communities and the men who are studying for diocesan priesthood. This serves as a tool to promote vocations, create awareness and most importantly to pray for these men and women as they follow Christ.
