Christmas Appeal
Goal Reached! Match Made!
A heartfelt thank you to all donors who generously
supported our special Christmas appeal. We are
pleased to report that donations to this appeal totaled
$16,495! This means that we will receive $10,000 in
matching funds thanks to a long-time Cathedral
supporter. These gifts will help fund the many
ministries and programs here at the Cathedral during
the coming year. Thank you for such blessings!
ANOINTING OF CATECHUMENS
January 20, 2013 11:00 a.m.
The anointing with oil symbolizes the need of the
catechumens for God’s help and strength. This anointing
is given so that, nothing will keep them from taking the
steps necessary to profess their faith and continue to hold
onto their trust in God throughout their lives.
The oil used for this rite is the oil blessed by the
Archbishop at the Chrism Mass. It is one of three oil’s
blessed; the Oil of the Catechumens, Oil of the Sick and
Sacred Chrism, a fragrant oil used for anointing at
baptism, confirmation and the ordination of priests and
bishops. This year’s chrism Mass will be celebrated on
Thursday, March 21, 5:30 p.m., all are invited to attend.

What Does it Mean to be a Thinking
Catholic in the Contemporary World?
Starting in Lent, the Archdiocese of San Francisco is
offering a course designed to answer that very question.
This course will bring online presentations from the best
theologians and teachers in the nation to illuminate
Catholic teaching on Christ, the Church, and the
foundation for a hope-filled life in our modern world.
Meeting weekly from 7:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in locations
throughout the Archdiocese, participants will gather to
deepen their knowledge, share their lived faith and
probe the questions that arise when adult Catholics
grapple with the awesome mysteries of God’s salvation.
Registration forms located on the
shelves at the entrance of the
Cathedral and in the parish office.
